Kentucky: A History of the State, Battle, Perrin, & Kniffin, 5th ed., 1887, Jessamine Co. GEORGE W. GOODE. The great-grandparents of George W. Goode were both natives of England, and settled in Virginia late in 1700. The grandparents of George W. Goode--William Goode and his wife, Elizabeth Abbott--were both born in Virginia, the former in Essex County and the latter in Middlesex County. They removed to Woodford County, Ky., in 1809, and engaged in farming, William having previously participated in the Revolutionary war. He died in 1814, and his wife in 1849. They had five children: Biven, George, William, Walter R. and Cordelia (Mrs. William Tutt, of Woodford County, Ky.). Walter R., the father of George W., was born in Virginia and married Amanda Rankin, of Clark County, Ky., who died October 15, 1871. The father died October 1, 1878. They had five children: Mollie, Albert, George W., Ann and John. George W. Goode was born February 18, 1836, was educated at the common schools, and was engaged as clerk for his father, who carried on the business of a general store at Keene, Jessamine County, under the firm name of Goode & Broughton. In 1856 George W. and his brother succeeded to the father's interest. In 1861 he engaged in farming at his present place of residence on the Harrodsburg Pike, five miles from Nicholasville. In addition to the 260 acres he is now engaged in working, he owns 180 acres in Jessamine County, Ky. He was married, November 28, 1860, to Miss Jane F. Lyne, daughter of Thomas and Mary (Connelly) Lyne, natives of Virginia. Eight children were born to this marriage: Van W., Sanford A., Elizabeth S., Minnie F., Corrilla K., Mattie W., George L. and John E.
