WILLIAM A. HARDING, a farmer residing near Simpsonville, was born in Shelby
County June 27, 1846.  He is the first of seven children born to William
T. Harding, a native of Oldham County, Ky., and a son of Jonathan Harding,
one of the early settlers of Shelby County.  William T. was the fourth
child, and was born January 6, 1819.  His occupation has always been
farming, and he is now what might be termed a well-to-do farmer in Shelby
County.  December 3, 1844, he was united in marriage with Ellen Q. Young.
To this union were born seven children: William A., Laura B., James J.,
Thomas R., Nannie H., Edgar T. and Charles W.  Our subject settled where
he now resides in 1885, has 140 acres of land, and has followed farming
since his boyhood.  November 23, 1869, he was united in marriage with
Miss Sophie Vallandingham, daughter of George L. and Amanda (Ewing)
Vallandingham.  To this union were born four children--three daughters
and one son:  Mannie O., Annie L., Eva M. and William H.  Mr. and Mrs.
Harding are members of the Christian CHurch.  Politically he is a Democrat.
