A Sesquicentennial History of the Green River Missionary Baptist Church 1836 - 1986, Written and Compiled by Wendell Holmes Rone, Sr., For the One Hundred and Fiftieth Anniversary of the Founding of the Church, 1987. By permission of author. Ohio County. J. H. TOWE became the Twenty-Second Pastor of the Green River Church, being elected by a unanimous vote on November 7, 1914, as Brother Shields had declined serving another year. He began his work with the Church on January 9, 1915, and continued to serve through December, 1918. However, the Church held no meetings at all in the period November, 1918 through March, 1919 due to the terrible influence "Flu" Epidemic near and after the close of World War One (1914-1918). Brother Towe's address was Bowling Green, Kentucky, while he served the Church. Most of his pastoral ministry was spent among the Churches of the Gasper River and Warren Associatioins in Butler and Warren Counties. Our particulars concerning him are very few.
