WILL LANE was born in Anderson County, October 17, 1848, and is the third son of Moses and Mary (Edwards) Lane. Moses Lane was also a native of Anderson County and a son of Felix Lane, who was born in Virginia. Will Lane was educated in the common schools. At the age of seventeen he entered the store of B. Farm & Co., Farmdale, Ky., and clerked two years. He then passed four years on the home farm, and in 1874 opened a general store at Clifton, Woodford County; is still engaged, carrying a large and well assorted stock of merchandise, and doing an extensive trade. He secured the establishment of a postoffice at Clifton called Cicero postoffice; was appointed postmaster thereof, and still retains the position. He is also a notary public and insurance agent. In January, 1875, he married Miss Laura, daughter of Henry and Matilda (Sherlock) Cassell, of Woodford County, and is now the father of four children: Nevie, Lillie D., J. Ed and Willie.
