Kentucky: A History of the State, Battle, Perrin, & Kniffin, 6th ed., 1887, Shelby Co. HARRISON BAILEY, a farmer, was born in Lincoln County, Ky., March 22, 1811, the eldest son of Elijah and Sallie (Jackman) Bailey. His father was born in Virginia, a son of Rev. John and Martha (Allen) Bailey. Rev. John came to Kentucky in 1784 and settled in Lincoln County; he signed the first and second constitutions. Harrison Bailey came to Shelby County, Ky., in 1839 and was sheriff for eight years, also represented the county one term in the Legislature. He married, January 19, 1843, Sarah Chiles, of Shelby County, daughter of Thomas and Martha (Dorsey) Chiles. Seven children were born to them, six of whom are living: Mary, wife of George Linderberger, of Louisville (they have three children: Lillie L., Laura and Harry); Annie, who married William Clark and had two children, Kate and Lou; Winford who married Lucy Day; Landon; Thomas, circuit clerk of Shelby County, and Hartwell. Mrs. Bailey died February 22, 1887. Mr. Bailey has followed farming and stock raising all his life, and is the owner of 400 acres of good land. He has lived through an eventful period and now in his old age he has many friends and no enemies, and is universally esteemed.
