JOSEPH WILLIAM SWINEY was born in Oldham County, Ky., near where he now resides, July 17, 1860, and was the second of a family of four children born to William and Sarah (Willhoite) Swiney, natives of Kentucky. William Swiney was a farmer in Oldham County all his life, and at the time of his death, in 1868, owned about 160 acres of land. His wife died in 1865. Our subject was reared on the farm, and, on arriving at manhood, adopted agriculture as his vocation. He settled where he now resides, in Oldham County, in 1883, and has 200 acres of valuable land, well improved. January 26, 1882, he married Miss Anna A. Smith, daughter of Alexander B. and Susan Smith, of Henry County. To this union have been born two children: William B. and Benjamin A. Mr. Swiney is a member of the Christian Church, and his wife of the Methodist Episcopal Church South. Politically he is a Democrat.
