O. Georgetown; was born in Virginia in 1781, came to Fayette, near Bryant's Station; his father was Wm. Smith, born in Virginia, and was by occupation a farmer; died in 1824. The maiden name of his mother was Mary Rodes, born in Virginia; died in 1828; his parents had nine children, five sons and four daughters; he was educated in Virginia and began life with farming; was married in Scott County, in 1803; the maiden name of his wife was Sarah Kerr, born in Virginia in 1785; her father was David Kerr, born in Virginia in 1757; her mother being Dorothy Rhodes, born in Virginia. He was engaged in the business of farming; had ten children, as follows: Garland K., Sidney R., David W., William A., James N., Clifton R., D.
