Kentucky: A History of the State, Battle, Perrin, & Kniffin, 6th ed., 1887, Oldham Co. MARGARET P. ASHBY, a native of Oldham County, Ky., is a daughter of Washington Ashby, a native of Virginia, but who came to Kentucky when young and settled on a farm in Shelby County, where he spent the greater part of his life, and died in Oldham County at the residence of our subject. He married Jane Aikin, a native of Virginia, and a daughter of Robert and Mary Aikin. Four sons and six daughters blessed their union, of whom our subject is the sixth. Her grandfather, David Ashby, was a native of Virginia, came to Kentucky in an early day, and settled on a farm in Oldham County, where he died. His maternal grandfather, Robert Aikin, died in Oldham County. Our subject was educated in the common schools of Oldham County and at the LaGrange High School, and acquired a good English education.
