GOFF was born in Mason County, Ky., in 1844, a son of John S. and Susan (Masterson) Goff, natives also of Mason County. His grandfather, John B. Goff, was a native of Ohio, a school teacher and merchant. Our subject was educated in the schools of Mason County, and has always been engaged in the tobacco business. In 1866 he moved to Shelby County, opened a large warehouse, and ships all his tobacco to Louisville. In 1869 he married Elizabeth Scroufe, daughter of S. L. and Mary A. (VanBusbirk) Scroufe of that county. To Mr. and Mrs. Goff have been born three children: Thomas, Katie and William M. Mr. Goff is a member of the Christian Church, and of the Louisville Commandery, Lodge No. 1. Politically he is a Democrat.
