HON. P. F. EDWARDS, of the firm of Edwards & Simmons, is a native of 
Edmonson County, Ky., born January 1, 1837.  He is a son of Levi and 
Malinda (Rhodes) Edwards, and is of French-English extraction.  The 
father of Mr. Edwards was also born in Edmonson County, in 1812; and his 
mother in the Empire State, in 1816.  His paternal grandfather, Andrew 
L. Edwards, was a native of Buckingham County, Va., and when a young man 
came to this State and settled in Edmonson County, where he died at 
about the age of eighty-six years.  The great-grandfather of our 
subject, Thomas Edwards, was also a Virginian.  The Edwards family was 
one of the early families of Edmonson County.  Hon. Mr. Edwards was 
educated at the schools of his native and Warren Counties; in 1863 began 
the study of law; was licensed to practice in 1867, and the same year 
located at Brownsville, Ky.  Politically Mr. Edwards is a Democrat.  He 
was first elected school commissioner, which office he held for four 
years; by appointment served as sheriff of Edmonson County for some 
time; in 1868 was elected county attorney of his county; re-elected in 
1870, and three years later was elected to represent Breckinridge, 
Grayson and Edmonson Counties in the Kentucky Senate, and defeated John 
B. Bruner by 257 votes.  Mr. Bruner had represented these three counties 
in the Senate for sixteen consecutive years prior to his defeat by Mr. 
Edwards.  In 1880 Mr. Edwards was chosen Democratic elector for the 
Third Congressional District of Kentucky.  In February, 1884, he came to 
Bowling Green, and here is actively engaged in the practice of law.  His 
marriage took place, in 1862, with Sarah J. Davis, a native of Rush 
County, Ind., and a daughter of Dr. William and Elizabth Davis.  Mr. and 
Mrs. Edwards are members of the Baptist Church.  He is a prominent 
lawyer, and one of the representative men of southern Kentucky.
