[Canton Precinct] MORGAN HOPSON was born in this county October 29, 1833, and is a son of Joshua and Lea (Wade) Hopson. Subject is the eldest of six children, of whom three are now living. He remained at home until the age of sixteen, and then clerked in a store at Canton for about two years; he next went to Garrettsburg, and clerked one year. In 1853 he moved to Mississippi, and there he engaged in agricultural pursuits until 1864; he then returned to Trigg County, and settled on his present farm. He first inherited 800 acres, and at present owns about 2,500 acres in this county, and 1,000 acres in Mississippi. Of the whole there are about 1,600 acres in cultivation. He pays considerable attention to stock-raising and trading. Mr. Hopson was married in Mississippi, January 14, 1858, to Miss Virginia L. Allen, a daughter of David B. Allen. Mrs. Hopson was born in Mississippi, and is the mother of ten living children--five sons and five daughters.
