CARNEAL was born in Todd County, November 16, 1855; his parents are Joseph S. and Lucinda A. (Shemwell) Carneal, both natives of Kentucky. The father was a farmer, and served nine months in the Twenty-fifth Kentucky Regiment, United States Army, during the late war; he had the measles while in the army, and never recovered; his death was caused from that disease; his death occurred June 11, 1883; he was a member of the Baptist Church. The mother is still living at the age of sixty-eight, and makes her home with her son Benjamin. She is a member of the Baptist Church. Of their four children only two survive. Benjamin has always lived on this farm and has come into possession of it; it is a home-like residence, with about eighty-five acres of land, situated about a mile from Clifty Postoffice. He was married October 12, 1882, to Miss Mary Groves, daughter of James and Jane Groves, of Todd County. This union is blessed by the birth of one child--Eldred. Both parents are members of the Baptist Church. Carneal Shemwell Groves = none http://www.rootsweb.com/~kygenweb/kybiog/todd/carneal.bf.txt
