Insert:  The Coopers who were of German extraction, and whose name was
originally written Keifer, have been prominent in this Association
during its entire history.  They were early settlers in Wayne County,
where at least three of them were Revolutionary pensioners.

GEORGE FREDERICK COOPER (or Kiefer), according to family tradition, came
with Daniel Boone to Kentucky, in 1775, and was with that distinguished
pioneer when he recaptured his daughter and the Misses Calloway, from
the Indians, in July, of the following year.  He afterwards served four
years in the War of the Revolution.  At the close of the War, he
returned to Kentucky, and sesttled, first, in Mercer County; but
afterwards moved to Wayne county and located on Beaver Creek, where he
spent the remainder of a long and virtious life.
