(Phelps) Mitchell, and was born June 27, 1852. William J. Mitchell was born in Fayette County, November 29, 1824, and was taken by his parents at the age of one year to Jessamine County, where he remained until 1861, when he removed to Woodford County, where he is still living. The paternal grandfather of George W. Mitchell, Benjamin Mitchell, was born in Fayette County in 1793; was a carpenter and farmer, and died in 1849. George W. Mitchell's great-grandfather, Richard Mitchell, was born in Virginia, and was a farmer. George W. Mitchell was reared on a farm in Jessamine County, where he was born, but in 1861 was taken by his father to Woodford County, where he was educated. November 25, 1876, he married Miss Lizzie, daughter of Andrew and Sallie (Gray) Steele, of Fayette County, Ky. Of the four children born to this union three are living: Benjamin A., Andrew S. and Annie P. Mr. Mitchell resides in Midway Precinct, Woodford County, and is engaged in raising Shorthorn cattle.
