BUTLER, merchant, P. O. White Sulphur; is a native of this county and was born in 1852; he is a son of Daniel and Mary M. (Mefford) Butler, both natives of Scott County; his father was born about the year 1807; was a wagon-maker by trade, and died about 1875; his mother was born about 1829. Subject was educated in the common schools of White Sulphur Precinct, and after leaving school in 1871, commenced teaching, which vocation he followed until 1874, when he engaged in merchandising, a business he still follows; he was married April 21st 1880, in White Sulphur, to Miss Lizzie Glass, a daughter of J. C. and Ann E. Glass; he was born in Owen County in 1817, and she in Scott County about 1832; he (subject) is a County Surveyor, since 1879, and is at present a candidate for re-election; he is a Democrat politically; he is a prosperous merchant of White Sulphur, and the only one in the place; keeps a large stock of goods and is an enterprising business man.
