Kentucky: A History of the State, Battle, Perrin, & Kniffin, ed. 8-B Lawrence County ARNOLDUS J. GARRED, circuit clerk of his native county of Lawrence, Ky., was born July 24, 1856, and is a son of David W. and Nancy (Dyer) Garred, also native of Lawrence County. His grandfather, David Garred, born 1771, was a native of Virginia, but one of the earliest settlers of Lawrence County, Ky., and grandfather Owen W. Dyer came somewhat later. David W. Garred was born in 1823, and resides eight miles above Louisa on a farm of about thirteen hundred acres. Arnoldus J. remained on this farm until nineteen years of age, when he became deputy clerk under George F. Johnson, county and circuit clerk. In August, 1880, he was elected first circuit clerk by a majority of about 1,500, and was re-elected in 1886. October 12, 1885, he married Miss Jennie L. Vinson, daughter of R.F. Vinson, a lawyer of Louisa. Mr. Garred is a Freemason and a Democrat, and holds an interest in the Chattaroi Hotel.
