John Pitcock is the second in a family of seven sons, four of whom lived to be grown. He was educated in the common schools. He was thirteen years of age when his father died, and from that time until he attained his twenty-third year he remained on the farm and worked for the support of the family. From 1873 to 1875 he went to school some and tended a crop on the farm during the summer season, after which he learned the blacksmith trade and worked at the business steadily for some time. On the 26th of July, 1877, he was united in marriage with Alice J. Page, daughter of Samuel H. Page, of Monroe County. Of the seven children born to them five are living: Flora, Ettie, John, Ethel and Effie. For several years past Mr. Pitcock has been engaged in the whisky distilling business in connection with farming. He is now the owner of 320 acres of land, which is well improved. On his home farm is a good frame dwelling, barns, and orchard of 1,000 fruit trees. He gives some attention to stock raising. The product of his distillery averages 2,000 gallons of spirits per year. He is a member of the Page & Pitcock, druggists, at Tompkinsville, Monroe Co., Ky., also a member of the firm of Pitcock & Brother, millers, on Peter's Creek, Monroe County. He and wife are members of the Baptist Church. In politics he is a Republican. He gives little attention to politics, but takes a great interest in the cause of education and is a generous and public-spirited citizen. He contributes much of his time and money to the improvement of the country. McKnight Page Pitcock = TN http://www.rootsweb.com/~kygenweb/kybiog/monroe/pitcock.j.txt
