"A HISTORY OF THE DAVIESS-McLEAN BAPTIST ASSOCIATION IN KENTUCKY, 1844-1943" by Wendell H. Rone. Probably published in 1944 by Messenger Job Printing Co., Inc., Owensboro, Kentucky, pp. 437-438. Used by permission. [Owen] MRS. MARY ADELIE DIUGUID COAKLEY: Mrs. W. S. Coakley, wife of the present pastor of the Walnut Street Baptist Church, was born at Ghent, Kentucky, and is the daughter of Hiram and Emma McCann Diuguid. Her educational advantages were unusually good and she became a graduate of the Ghent High School and Georgetown College, Georgetown, Kentucky, receiving the A.B. Degree from the last mentioned institution. She was converted in the year 1902 and was baptized into the fellowship of the Ghent Baptist Church by Rev. Robert Hubbard, the pastor. During all of her Christian life she has been a very active worker in the Churches to which she has belonged. In that time she has taught in all of the Sunday School classes but the adult men and the cradle roll. She has served as a leader of all the different unions in the B. T. U. and has held every office in the local W. M. S. groups. Her time has likewise been given to the work of all of the auxiliary groups of the W. M. S., such as, the Y. W. A., R. A., and Sunbeams. At different periods of time she has served as Superintendent of the Young People's, Junior, and Intermediate Departments of the Sunday School. As Mrs. Coakley is a talented and accomplished musician we find her serving as pianist, organist, and choir director in a number of Churches in which she has held membership. Her work has not been confined to the Churches altogether. We note that she has served as Superintendent of the Nelson, Owen County, and Daviess-McLean Associational W. M. U Organizations. She is filling that position at present in this Association, this being the second time she has been elected to fill that office. For some time she served as the Young People's Leader in this Association. She has also served as one of the Vice- Presidents of the Kentucky W.M.U. She became the wife of Rev. W. S. Coakley on August 4, 1909, and is the mother of two sons and one daughter. For particulars concerning the children we refer you to her husband's sketch in this history. Mrs. Coakley has proved herself to be an able leader in the work of the women and young people in the Churches. Her contribution to the successes of her husband in his ministerial and pastoral labors cannot be measured.
