The board issued this statement in answer to a full page advertisement in a local morning paper to the effect that a meeting of the Ku Klux Klan would be held here Saturday. On reading the advertisement, Mayor Smith called in Police Chief Petty, members of the Board of Safety and city Attorney Joseph S. Lawton. the meeting decided on the policy of forbidding the Ku Klux meeting on the ground that it would be a menace to public order through the spread of prejudices and racial hatred. ed. ______________________________
