This indenture made the 6th day of January 1834. Witnesseth that Lot P i t m a n Clerk of the Laurel County Court by order of Jed. Hibbard, Thomas Jones, James P. Carpenter, Wm. G. Pitman, John Mershon and B. Catching, Justices of Sd. Court do place and bind Jesse Carwell(?) Hicks, orphan of Allen Hicks Decsd. aged 6 years next October to James Moore to learn the business of farming. With him to dwell & him to serve from the date hereof until he shall arrive at the age of 21 years. He shall demean himself well towards Sd. Moore and serve him on all Lawful business during sd. term and said Moore doth bind himself, his heirs &c. to & with the Sd. Lot P i t m a n Clerk as aforesaid and his successors in office that he will well instruct sd. apprentice in the business of farming and provide for him sufficient meat, drink, apparel, washing, Lodging and mending and all things fit & necessary for an apprentice and teach or cause him to be taught reading, writing arithmetic including the rule of three and at the expiration of sd. term give him three pounds ten shillings and a decent Suit of Clothes. Witness my hand and Seal the day and date above written.
