W.R. Reed, a native of Miami County, Ohio, was born January 16, 1857, and is
a son of H.M. and Louisa M. (Thirkield) Reed.  H. M. Reed, a native of
Pennsylvania, was born in 1822, and is now a prominent farmer of Pulaski
County, KY.  He has devoted the greater part of his life to stock-dealing,
raising fine horses and selling and trading them.  He is regarded by all who
know him as being a fine judge of horses.  He is a son of James Reed, who
was born in County Down, Ireland, and came to the United States about 1794
or '95.  He was a manufacturer of jeans and all kinds of woolen cloths.
Louisa M. (Thirkield) Reed was born in Warren County, Ohio, in 1828, and is
a daughter of James Thirkield, who was born in County Down, Ireland.  W.T.
Reed is of Irish descent on his father's side and of Scotch on his mother's.
He received his education at the common schools and at the Sidney Union
schools, Sidney, Ohio; where he graduated in 1877.  The following year he
engaged as book-keeper for Reed & Elliott, which position he occupied about
three years, and was then clerk in the recorder's office at Sidney one year.
He next worked for Thomas & Co. one year, and subsequently was with Alfred
Thirkield in the grocery business for the same length of time.  He was also
connected with the Sidney Journal as local reporter, and had charged of the
books one year.  He handled trotting horses for two seasons, visiting fairs,
races, etc., and was also with A.C. Alge, wholesale liquor dealer, of
Sidney, for awhile.  May 4, 1887, he located at Burnside, Pulaski County,
Ky., and took charge of a large hotel at that place.  It is a three-story
structure, provided with modern improvements, gas and water in every room,
hot and cold baths, in fact everything connected with a first-class hotel.
January 16, 1879, Mr. Reed married Miss Blanche Adella Eddy, of Vermont, a
daughter of George E. and Jane E. Eddy.  Two children have blessed this
union, Howard M. and Florence L.  Mrs. Reed is a member of the Methodist
Episcopal Church South.  Mr. Reed is a Republican.
