Lt. Col. (Retired) Glen D. Carpenter, 81, of Danville, KY passed away on Tuesday, June 03, 2014 at Ephraim McDowell Regional Medical Center. He was the husband of Mary Joe (Anderson) Carpenter of Danville, KY. He was born June 22, 1932 in Mangum, Oklahoma. He was raised in Hobart, Oklahoma and graduated from Hobart High School in 1950. He was the son of Clara Carpenter of Altus, Oklahoma, and the late Lawrence Carpenter.

Col. Carpenter attended the University of Oklahoma and holds degrees in Business Administration and Cooperate Management. He graduated from several Military Officer's schools that include the Special Forces Civil Affairs School, Special Warfare School, Naval Amphibious School, and worked with the Navy Seals. He was classified as a Jungle Expert.

Col. Carpenter served in numerous military assignments within the U.S. Overseas assignments include serving with the Oklahoma 45th Infantry Division during the Korean conflict, as well as assignments in Japan, Okinawa, two tours in Vietnam, Germany, and Panama Canal Zone. Col. Carpenter served on the General Staff of the Ryukyu Islands and was the commander of the Buffalo, N.Y. Armed Forces Examining Station.

Military decorations are: The Combat Infantry Badge, Two Bronze Stars, The Army Joint Service Commendation Medal, Three Army Commendation Medals, The Korean Service Medal with on battle star, The Vietnam Service Medal with five battle stars and received the Vietnamese Honor Medal, Vietnamese Gallantry Cross with Palm and the Vietnam Staff Service Medal.

Upon retirement from the military, Col. Carpenter was the General Manager of the second largest, All Faith Cemetery Cooperation in the San Francisco Bay area.

In addition to his wife and mother, survivors include two daughters: Glenna D. (Tim) Andre' of LaGrange, KY, and Neville Anne (Norbert) McCloskey of Ithaca, N.Y.

A graveside service at Buffalo Springs Cemetery, Stanford, KY, has been scheduled for Saturday, June 7, 2014 at 11:30am with Reverend Ronnie Ping officiating. Burial will follow at Buffalo Springs Cemetery. Spurlin Funeral Home, Stanford is in charge of the arrangements.

Myrtle Wayne Rucker Carroll, 89 of Portland, TN died June 27, 2014 at The Bridge at Highland in Portland, TN. Born March 27, 1925, she was the daughter of the late Saint Clair and Hattie Mae Morgan Rucker. She had worked at Sears, Roebuck & Company before retiring. She was a Seventh-day Adventist.

Myrtle was preceded in death by a brother, James Marcus Rucker and by five sisters: Amelia Rucker, Leola Pugh, Marveline Bartlett, Dortha Rucker and Martha Clabaugh.

She is survived by a daughter, Betsy White (Mike) of Dunlap, TN and two grandchildren, Jason Dyer of Portland, OR and Shana Dyer Ringer of Chattanooga, TN. She is also survived by nieces and nephews, Hatty Gill, Jane Fleshman, Hinton Clabaugh, Jr., James Rucker, Jr. and Rosalee DeAngelo. Services will be at 2:00 PM Sunday June 29, 2014 at Highland Seventh-day Adventist Church in Portland, TN with visitation after 12 Noon.

Burial will be at Moreland Cemetery in Moreland, KY with a Graveside Service on Monday June 30, 2014 at 1:00 pm. Visitation will be after 11:30 am Monday at W.L. Pruitt Funeral Home in Moreland.

Clinton L. Cason, age 48, of Ellison-Eubank Road in Eubank, passed away Friday, July 18, 2014 in Cincinnati, Ohio.  Born Monday, August 16, 1965 in Cincinnati, Ohio, he was the son of Wilma Martin Cason of Eubank and the late Carl Leamon Cason.  Clinton built windows for Vinylmax for many years.  He attended Polly Ann Baptist Church.  He loved video games, playing his guitar, and was a collector of many things.

In addition to his mother, Clinton leaves behind three brothers, Michael A. Cason of Eubank, Carl David Cason (Cindy) of Cincinnati, Ohio, and Phillip E. Cason of Cincinnati, Ohio; and one sister, Deborah G. Shrewsbury (Kevin) of Cincinnati, Ohio.

In addition to his father, he was preceded in death by one sister, Linda Lou Lunsford.

A Graveside Service will be held 12Noon Tuesday, July 22, 2014 at Pilot Cemetery with Bro. Kerry Jones officiating the service.  Burial will immediately follow the service.

Barbara Kaye Charlton, 69, of Highland Heights, KY passed away Friday, July 4, 2014 at Providence Healthcare Of Gallatin. Born March 9, 1945 in Kings Mountain, KY she was the daughter of the late Oscar Williard and Mary Josephine Coker Green. She worked in both retail services and was also a truck driver for most of her life. She attended Pleasant Point Baptist Church in Kings Mountain, KY.

Survivors include three sons: Oscar Shannon Pumphrey of Kings Mountain, KY, Brian Keith Pumphrey of Highland Heights, KY, and Michael James Charlton of Alexandria, KY, two daughters: Cricket Lynn Pumphrey and Veronika Jolee Dunbar (Terry) all of Highland Heights, KY, one sister: Patsy Carol Reed (James Howard) of Stanford, KY, ten grandchildren, nine great-grandchildren, and several nieces and nephews. She was preceded in death by one son: Williard Jackson Pumphrey.

A one day service has been scheduled for Tuesday, July 8, 2014 at Spurlin Funeral Home Chapel, Stanford. Visitation will be from 11am – 1pm and funeral service will begin at 1pm with Jason Coulter officiating. Burial will follow at Pleasant Point Cemetery in Kings Mountain, KY. Katrina Shawn Turner Cunagin, 44 of Crab Orchard, passed away Wednesday, June 18th, at her home. She was the wife of Chad Cunagin whom she married on November 10, 2012. Katrina was born in Versailles, Kentucky on February 15, 1970. She was the daughter of Betty (Flannery) Price. Katrina was a faithful member of the Crab Orchard Baptist Church and was a devoted Sunday School teacher. She was an advid supporter for cancer fundraisers and she an inspiration for many Cancer patients and their families. Katrina was an amazing wife, mother, daughter, sister, aunt & a dear friend to many.

Randell Edward Downs, 67, of Stanford, KY died Friday, July 4, 2014, at EMRMC in Danville, KY. He was born January 21, 1947 to Eva Sears Downs and the Late Leslie Downs. He was retired from SDS Service in Danville, KY and attended Faith Temple Church in Jesus Name.

Survivors include a son, Shane Edward Downs of Stanford, KY, two daughters, Treva Downs of Liberty, KY and Michelle Hall of Indiana; his mother, Eva Sears Downs of Stanford, KY; a brother, Harshall Downs of Stanford, KY and a sister, Patsy Coomer of Junction City, KY; four grandchildren; he was preceded in death by a son, Randell Dwight Downs.

Visitation will be Sunday, July 6, 2014, from 5-9, funeral service will be 2pm Monday, July 7, 2014, all at Spurlin Funeral Home Chapel. Brother Mark Yocum will be officiating with burial in Buffalo Springs Cemetery.

James "Jim" Duncan, 79 of Blue Ash, Ohio passed away Thursday, May 29th, at Bethesda North Hospital. He was the husband of the late Martha Wallace "Wally" Todd Duncan who preceded him in death on March 30, 2012. James was born in the Hummel Community of Rockcastle County Kentucky on June 2, 1934. He was the son of the late William Garvin & Bessie (McGuire) Duncan.

James was a member ofthe Fellowship Baptist Church in Montgomery, Ohio and was a retired employee of General Motors.

Survivors Include, his two loving daughters, Vicki Duncan of Blue Ash and Glynna & Her Husband Steve Hanrahan of Loveland, Ohio

Also surviving is his Four Grandchildren, Carrie Todd, Kyle Hanrahan, Jordan (Chad) Lowe and Leah Hanrahan and his Five Great Grandchildren Lydia, Adrian, Logan, Lilly and Peyton

He is survived by his daughter, Cassie Elizabeth Beavers and grandson, Thomas Beavers of Georgetown; four sisters: Bonnie (Delbert) Maddox of Moreland, Ruth (Rickey) Cochran of Moreland, Kathy (Ken) Fletcher of FL and Nellene New of Louisville; and four brothers: Randall Eades of Junction City, Kenneth (Karen) Eades of Moreland, Manuel (Anette) Eades of Georgetown and Keith (Brigette) Eades of Shelbyville. He was preceded in death by a brother, Bobby.

Charles William Elam, 85, of Crab Orchard, Kentucky, died Monday evening, June 16, 2014, at Christian Care Center in Lancaster, Kentucky.

Charles was the husband of Betty J. Simpson Elam, whom he married Nov. 12, 1953. Born Nov. 11, 1928, in Crab Orchard, he was the son of the late Charles F. Elam and Lorena Harris Elam. He was a veteran of the United States Army and a Silver Star recipient of the Korean War.

He was a longtime deacon of Crab Orchard Baptist Church, and he was a former maintenance foreman of the Lincoln County Fiscal Court. He was a member of Caswell Saufley American Legion Post 18 of Stanford, Kentucky, a member of Crab Orchard Masonic Lodge 636 F&AM, a member of the Scottish Rite and a Shiner. Mr. Elam was a Kentucky Colonel and former board member of Crab Orchard Cemetery.

Survivors include his wife, Betty; son Rodney and his wife Judy Elam of Crab Orchard; four grandchildren, Justin and wife Shae Elam, Tonya and husband Darren Pike, Seth Elam and his friend Sandy Miller, Tara Elam and her friend Derik Byrd; four great-grandchildren, Wyatt and Cheyenne Elam and Brady and Brock Pike; and a sister, Lizzie and husband Dee Harrison. He was preceded in death by two sisters, Pauline and Dorothy Jameson, and one brother, Pete Elam.

The funeral will be noon Friday, June 20, at McKnight Funeral Home Chapel with Bro. Isaiah Super officiating. Burial will be in Camp Nelson National Cemetery in Nicholasville with military honors by Caswell Saufley American Legion Post 18. Pallbearers will be Justin, Seth, Wyatt and Pete Elam, Darren Pike and Derik Byrd. Honorary pallbearers will be Cheyenne Elam, Brady and Brock Pike and John Sims.

Visitation will be 5 p.m. Thursday at the funeral home.

Margaret Ellen Floyd, 71, of Somerset, Ky., departed this life on Monday, June 23, 2014 at Lake Cumberland Regional Hospital.

Margaret was born on July 14, 1942, in Waynesburg, Ky., to the late Quantrell and Esther Stringer. She was a cook for Woodson Bend Resort. Margaret was of the Baptist Faith.

She is survived by her children: three sons, Jimmy Floyd, of Monticello, Ky., Kenneth "Junior" Floyd, of Somerset and Ralph James Floyd, also of Somerset; four daughters, Frances Floyd, of Somerset, Angel Elliott (and Ralph Mayfield), of Nancy, Ky., Violet Pitman, of Somerset, and Janice Allen Floyd, also of Somerset; two sisters, Helen Stringer, of Mich. and Aline (and Don) Ryan, also of Mich.; 20 grandchildren, Lola, Barbra, Jimmy, Roy, Shawn, Willie, Crystal, Ashley, Christopher, April, Ashley, Johnathan, Josh, Dustin, Shantell, Brian, Amber, Brad, Rhonda, and Shawnda; 32 great-grandchildren; and several nieces and nephews and many friends who will miss her dearly.

Preceding Margaret in death were her parents; her husband, Kenneth Eldon Floyd; and her brother, Elvin Stringer.

A gathering of family and friends will be held on Thursday, June 26, 2014, from 1 p.m. until 3 p.m.

Her funeral service will follow the gathering at 3 p.m. Bro. Randy Wiles will officiate the funeral service.

Born May 27, 1932 in Waynesburg, KY to the late Henry "Carter" and Bertha Payne Story, she was the widow of the late Carroll B. Gooch. She worked as a bookkeeper for Lincoln Lumber Company and was also a member of Stanford Baptist Church.

Survivors include one son: Jeff Gooch (Cathy) and one daughter: Jan Hawkins (Doug) both of Louisville, KY, three brothers: Darrel, Glen, and Randy Story all of Waynesburg, KY, one sister: Phyllis McMichael of Louisville, KY, two grandchildren: J.D. Hawkins and Michael Hawkins, and several nieces and nephews. Born on April 5, 1954 to Audry C. and Reba James Gourley in Stanford, Kentucky. Sharon graduated from Arsenal Technical High School in 1972. She had previously been employed by RCA, Polygram, and most recently by Sigma – Tau Pharmasource in the shipping and receiving department. Spending time with her family and especially her grandchildren is what Sharon enjoyed the most.

Survivors include her two sons: Eric Gourley and Zachary Whittaker; four siblings: Margaret Dilley, Dianne Gourley, Audry C. Gourley Jr., and Jim Gourley; four grandchildren, three nieces, and four nephews.

Funeral Services will be conducted at 12 P.M. on Saturday, June 16, 2012 at Wilson St.Pierre Funeral Service and Crematory, Sterling Gerber Chapel 5950 E. Thompson Rd., Indianapolis. Correne Gross, age 82, a native of Waynesburg, Lincoln County, passed away Saturday, June 7, 2014 at her home in Danville, KY. She had been in failing health for several years. The daughter of Lester and Verna (Mitchell) Smallwood, she was born December 13, 1931. Her parents preceded her in death.

Mrs. Gross was a 1950 graduate of Waynesburg High School, Lincoln County. In 1981, she retired from R.L. Polk & Company, Cincinnati, OH as administrative assistant to the company accountant.

She married Roy G. Gross of Boone County, KY, on February 27, 1971. He preceded her in death on January 2, 2005 in Ocala, FL. The couple had no children. Already in failing health, Mrs. Gross returned to Kentucky three years after Roy's death to be closer to family who cared for her needs.

She is survived by three sisters, A. Willena Cook (widow of Kenneth M. Cook) of Monroe, OH; Phyllis S. Emerson of Sautee-Nacoochee, GA; and Velma (Charles) Johnson of Danville, KY. She is also survived by a special stepson, Gregory Gross, by several nieces and nephews, and by countless friends across several states, all of whom mourn her passing.

At her death, Mrs. Gross was a member of First Baptist Church, Danville, KY.

Visitation will be held between 12 Noon and 2 PM on Friday, June 13, 2014 at Morris & Hislope Funeral Home, Science Hill, KY. The funeral service will be conducted by the Reverend Tim Mathis at the funeral home immediately following visitation. Jane McFalls Hibbard, age 67, of North Fishing Creek Road in Kings Mountain, passed away Saturday, June 14, 2014 at Ephraim McDowell Regional Medical Center in Danville.  Born Friday, November 29, 1946 in Kings Mountain, she was the daughter of the late Amos & Lillian Derry McFalls.  She was the widow of the late Art Hibbard, who preceded her in death February 2, 2014.  Jane worked as a van driver for Lincoln County Senior Citizens Center for 28 years.  She was of the Methodist faith, a member of the Lincoln County Senior Citizens Center, and loved to cook.

Jane leaves behind one daughter, Lisa Fletcher (Larry) of Stanford; three brothers, Wayne McFalls and Jerry McFalls (Lynn) both of Kings Mountain, and Robert McFalls (Terry Adams) of Lexington; two grandchildren, Joshua Lee Ingram (Amber) of Kings Mountain and Dustin Ingram (Brittany) of Eubank; three great-grandchildren, Branstin, Aubrey, and Haley Ingram; four step-grandchildren, Ashley Fletcher, Matthew Foley, and Brittany Foley, and Greg Foley; nephew, Travis McFalls (April); niece, Tiffany McFalls-Smith (James Smith); and several other nieces, nephews, and cousins.

He was a veteran of the U.S. Navy attaining the rank of Seaman First Class. He was also a farmer. He was a member of the First 12 Mile Baptist Church in Alexandria, Ky. He was the widower of Thelma Ann Manning Hopkins who preceded him in death on August 24, 1994.

James (Buddy) Ledford, Jr.,age 89 of Danville formerly of Crab Orchard, Kentucky died Wednesday, June 18, 2014 at the Thomson-Hood Veterans Center in Wilmore, Kentucky. He was born March 20, 1925 in Crab Orchard. He was the son of the late James P., Sr. and Winnie Baker Ledford. He was a member of Lexington Avenue Baptist Church in Danville. He was a graduate of Crab Orchard High School Class of 1943. He was the only individual to have been a graduate, teacher, coach and principal of Crab Orchard High School. After graduation he entered the military in the middle of World War II. He was a 2nd Lieutenant in the U.S. Army who received a Purple Heart. After his military service he graduated from Eastern Kentucky University. He taught science at Crab Orchard from 1955-57 and then became principal in 1963. In 1968 he joined the Kentucky Dept. of Education where he worked for over two decades. After retirement he really enjoyed spending time with family and going fishing as much as possible.

Survivors Include; his wife, Sarah Carr Ledford,two Children, Butch and Wife Anne Ledford of Danville, Rita Sharon an Husband David Perkins. Three Grandchildren: D.J. Perkins, Julie (Kevin) Young, Jamie (Brandon) Collins, Four Great Grandchildren: Bostyn, Avery, Quinn & Blair, One Brother, John S. and Wife Jo Ledford of Frankfort

Myrtle Evelyn (Denney) Mullins, age 82, of Brad Petrey Road in Waynesburg, passed away Tuesday, June 3, 2014 at her residence.  Born Tuesday, August 25, 1931 in Lincoln County, she was the daughter of the late William Clarence & Latitia Neal Denney.  She was the widow of the late Everett Mullins, who preceded her in death December 11, 1987.  Myrtle was a homemaker and worked at Cowden’s Manufacturing for three years. She was a member of Friendship Baptist Church.  In her spare time, Myrtle enjoyed reading her Bible (which she had read many times through) cooking, gardening, was a big UK fan, and loved watching wrestling, especially John Cena.

Myrtle leaves behind one son, Charles Mullins (Jean) of Crab Orchard; two daughters, Patsy Dowell of Waynesburg and Phyllis Smith (Jeff) of Stanford; one brother, Henry “Bud” Denney (Wanda) of Waynesburg; four sisters, Martha Allene Hodge of Waynesburg, Pauline Harp (Don) of Durham, North Carolina, Alice Louise Bailey of Mt. Sterling, and Mary Reynolds of Eubank; 14 grandchildren; 26 great-grandchildren; and one daughter-in-law, Wanda Mullins of Crab Orchard.

Richey (Mary) of Waynesburg, KY, one daughter: Laura Richey of Hustonville, KY, one sister of the heart: Marilyn Williams (Ted) of Dearborn, MI, ten grandchildren, fifteen great-grandchildren, and numerous nieces and nephews. Laura Pearl Southerland Wilson, 92 of Butchertown, died Thursday, May 29, 2014.

Born March 8, 1922, she was the daughter of the late Sid and Ethel Shepperson Southerland. She was a member of Friendship Baptist Church and was a homemaker.

She is survived by a daughter, Shirley (Mike) Bachelor of Butchertown; 2 sons: Allen (Tanzey) Cutter, of Kansas and Tommy Joe (Carol) Cutter, of Richmond; a brother: Buddy (June) Southerland,
of Butchertown; 2 sisters: Edith Terrell, of Moreland and Agnes Angel, of Kansas; 7 grandchildren; 12 great-grandchildren and 2 great-great grandchildren.

Services will be at 2 p.m. Saturday at Friendship Baptist Church by Bro. Stacy Wilson with burial in Butchertown Cemetery. Visitation is after noon Saturday. Pallbearers are Doug and
Jeff Denham, Shane Lynn, Jerrid Cutter, Tyler Denham and Mike Maddox

March 15, 1957 – May 27, 2014

Donna Faye Bryant Yocum, 57, of Kings Mountain, Kentucky, passed away Tuesday, May 27, 2014 at Ephraim McDowell Regional Medical Center.

She was born in Letcher County, Kentucky on March 15, 1957, daughter of the late Mitchell and Anna Whitaker Bryant. She attended Family Worship Center in Waynesburg.

She is survived by two daughters, Tanya & (Tim) Fields of Eubank and Jennifer Sebastian of Kings Mountain, long-time companion, Bill Wall, two brothers, Wayne & (Phyllis) Caudill of Dayton, OH and Gene & (Betty) Bryant of Somerset, three sisters, Judy & (Ken) Nothstein of Eubank, Sara "Binky" & (Jack) Jacobs of Waynesburg and Jennifer Bryant & (Richard Fowler) of Bryantsville, KY, three grandchildren, Mitchell Jones, Makayla Johnson and Nathan Sebastian, brother-in-law, Elb Blair of Lodi, OH, sister-in-law, Gale Bryant of Science Hill, a host of nieces, nephews, great-nieces, great-nephews and a closeness to her extended family.

She was preceded in death by her parents, two brothers, Jr Bryant and James Charles Bryant, four sisters, Shirley Ashley, Billie Blair, Brenda Bryant and Janie Bryant and brother-in-law, Robert Ashley.

A funeral service will be held at 1 PM Saturday, May 31, 2014 at Family Worship Center in Waynesburg, KY with Bro. Dave Harris and Bro. Steve Gates officiating.

Burial will be in Friendship Cemetery in Waynesburg, KY.

Visitation will be from 6 PM to 9 PM Friday at the Family Worship Center.
