A History of Masonry in Madison County, Kentucky 1812-1913, compiled and written by Robert R. Burnam, 1914, p. 95. ROBERT CHRISTOPHER HARRIS COVINGTON was born in Madison County near Waco December 31, 1862. Few men have a greater number of nationalities represented in their ancestry than the subject of this narrative, but the English and Scotch preponderate. Many of his forbears came to America prior to the Revolution and quite a number saw service in the army. Sir Covington's people came to Kentucky largely from Albemarle County, Virginia, with the tide which flowed to Madison just after the close of the Revolution. He traces back to that famous old lady "Mourning Glenn," whose name is found in the lines of so many Madison County folk. Mr. Covington was educated in the common schools of his County and at Georgetown College. Coming to Richmond while a young man he engaged in the mercantile business first as a clerk and then on his own account. Today he is the head of the large establishment, "The R. C. H. Covington Company." His business career has been eminently successful. He is a member of the Baptist Church and is a public spirited citizen. He was made a Mason in Richmond Lodge May, 1888, and raised December following. Elected Master December, 1892. Received the Chapter degrees in 1889. Elected High Priest in 1895. Knighted in Richmond Commandery in 1890. Elected Eminent Commander April, 1897, serving one year. He married Miss Mary Morrow and has an interesting family.
