Kentucky: A History of the State, Battle, Perrin, & Kniffin, 3rd ed., 1886. Metcalfe County. JONATHAN S. LEAMON, son of Jacob and Susanna (Smith) Leamon, was born in Metcalfe County, Ky. He was married, in 1863, to Jane L. Amyx. To them were born Angeline and Sylvanus. Mrs. Jane Leamon was a daughter of Lewis H. Amyx, who was born in Botetourt, County, Va., March 20, 1806. When twelve years of age he removed to Barren, and afterward to Cumberland County, Ky. His father, Matthew Amyx, was also a native of Botetourt County, Va., born about 1779. He was of Irish descent. The name was formerly Emmett, and was changed by a school teacher during the Revolutionary war to Amyx, by which the family is now known. Matthew Amyx was married about 1800 to Jane Fawbush, of Virginia. They had seven children, of whom Lewis H. was the third. He has been twice married; first, April 26, 1836, to Faitha J., daughter of James and Olive (Pryson) Harvey, of Metcalfe County. To them one son, James N., has been born. His second marriage took place February 2, 1842, to Miss Mary B., daughter of Caleb and Sarah (Lewis) Maxey. From this union sprang James L. A. and Sarah E. (deceased). In his early days Mr. Amyx had very poor advantages for procuring an education, but by study has obtained a good elementary education. He is at present the owner of about 400 acres of tillable land; a member of the Methodist Church, and in politics is a Republican.
