Kentucky: A History of the State, Battle, Perrin, & Kniffin, 3rd ed., 1886. Monroe County. ALEXANDER C. MUNCIE was born March 4, 1849, in Bledsoe County, Tenn. When eight years of age he removed with his parents to Monroe County, Ky., where he now resides. His father, John Muncie, was born in 1816, in Virginia. When a small boy he emigrated to Tennessee, and in 1857 to Monroe County, Ky. where he died in 1860. He was a son of Nathaniel Muncie, of Virginia, who as born about 1790, and was of English descent. John Muncie married, in 1842, Mahala, daughter of John Billingsley, of Bledsoe County, Tenn. From this union sprang Elizabeth Jane (deceased), James C., Alexander C., John N., George W., and Mary A. (deceased). Alexander C. had few educational opportunities in youth, but by study he has obtained a good English education, and is a man well versed in the current literature of the day. He started in life first as a school teacher and farmer, and later engaged some time at the dry goods business as clerk in the store of Mr. Kingery, at Sulphur Lick.
