"A HISTORY OF THE DAVIESS-McLEAN BAPTIST ASSOCIATION IN KENTUCKY, 1844-1943" by Wendell H. Rone. Probably published in 1944 by Messenger Job Printing Co., Inc., Owensboro, Kentucky, pp. 417-418. Used by permission. [Logan] ELBERT EVAN SPICKARD: E. E. Spickard was born in Caldwell County, Kentucky, on November 9, 1886, and is the son of J. B. and Frances L. Spickard. He attended grade and high school and after entering the ministry spent some time at Bethel College, Russellville, Kentucky, graduating in 1923. He professed faith in Christ at the age of twelve and was baptized into the fellowship of the Walnut Grove Church, Ohio River Association, by Elder E. B. Blackburn. For a number of years after he reached manhood he taught school and also served as a rural mail carrier for the U. S. Government. In the year 1921 he was licensed to preach by the Fredonia Church, Caldwell County. Kentucky, and by this same Church was ordained at the same time with Rev. Y. E. Holland, in October, 1921. Elders J. Carlin Lilly and Rudolph Lane served as the presbytery. He was married to Miss Zola M. Lowry on October 21, 1906. They have one child living and one dead. Their daughter is Mrs. Garland Pirtle [Elsie], who is the mother of two sons. Since entering the ministry our brother has pastored the following Churches: Deer Creek, Crittenden County, 1921-1924; Gracey, Christian County, 1922-1924; Oak Grove, Muhlenberg County, 1930-1934, 1935-1942; Lewisburg-Mt. Pleasant, 1924-1930; Livermore, 1930-1934, Buck Creek, 1933-1934; Beechland, Logan County, 1925, 1933-1941; Elk Lick, Logan County, 1924-1925, 1935 to date; Walnut Grove, Logan County, 1934 to date; Sharon Grove, Todd County, 1939 to date; Green Ridge, Logan County, part of year 1925. He has served as Moderator of the Logan County Association on two different occasions and has preached the annual sermon before the Logan County, Muhlenberg County, and Daviess-McLean Associations. The latter in the year 1933. He has also served on the State Board of Missions on two different occasions. Brother Spickard is one of the best informed ministers ever to labor within the bounds of this Association. He is a good preacher of outstanding ability and has been a blessing to the Churches which he has served. While at Livermore he was the author's pastor, and is one of his best friends. We thank God for E. E. Spickard.
