Kentucky: A History of the State, Battle, Perrin, & Kniffin, 5th ed., 1887, Jessamine Co. JEFFERSON OXLEY (deceased) was the son of Lawson and Mary (Dills) Oxley, born in Cynthiana, Harrison Co., Ky., July 16, 1842, and died October 11, 1885, at his residence in Nicholasville. He graduated at the Philadelphia College of Pharmacy. He took a deep interest in the progress of pharmacy in the State, and labored with great zeal to induce the Legislature of Kentucky to elevate the standard and efficiency of druggists. On the 12th of June, 1873, he was married to Miss Laura Hemphill, youngest daughter of Andrew and Mildred Hemphill, who are noticed elsewhere. The names of his children are Henry W., Mary H., and Lawson Jefferson. Miss Mary Hemphill, sister of Mrs. Oxley, lives with her.
