Thursday, March 10, 1977 - Interior Journal  

OAKES, Clarence  

Clarence Oakes, 76, of Lancaster, died Sunday, March 6, 1977.

Mr. Oakes was a retired City Hall employee and belonged to the Lancaster Christian Church.  

Survivors include his wife, Mrs. Flossie Gastineau Oakes; two daughters, Mrs. Sue Edith Vaughn of Grand Rapids, Mich., and Mrs. Ruby Joyce Allen of Middletown, 
Ohio; a brother, Frank Oakes of Stanford; four sisters, Mrs. George Pero of Louisville, Mrs. Louis Ball, Mrs. John D. Arnold and Mrs. Wes Miller, all of Lancaster and four grandchildren.  

Funeral services were held on Tuesday at 10:30 a.m. at Ramsey Funeral Home in Lancaster. The Rev. Neil Bergman officiated and burial was in Lancaster Cemetery.

OAKES, Flossie Mae  

Flossie Mae Oakes, 83, died Saturday, March 26, 1994 at Garrard County Memorial Hospital, Lancaster, Ky.  

A resident of Danville Road, Lancaster, Ky. she was born October 14, 1910 in Garrard County, Ky. and was a daughter of the late Grover C. and Alpha Naylor Gastineau.  

She was a homemaker, a member of the Lancaster Christian Church and a Kentucky Historical Society and the widow of Clarence Oakes.  

Survivors include two daughters, Joyce Allen of Trenton, Ohio and Sue Vaughn of Grand Rapids, Michigan; two sisters, Juanita Horton of Lancaster, Ky. and Sue 
Lane of Spring City, Tenn.; three brothers. Russell Gastineau and Robert Gastineau both of Lancaster, Ky. and James Gastineau of Florida; four grandchildren.

Graveside services were held at 11: a.m., Tuesday, March 29, 1994 at the Lancaster Cemetery Shelter officiated by Rev. Bill Hawkins. Burial was in Lancaster Cemetery.

OAKES, Frank  

Services for Frank Oakes, 70, of Stanford Rt. 2, a retired Carpenter and shoe repair shop owner. were held at 2 p.m. Monday at Morgan and Fox Funeral 
Home with burial in Lancaster Cemetery.  

Mr. Oakes, who was born in Lancaster Feb 21, 1907, the son of John T. and Cordelia Reynolds Oakes, died Friday, Sept. 30, at Fort Logan Hospital after a long illness. 
He was a member of the Stanford Christian Church and Lincoln Lodge No. 60, F& AM.  

Survivors include his widow, Mrs. Grace Wells Oakes; and four sisters, Mrs. Lewis Ball, Mrs. Wesley Miller and Mrs. John D. Arnold, all of Lancaster, and Mrs. George Pero of Louisville.  

Active pallbearers were Ed Southard, Oley Potts, Melvin Owens, Wallace Price, Short Saufley and Fleece Gooch, Masonic Lodge members were honorary pallbearers.

OAKES, Grace  

Grace Oakes, age 82 of Crab Orchard Street, Lancaster, died 7:02 a.m. Monday at Garrard County Memorial Hospital. She was born July 8, 1904 in Garrard 
County, a daughter of the late William M. and Alberta Lunsford Oakes. She was a member of the Lancaster Christian Church and was a retired employee of Garrard County Memorial Hospital.  

Survivors include 5 sisters, Mrs. Jennie Baker, Mrs. Ella Rankin, Mrs. Rebecca Gilbert all of Lancaster, Mrs. Laverne Walker, Indiana and Mrs. Allene Grover of Houston, 
Texas; 2 brothers, Walter Oakes, Tucson, Arizona and Billy Oakes, Lancaster and several nieces and nephews.  

Funeral services were held 2 p.m. Wednesday (January 28, 1987) at Ramsey Funeral Home officiated by Rev. Stephen Stout. Burial was in Lancaster Cemetery. 

Pallbearers were Caywood and Mark Metcalfe, James Long, Mike Long, Wade Vaught, John Aldridge and E. J. Hasty.

OAKES, Grace Wells  

Grace Wells Oakes, 86, of 302 Church Street, Stanford, Ky. died Wednesday August 7, 1996 at Fort Logan Hospital in Stanford.  

A native of Garrard County Ky., she was the daughter of the late Frank and Nellie Ricketts Wells. She was a homemaker and member of the Stanford Christian 
Church and the Order of Eastern Star of Stanford, KY and was the widow of Frank Oakes.  

Survivors include two nieces, Marie Downey of Junction City, Ky. and Helen Wearren of Lancaster, Ky; one nephew, Thomas Downey of Moreland, Ky; and several great nieces and nephews.  

Graveside services were held Saturday, August 10 at the Lancaster Cemetery officiated by the Rev. Jim Linn.

OAKES, Matt Hughie  

August 23, 1936 - July 16, 1989  

Matt Hughie Oakes, 52, of 90 Rector Road, Waynesburg, died  Sunday at Fort Logan Hospital.  

Born Aug. 23, 1936 in Lincoln County, he was the son of the late Charlie and Pearl Simpson Oaks. He worked in the paint department of Whirlpool for 18 years 
and was a member of Mount Hebron Baptist Church.  

Survivors include his wife, Faye Holloway Oaks; a son, Kyle Matthew Oaks of Waynesburg; two daughters, Mrs. Johnny (Karen) Blanton of Broughtontown and 
Mrs. Mark (Lori) Brummett of Waynesburg; six brothers, Paul James, David Samuel, Kenneth Eugene and Otis Alfred Oakes all of Waynesburg, Clyde Sherman Oakes 
of Stanford and Dennis Ray Oakes of Danville; Four sisters, Ruth Mae Rector, Mary Helen Nave and Martha Ann Farmer, all of Waynesburg; and Edith 
Virginia Nave of Lancaster; and three grandchildren.  

The funeral was held at 2 p.m. Tuesday at Fox Funeral Home in Stanford by Terry Walters, Randy McPheron and Dan Gutenson, Burial was in Mount Hebron Baptist Church Cemetery.

Stanford (Spl) - Mrs. Pearl Jane Oakes, 69 of Waynesburg Rt. 2, died Sunday at Fort Logan Hospital after a long illness.  

A native of Mountain City, Tenn., she was a housewife and member of Mt. Hebron Baptist Church.  

Survivors include her husband, Charlie Oakes of Waynesburg Rt. 2; four daughters, Mrs. Ruth Mae Rector and Mrs. Martha Ann Farmer, both of Waynesburg Rt 2, Mrs. 
Helen Nave of Waynesburg Rt. 2, and Mrs. Edith Virginia Nave of Stanford Rt. 2; eight sons, Dennis Ray of Hustonville Rt. 1, Paul James of Pleasant Hill, Clyde Sherman 
of Stanford Rt. 2; Walter lee, Matt Hughie, Otis Alford and David Samuel, all of Waynesburg Rt. 2, and Kenneth Oakes of Waynesburg Rt. 1; a sister, Mrs. Rosie Oakes 
of Laport, Ind.; two brothers, Joseph Simpson of Ashville, N. C.  and Baxter Simpson of Waynesburg Rt. 2; 18 grandchildren and 10 great-grandchildren.  

Services will be held at 2 p.m. Wednesday at Mt. Hebron Baptist Church with Burial in the Church Cemetery.

Friends may call at Morgan and Fox Funeral Home after 1 p.m. Tuesday.

OAKES, Vera Mae  

February 14, 1918 - November 17, 1991  

Verna Mae Oakes, 73, of the McKinney Community of Lincoln County, died Sunday, November 17, 1991 at her home.  

Born February 14, 1918, in Garrard County. She was a daughter of Willie and Lizzie Bryant. A homemaker, she was a member of McKinney Christian Church.  

Survivors include her husband, William Gather Oakes; two sons, James Alfred Oakes of Richmond, Ind., and Hershel Eugene Oakes of Hustonville; a daughter, Shirley 
Christine Hilderbrand of Greenville, Ohio; a sister, Stella Lamb of Richmond, Ind.; eight grandchildren and 12 great grandchildren.  

The funeral was held at 11 a. m. Wednesday, November 20 at Fox Funeral Home, Stanford, officiated by Brother Jeff Helton.  Burial was in McKinney Cemetery.

February 16, 1892 - June 14, 1980  

Charlie Oaks, 88, of Waynesburg, Route 2, died Saturday, June 14 at Ephraim McDowell Hospital.  

The Lincoln County native was a retired farmer and a member of Mount Hebron Baptist Church.

He was a veteran of World War I.  

Survivors include four daughters, Ruth Mae Rector and Martha Ann Farmer, both of Waynesburg Route 1, Mary Helen Nave of Waynesburg Route 2 and Edith Virginia 
Nave of Stanford; eight sons, Paul James of Monticello, Clyde Sherman of Stanford, Dennis Ray of Hustonville Route 1, Walter Lee, Matt Hughie, Odis Alfred and 
David Samuel, all of Waynesburg Route 2, and Kenneth Eugene Oaks of Waynesburg, Route 1; 20 grandchildren and 12 great grandchildren.  

Funeral was held at 2 p.m. Tuesday at Mount Hebron Baptist Church with Revs. George Anderson and Jimmy McKinney officiating. Burial was in the church cemetery.

Morgan and Fox Funeral Home was in charge.

Pallbearers were Kenneth McLamore, Sammy Martin, Buddy Nave, Lowell Saylor, Billy and Jimmy Snyder.

Henry Oaks, 47, of Route 1, Crab Orchard, died Thursday, May 7, at his home.  

A native of Lincoln County, he was the son of the late Milton and Rose Simpson Oaks, employed at Stanford Wood Products Co. and a member of a Baptist church.  

Survivors include his wife, Mrs. Martha Josephine Oaks, West Alexander, Ohio; one daughter, Mrs. Christine Oaks, Route 1, Crab Orchard; four sons, 
Calvin Oaks, U.S. Air Force, Omaha, Neb. , Ricky D. Oaks, West Alexander, Ohio, Keith and Gary Lee Oaks both of Route 1, Crab Orchard; two sisters, 
Mrs. Mary Jewell Carroll, Middletown, Ohio and Mrs. Pauline Woodson, Michigan City, Ind.; four brothers, Vernon W. Oaks, Route 2, Waynesburg, Wilbur Oaks, 
Middleton, Ohio, John L. Oaks, Middleton, Ohio and Milton Oaks Jr., Route 1, Waynesburg.  

Pallbearers were Hal Oaks, John L. Oaks, Jr. Darrell Oaks, Terry Oaks, Dean Woodson, Donnie Banks.  

Funeral services were held Sunday, May 10 at the Mt. Hebron Baptist Church with the Revs. George Anderson and Cecil Roundtree officiating. 
Burial was in Mt. Hebron Cemetery

Morgan and Fox Funeral Home was in charge of arrangements.

Jim Oaks, 78, of Route 2, Waynesburg, died Thursday December 31 at his home.  

Survivors include his wife, Bertie Powell Oaks; three daughters, Lena Blanton of Crawfordsville, Ind., Edna Mae Smith of Seymour, Ind., and Helen Caudill of Route 2, 
Waynesburg; a brother, Vernon Oaks of Crab Orchard; 19 grandchildren and 28 great-great grandchildren; his parents Emma and Daniel Oaks.

Services were conducted Saturday at Mount Hebron Baptist Church with the Rev. Jimmy McKinney officiating. Burial was in the church cemetery.

Oaks' grandsons served as pallbearers.  

Beazley - Raney-Speaks Funeral Home was in charge of arrangements.

OAKS, Mildred S.  

June 14, 1931 - November 24, 1988  

Moreland - Mildred Marie Sears Oaks, 56, of Stanford, formerly of Moreland, died Thursday night at Fort Logan Hospital, Stanford, after an illness.  

She is the widow of Charles Oaks. She was the daughter of Mary Eliza Sears Griffin of Moreland and the late Joe Sears.  

Additional survivors include a daughter Joyce Ann Maddox of Stanford; three brothers, Hubert Sears of Indianapolis, Dawson Sears of Moreland and Lee Sears of Norwood, Ind.; 
four sisters, Nellie Payton of Hustonville, Elsie Kidd of Danville, Evie Downs of Junction City, Ruby Belvin of Harrodsburg and Mary Kingery of Jacksonville, 
Fla.; three grandchildren, and two great-grandchildren.  

The funeral was held Sunday at W. L. Pruitt Funeral Home, Moreland. Burial was in Moreland Cemetery

Mrs. Rosa Carolina Oaks, 72, of Michigan City, Ind., died suddenly of a heart attack on Tuesday, March 22, 1977 at Fort Logan Hospital.  

A native of Mountain City, Tenn., she was the widow of Milton Oaks and a member of Mt. Hebron Baptist Church.  

Survivors are two daughters, Mrs. Mary Jewell Carroll of Middletown, Ohio and Mrs. Pauline Woodson of Michigan City, Ind. ; five sons, Vernon W. of Rt. 2, Waynesburg, 
Wilbur of Tazewell, Tenn., Milton Jr. of Stanford, John L. of Middletown, Ohio, and Henry Oaks of Rt. 2, Crab Orchard; two brothers, Joseph Simpson of Asheville, 
North Carolina and Baxter Simpson of Rt. 2, Waynesburg., twenty-one grandchildren and fifteen great grandchildren.  

Funeral services were held at Mt. Hebron Baptist Church on Friday, March 25 at 2:00 p.m.

The Revs. George Anderson and Cecil Roundtree officiated. Burial was in Mt. Hebron Cemetery

Morgan & Fox Funeral Home was in charge of arrangements.

Waynesburg - Vernon Oaks, 78, of Waynesburg Route 2, died Sunday at his home after an illness.

Born March 30, 1911 in Lincoln County, he was a son of the late Daniel & Emma Powers Oaks. He was a farmer.  

Survivors include his wife, Katherine Hutchason Oaks.

The funeral was held Tuesday at Mount Hebron Baptist Church by Shelby Reynolds.

Burial was in Mount Hebron Cemetery.  

Barnett and Demrow funeral Home, Waynesburg, was in charge of funeral arrangements.

OLIVER, Richard  

June 20, 1888 - June 25, 1977  

Richard H. Oliver, 88 of Route 1, Crab Orchard, died Saturday, June 25, at the Friendship House, Danville, after a long illness.  

A native of Rockcastle County, he had lived most of his life in Lincoln County.  

He was a retired farmer and a member of the Reorganized Church of Latter Day Saints, Louisville.  

Survivors include three daughters, Mrs. Lillian Zwahlen, Route1, Waynesburg, Mrs. Doris Irvine, Route 1, Crab Orchard, Mrs. Barbara Siler, Mansfield, Ohio; a son, Hugh Oliver,
 Jackson, Mississippi, ten grandchildren and seven great grandchildren.  

Funeral services were 1 p.m. Monday at the Friendship Baptist Church with Rev. Elmore Ray officiating. Burial was in Friendship Cemetery. [Friendship Baptist Church Cemetery]

Dovie Lee Owens, 77, of Rt. 4, Stanford, died Saturday, July 19 at the U.K. Medical Center in Lexington.  

A native of Lincoln County, she was born Oct. 27, 1908 to William Zack and Nannie Belle Coffman Yocum. She was a housewife and a member of Geneva Baptist Church.  

Survivors include her husband, Clarence Owens, Stanford; three sons, James T. and Sherman B., both of Rt. 4, Stanford and Leonard D. Owens, Mt. Eden, Ky.; three daughters, 
Norma Bell Manuel, Wanda Lee Allison, and Wilma Jean Hill, all of Rt. 4, Stanford; two brothers,

Luther B. Yocum, Stanford, and Raymond Yocum, Kings Mountain; two sisters, Edith Myrtle Brown, Hustonville and Gracie Ellen Stull, Birmingham, Ala. ; 
34 grandchildren and 26 great-grandchildren.  

Funeral services were held Tuesday, July 22 at the Geneva Baptist Church with Revs. Gernie York, and Lewis Walters officiating. Burial was in Easom [Eason] Cemetery in McKinney, Ky.

Fox Funeral Home was in charge of the arrangements.
