KENTUCKY: A History of the State, Battle, Perrin & Kniffin, 4th ed., 1887 Taylor County CHARLES H. BENNETT was born in Wadsworth, Medina Co., Ohio, December 2, 1840, and is one of nine children born to Timothy S. and Rachael (Brown) Bennett, natives of Vermont and New York and of English origin. Timothy S. Bennett was born March 8, 1795, and received an excellent education in his native State. In 1812 he emigrated to Medina County, Ohio, where he was among the earliest pioneers. There he taught school for a time, and February 27, 1821, was married to Rachael Brown, who was born January 13, 1800. He entered wild land, and subsequently improved a farm upon which he remained until 1852, when he sold out, but soon after bought several other farms, one for each of his children, near Granger, same county. There Mrs. Rachael Bennett died March 13, 1875, and Timothy Bennett September 11, 1875. Both were life-long members of the Christian Church. He was also a bright member of the Masonic fraternity, having advanced to the thirty-second degree in the Scottish Rites, or Consistory. Mrs. Rachael (Brown) Bennett's father, Holland Brown, was also one of the early pioneers of Medina County, Ohio, and was a veteran in the war for independence, and in the war of 1812. Charles H. Bennett received a good common-school education in youth. He was employed on the home farm for his father until he attained his majority, after which his father deeded him the old homestead. Here he remained, engaged in agricultural pursuits and stock raising until 1883, when he sold out and moved to Campbellsville, Taylor County, Ky., where he has since been engaged in the real estate business, buying and selling for other parties and also on his own account, having in the past three years bought and sold some fifty or sixty farms besides over 6,000 acres of timber land. By means of extensive advertising and his indomitable, untiring energy, he has secured a large immigration to Taylor County from Ohio, Indiana, Michigan and Pennsylvania. For some fifteen months during the late civil war, 1862-63, he served as a teamster in the United States service between Louisville and Nashville. He has been twice married; first , January 9, 1865, to Miss Elizabeth Painter of Holmes County, Ohio, born in 1846. She was a daughter of John and Jane Painter. To this union were born one son and two daughters, two of whom are yet living, viz.: Wesley and Eudora. Mrs. Elizabeth Bennett's death occurred November 11, 1865 (sic). She was a devoted member of the Methodist Episcopal Church. Mr. Bennett next married February 13, 1875, to Miss Sarah C. Watkins, a native of Wildsville, W. Va., born in 1857. She is the daughter of Ephraim and Rachael (Nickels) Watkins. One son has blessed the union, Lyman. Both Mr. Bennett and his wife are consistent members of the Christian Church. In politics he is a Republican. Bennett Brown Painter Watkins Nickels = Medina-OH Holmes-OH VT NY IN MI PA http://www.rootsweb.com/~kygenweb/kybiog/taylor/bennett.ch.txt
