Kentucky: A History of the State, Battle, Perrin, & Kniffin, 6th ed., 1887, Trimble Co. RICHARD H. STROTHER, life insurance agent at Milton, Trimble Co., Ky., is a native of Carrollton, Ky., was born July 10, 1841, and is a son of Jeremiah and Sallie (Peniston) Strother, natives of Bourbon and Gallatin Counties. His grandfather, George Strother, was born in Culpeper County, Va., in 1776, came to Kentucky, and first located in Bourbon County, but about 1803 moved to Gallatin County and settled near Milton, now in Trimble County. He was justice of the peace under the old constitution, and a Methodist preacher. Jeremiah Strother was also a preacher and farmer, and was a general surveyor, having surveyed all the lands in Gallatin and Trimble Counties. He also represented the county of Gallatin in the State Legislature about the year 1827. His death occurred in 1878. Richard H. Strother was reared on the home farm near Milton, and was educated principally at the seminary at Taylorsville. In September, 1862, he volunteered in Col. Giltner's Fourth Kentucky Cavalry, was captured at Rheatown, Tenn., in October, 1863, and held prisoner at Camp Chase for two years. He returned to the old homestead, and in 1880 was elected magistrate of the Milton District, in which capacity he served six years. August 12, 1875, he married Miss Lucy, daughter of the later William R. Duncan, of Trimble County. Three children have been born to this union: Kate, Sallie and Jennie. Mr. Strother is now general agent in Carroll, Trimble, Gallatin, Grant and Owen Counties for the Union Central Life Insurance Company, of Cincinnati, with headquarters at Milton.
