SAMUEL JOHNSON is a native of Lebanon, Wilson Co., Tenn., was born in 1853, and is the youngest of eleven children born to Joseph and Nancy (Brown) Johnson, and is of Scotch-Irish origin. Mr. Johnson was born in Virginia in 1784; came to Tennessee when a young man, settled in Wilson County, and there remained some years; then removed to Clarksville, where he died in 1864. The mother was born in North Carolina in 1792, and died in Clarksville, Tenn., in 1881. Samuel Johnson received his schooling at the schools of Clarksville. In 1855 in that city he engaged in the dry goods and grocery business, which he continued until 1873. From 1873 until 1879 he was engaged in the real estate and insurance business. In 1879 he began farming, which he continued until 1881. From 1881 until the latter part of 1882 he was employed by the Dayton (Ohio) Hedge Company. In 1883 he was made superintendent of the Kentucky Hedge Company, and that position he still retains. The marriage of Mr. Johnson was solemnized, in 1859, with Mary B. McKoin, a native of Clarksville, Tenn., daughter of John G. McKoin. They have three children: William M., Lillie L. and Samuel. Formerly Mr. Johnson was a Whig, but now is a Democrat. He and wife are prominent members of the Methodist Episcopal Church South. In 1883 Mr. John removed to the Park City. He is a man of extensive business experience and a worthy citizen.
