JOSEPH S. BRONSTON was born March 15, 1854, in Richmond, Ky., and is a son
of Thomas S. and Henrietta A. (Baker) Bronston, to whom four sons and six
daughters were born, Joseph S. being the oldest.  Thomas S. was born in
Fayette and in his early manhood carried on farming, but afterward became a
merchant.  He also served as assistant secretary under Gov. McCreary's
administration, after which he resumed mercantile pursuits till appointed
revenue collector of the Eighth Kentucky District.  Joseph S. Bronston was
reared and received his early training in Richmond; afterward he attended
the Kentucky University and in 1873 entered the circuit clerk's office,
served as deputy for two years, then entered the store with his father till
1876, when he made a trip to the West and in 1877 entered his father's
office at Frankfort.  In October, 1879, he became editor of the Richmond
Herald and held that position till 1883, when he began the study of law and
received his license to practice in March, 1884.  In June of the same year
he was elected police judge of Richmond and served two years.  He has been
very successful in his practice and is making his mark as a lawyer.
November 5, 1884, he was united in marriage to Miss Catherine B. Douglas,
of Cincinnati, Ohio.  She was born near Utica, N.Y., and is a daughter of
Robert L. Douglas, who married a Miss Billings.  Mr. and Mrs. Bronston are
members of the Christian Church.  He is a member of the Masonic fraternity
of Richmond and in politics he is a Democrat.
