Kentucky: A History of the State, Battle, Perrin, & Kniffin, 7th ed., Pendleton Co. A. L. CALDWELL is a native of Pendleton County, Ky., and was born in 1834, a son of William Caldwell, who was born in the same county in 1806, was a farmer and married a Miss Bird, a native of Kenton County. A. L. Caldwell began his business life as a nurseryman, but after five years' experience in that line resorted to farming, and now cultivates on 440 acres. He was married in 1860 to Mrs. Elizabeth Grove, who was born in Adams County, Ill., in 1836, and is a daughter of William Wood, a farmer. Of the children born to this marriage six are living: Dora Ann (married to J. N. Yelton), Sarah, U. S. G., Estella, Carrie and Hortie. During the late war Mr. Caldwell served under Capt. Williams, of Tennessee, and also in the Twenty-third Kentucky Infantry, under Col. Marcellus Mundy.
