A Sesquicentennial History of the Green River Missionary Baptist Church 1836 - 1986, Written and Compiled by Wendell Holmes Rone, Sr., For the One Hundred and Fiftieth Anniversary of the Founding of the Church, 1987. By permission of author. Ohio County MARVIN NAFUS became the Thirty-Seventh pastor of the Green River Church by recommendation of the Deacons (the Pulpit Committee) and vote of the Church on July 3, 1963, after two others had been eliminated by receiving only small votes. He served the Church through May, 1966, completing nearly three years of service. It was during his pastorate that the Church erected a new house of Worship, in 1965, and ordained some new Deacons. Total value of the Church property doubled from $10,500.00 to $22,500.00, in 1966. This was the beginning of an enlargement and expansion program which continued into the Seventies and Eighties. We have no particulars concerning Brother Nafus and his family. He was present when the Church observed its Sesquicentennial in August, 1986.
