WATKINS was born December 11, 1848, in Christian County, he is a son of Samuel M. and Sarah (Hawkins) Watkins; the former was born in Tennessee, and died in August, 1873, aged fifty-six; the latter was born in Christian County in 1821. Our subject after arriving at manhood removed to the Purchase, where he remained one year; he then came to Trigg County and worked for his uncle, Hezekiah T. Watkins, from 1870 to 1874, when he was married to Susan A., daughter of S. J. Watkins. He then lived on his father-in-law's farm one year, and then returned to his uncle's farm, where he worked two years. In the fall of 1877 he came to his present farm, consisting of 100 acres. Mr. and Mrs. Watkins have four bright children--three sons and one daughter. The parents are members of the Methodist Episcopal Church South.
