ARTHUR SUBLETTE was born in Woodford County, March 29, 1840, and is the third son of Samuel and Fannie (Ains) Sublette. Samuel Sublette was also born in Woodford County, and was a farmer all his life. Lewis Sublette, father of Samuel, was born in Virginia, and was among the first settlers of Woodford County, all the nails that were used in building his house having been carried from Virginia on a horse, and the shingles put on with pegs. Arthur Sublette was reared in Woodford County until he was eighteen years old. He then went to Lebanon, Ill., remained eight years engaged in farming and stock trading, and then returned to Woodford County, Ky. In 1865 he opened a general store in Mortonsville, remained in business until 1869, and has since been engaged in farming and stock raising. He was married, October 15, 1868, to Rubie McClure of Woodford County, daughter of Abraham McClure. Seven children blessed this union, five living, viz.: Samuel O., Frank, Abraham, Bettie and Pauline. Mrs. Sublette died January 8, 1886, a member of the Christian Church.
