FREDERICK HESPEN is a native of Hanover, Germany, born in 1833, is a son of Anna (Johnson) Hespen, and is of German descent. At about the age of three years Mr. Hespen came to America with his parents, and settled in Milwaukee, Wis., remained there for some time and then removed to Chicago, Ill. In that city Mr. Hespen learned the baker's and confectioner's trades. In 1862 he came to Bowling Green and engaged in business. The first five years the business was not very successful. In 1881 and 1882 he erected his business block on Main Street. The salesroom is 37x62 feet and is one of the best furnished and located rooms in the city. Mr. Hespen is a practical business man, and since 1870 has been successful beyond his expectation. He ships daily his manufactures to many parts of the State, and furnishes bread to twenty towns on the Louisville & Nashville Railway. He has been the architect of his own fortune; is endowed with active business principles, and ranks as one of the leading confectioners and bakers of Kentucky. His marriage took place in 1855, with Catherine Gerker, a native of Hanover, Germany. They have four children as follows: Annie, Mary, John and Lizzie. Mr. Hespen is a Democrat.
