Earl R. Benton, age 87, of KY Hwy 1247 in Waynesburg, passed away Thursday, November 27, 2014 at Ephraim McDowell Regional Medical Center in Danville.  Born Thursday, January 6, 1927 in Caney (Morgan County), Kentucky, he was the son of the late Carl & Myrtle Gibson Benton.  His loving wife is Rebexie Caudill Benton of Waynesburg, whom he married January 29, 1949.  Earl worked as a school teacher for Lincoln County for 30 years in the Waynesburg community.  He was a member of the Waynesburg 328 F&AM, a US Army Veteran, and loved to pass time at the Waynesburg Rescue Squad where he was known for being a good Rook player.  His main hobby was farming and he was of the Old Regular Baptist faith.

In addition to his wife, Earl leaves behind three children, Teresa Sharon Bingham (Jim) of Indianapolis, Indiana, Marvin Eugene Benton (Deloris) of Middletown, Ohio, and Kathryn Brown (Lonnie) of Waynesburg; three sisters, Eva Lee Lykins of Northern Kentucky, Rella Barrett (Don) of Indiana, and Sue Hosmer (Harley) of Owensboro; seven grandchildren; two step-grandchildren; 12 great-grandchildren; and six step great-grandchildren.

In addition to his parents, he was preceded in death by one son, Jesse Clark Benton; four brothers, Charles, Elwood, Lonnie Ray, and Ivan Benton; two infant brothers; and two sisters, Oleta Sorrell and Levota Oligee.

A Funeral Service will be held 2:00PM Sunday, November 30, 2014 at Barnett & Demrow Funeral Home with Bro. David Gambrel officiating the service.   Burial will follow in Leach Cemetery on Rocky Hollow Road in Waynesburg.  Military honors will be performed by the Caswell-Saufley Post #18 of the American Legion.  Tommy Engle, Bobby Benton, Brandon Sanders, Doug May, Norman Rutheford, and Clinton Sims will serve as Active Pallbearers.

The Visitation will be held 5-9PM Saturday, November 29, 2014 at the funeral home.  A Masonic Service will begin at 8:00PM.

Edward "Jack" Blevins, 82, of Crab Orchard, passed away on December 14 at Lake Cumberland Regional Medical Center. He was a member of Friendship Baptist Church.

Jack was born in Lincoln County on May 25, 1932. He was the son of the late Melvin and Robeda (Ping) Blevins. He was a farmer.

Survivors Include: his companion of 24 years: Bonnie Watson, Children: Joann Dillingham, Darlene Brock, Vera & Husband Michael Elam,Kay & Husband Danny Cole of Texas, Nila Tucker, Randall & Wife Carla Blevins of Texas, Glenna & Husband Craig Baugh, Arlis Blevins, Jackie Lee & Wife Shannon Blevins of Texas, Nafen Blevins & Robert Blevins. 28 Grandchildren and 43 Great Grandchildren, a sister: Marie Hurst, brothers: Robert, Curtis, Doug, and Johnny Blevins

Thelma L. Bryant, 92, passed away Monday, November 10, 2014 at Fort Logan Hospital in Stanford, KY. Born January 31, 1922 in Stanford, KY to the late Jesse B. and
Minnie Sue Robinson Lawrence, she was the widow of the late Charles William Bryant.

She was a graduate of Stanford High School and was a business owner and farmer for most of her life. She was a member of D.A.R., Homemakers, a member of Farm Bureau,
and enjoyed working as a precinct worker. She was also a member of Stanford Christian Church.

Survivors include one son: Larry Bryant, one daughter: Beverly Sue Ballow, one sister: Dorothy Lawrence Robbins, six grandchildren: Charles Ray Helm, Kimberly Miller both of Louisville, KY, Angelia Wix (David) of Lancaster, KY, JJ Bryant of Somerset, KY, and Larry and Lexi Bryant both of Lexington, KY, nine great-grandchildren, two great-great-grandchildren, and several nieces and nephews. In addition to her parents and her husband she was preceded in death by one sister: Gladys Lawrence Childress.

Visitation will be held at Spurlin Funeral Home Chapel; Stanford on Thursday, November 13, 2014 from 5-9pm.

Funeral service will be at the funeral home on Friday, November 14, 2014 at 11am with Reverend Mark Thompson officiating. Burial will follow at Buffalo Springs Cemetery in Stanford, KY.

He was born on April 19, 1944 in Crab Orchard, Ky. to the late Joe and Gertie Greer Buchanan. He was a retired meat cutter, having worked with Thriftway in Jeffersonville for forty years.
Survivors include his wife, Mary C. Emmons Buchanan of Madison, Indiana; his loving son, Jeff Buchanan and his wife, Tammy of New Albany, Indiana; his loving daughter, Diana Buchanan of Louisville, Kentucky; his grandchildren, Kendall and Taylor; his mother in law, Josephine Emmons of Madison, Indiana; his step sons, Jason Thompson of New Albany, Indiana, Jesse Thompson of Madison, Indiana, Jeremy Yocum of Palmyra, Indiana, Michael Yocum of Palmyra, Indiana, Tony Emmons of New Albany, Indiana; his sister, Betty Ross of Salem, Indiana; his brother, Joey Buchanan of Columbus, Indiana; his five step grandchildren, several nieces, nephews and other relatives.

He was the husband Doris Blankenship Cartee whom he married on July 3, 1982. Norman was born June 16, 1936 in Fort Dodge, Iowa.

 

He was the son of the late Julia Garrett Connor and Charles Cartee. He was a member of Ephesus Baptist Church. He was a veteran of the U. S. Marine Corp.

He was a retired Welder for Bailey Machinery Movers. He loved the outdoors and really enjoyed trapping.

Survivors Include: wife, Doris Cartee, daughter, Sandra Denese Cartee Smith

Two Grandchildren, Ana Elizabeth Smith and Gregory Scott Smith, two Step Daughters, Tammy Ogle and Diane Kraft

Daisy Irene Clark, age 77, of Cordier Lane in Stanford, passed away Saturday, October 18, 2014 at her residence.  Born Saturday, May 29, 1937 in Kings Mountain, she was the daughter of the late Fred & Mabel Southerland Davis.  She was the widow of the late Green Clay Clark, who preceded her in death April 1, 2001.  Irene worked as a seamstress at Cowden’s Manufacturing, was a homemaker, and was a member of Pentecostal Fellowship Church in Lancaster.

Irene leaves behind four children, Irvin Clark (Beverly “BeBe”) of Tallahassee, Florida, Meta Sinkhorn (Ricky) of Junction City, Huston Clark (Amy) of Stanford, and Roger Clark of Stanford; four sisters, Edith Salyers of Casey County, Ann Chambers, Sue Padgett, and Regina Lane all of Lancaster; one brother, Jackie Davis of Somerset; 15 grandchildren; 28 great-grandchildren; and one great-great grandchild.

In addition to her husband and parents, she was preceded in death by one brother, William Roy Davis.

Honoring Irene’s wishes, Cremation Rites have been honored.  A private burial will take place at Camp Nelson National Cemetery.

Born March 24, 1970 in Somerset, KY to David Burton Coppage and the late Barbara Jean Ledford, he was a truck driver and a member of the Pentecostal faith.

In addition to his father survivors include one brother: David Bruce Coppage Sr. (Connie Elizabeth) of Stanford, KY, four nieces: Stephanie Acree, Heather Parker, David Bruce Coppage, Jr., and Brandon Coppage, and four great nephews. He was preceded in death by one sister: Lisa Ann Robertson.

A one day service has been scheduled for Saturday, November 8, 2014 at Spurlin Funeral Home Chapel, Stanford. Visitation will be from 11am-2pm with funeral service beginning at 2pm. Burial will follow at Buffalo Springs Cemetery in Stanford, KY.

Bernice Shell Crowe, 82 of Junction City passed in her sleep on Wednesday, Nov. 5, 2014.

Born April 27, 1932, she was the daughter of the late James Bradley and Lela Mae Lawhorn Shell. She was a retired LPN.

Bernice was preceded in death by her husband, Henry Crowe. She is survived by two sons, Michael (Vickie) Crowe of Hustonville and Chris (Rosa) Crowe of Parksville; three daughters: Kelly (Robert) Duncan, Dana (Jesse) Long , and Terri (James) Carmichael, all of Junction City; one brother, Mitchell Shell of Russell Springs; 15 grandchildren and 13 great grandchildren.

Services will be at 11 am, Saturday at W.L. Pruitt Funeral Home by CSM Jesse Long with burial in Hustonville Cemetery. Pallbearers are grandsons: Jesse Lee Long, Tevin, Justin, James, Anthony and Travis Carmichael and Johnathon Crowe. Visitation is 6-9 pm, Friday.

Born August 14, 1927 in Crescent Springs, KY to the late Barney and Mary Hurst Davis, he was the widower of the late Doris Davis. He was a WWII Veteran having served in the United States Navy and a member of the International Operating Engineers Union Local 181. He was also a member of Stanford Baptist Church.

Survivors include two daughters: Shanna Peck of Danville, KY and Barbara Terry (Johnny)of Stanford, KY, six grandchildren, two great-grandchildren, and several nieces and nephews. In addition to his parents and wife, he was preceded in death by two daughters: Susan Teater and Connie Davis Hale, five brothers, and three sisters.

A one day service has been scheduled for Thursday, December 18, 2014 at Spurlin Funeral Home Chapel, Stanford. Visitation is from 11am-1pm with funeral service beginning at 1pm. Reverend Stewart Dawson will be officiating the service. Burial will follow at Buffalo Springs Cemetery in Stanford, KY.

Angie Cottrell Denham, 93, of Danville, KY passed away Thursday, November 27, 2014 at Ephraim McDowell Regional Medical Center in Danville, KY. Born June 11, 1921 in Lincoln County to the late Les and Willhelender Brown Cottrell, she was the widow of the late Walter W. Denham. She was a homemaker for most of her life and babysat for numerous children for over 20 years. She was also a member of the Church of Christ.

Survivors include two sons: Vernon L. Denham (Violet) of Louisville, KY, and Leslie T. Denham (Rosalyn) of Waynesburg, KY, two daughters: Joyce Davis (James E.), and Angela Denham both of Danville, KY, two daughter-in-laws: Linda Denham and Gayle Denham both of Stanford, KY, one sister: Ida B. Denham of Stanford, 17 grandchildren, 34 great-grandchildren, several great-great-grandchildren, and several nieces and nephews. In addition to her parents and husband, she was preceded in death by two sons: William E. Denham and Harold M. Denham, and one brother: James Cottrell.

Visitation will be Sunday, November 30, 2014 from 5-8pm at Spurlin Funeral Home Chapel, Stanford. Funeral service will be 1pm Monday, December 1st, 2014 at the funeral home with Brother Louie Hammons officiating. Burial will follow at Buffalo Springs Cemetery in Stanford, KY. Ruby Sears Drury, 77, of Stanford died Saturday at Golden Living Center in Stanford. She was born Aug. 7, 1937 in Moreland, KY to the late Joe Wheeler Sears and Mary Johnson Sears. She was a member of Butchertown Baptist Church.

Survivors include two sons, Joe Scharbrough of Haskell, OK and Eddie Scharbrough of New Mexico; a brother, Dawson Sears of Danville, two sisters, Evie Downs of Harrodsburg and Elsie Kidd of Danville; a special niece, Cynthia Taylor of Stanford; 10 Grandchildren, 13 Great-grandchildren and several nieces and nephews.

A graveside service will be held Monday, Dec. 15, 2014, at 11am at Moreland Cemetery. Reverend Jay Mumper will be officiating the service.

Victoria Dunn, 57, of Crab Orchard, Kentucky born May 18, 1957 departed this earthly home into "Eternal Life" Thursday, December 4, 2014 at the Ephraim McDowell Medical Center in Danville, Kentucky.

She was the daughter of Beulah Mae Nelson Dunn and the late Calvin Dunn.

She was a member of the First Baptist Church and was a former church clerk.

Vickie accepted Christ at an early age and worked in the church until her health began to fail. Even though she never had children of her own, she always took an interest in others children and loved to spoil them. Her favorite song was midnight cry.

She was preceded in death by her father Calvin Dunn, maternal grandparents Arthur and Birdie Owsley Nelson, paternal grandparents Charles and Sula Dunn.

Victoria leaves behind a family that loved her dearly. Her loving and devoted mother Beulah Mae Dunn. Four Aunts and Two Uncle and a hosts of relatives and friends and a special friend Judy Whitaker.

Robert Lee Edwards, 67, of Stanford, KY passed away Saturday, November 22nd, at Fort Logan Hospital. He was the husband of Deborah Noble Edwards whom he married on May 6, 1978.

Robert was born in on October 23, 1947, a son of the late Florence Ethel (Hicks) and Frank Edwards. He was a member of the Watts Chapel Baptist Church where he has served as Pianist, Sunday School Teacher as well as Vacation Bible School Teacher. Robert also served on the Budget Committee for the Lincoln County Baptist Association. He was a former Councilman for the City of Crab Orchard. He was the current Chairperson of the Lincoln County Planning and Zoning Commission. Being a graduate of Crab Orchard High School and Eastern Kentucky University, he dedicated his entire thirty seven year career to the Kentucky Department of Transportation where he worked as a review appraiser. As active as Robert Lee was, his pride and joy was spending time with all of his family and church family.

Survivors Include: his wife: Deborah Noble Edwards of Stanford, Three Children: Lisa Edwards Hensinger and Husband William of Lexington, KY

SSgt. Craig Evans, 58, passed from this life Sunday, November 23, 2014.  He graduated from Ohio University in 1979 with a bachelor’s degree in business.  Craig was SSgt. In the United States Air Force for 17 ½ years, serving our country as an Electronic Warfare Tech, Stateside as well as Seoul, South Korea, and during Desert Storm in Saudi Arabia.  Craig’s unit was attacked and bombed during the Khobar Towers attack.   Craig was also an employee of Corning Glass in Harrodsburg, KY, for 11 years, as a sheet glass operator.

Craig was preceded in death by his parents, Captain Delmar H. Evans of Winston-Salem, North Carolina and Francis Evans of McClain, Virginia.

Craig was a member of Crosswell Baptist Church Sumter, South Carolina and attended Pilot Baptist Church in Eubank.  He was an avid reader of the Old Testament and enjoyed sharing what he had learned with his family. Craig is survived by his wife, Sarah Ruth Falconberry Evans, whom he married on January 30, 1986; his three children, (son) Johnathan Craig Evans of Lake Charles, Louisiana, (son) Caleb Creed Evans of New Orleans, Louisiana, and (daughter) Katelyn Martha Evans of Eubank.

A Funeral Service will be held 11:00AM Saturday, November 29, 2014 at Pilot Baptist Church in Eubank, with Bro. Aaron D. Hogue officiating the service.  Burial will follow in Cress Cemetery.

She was the wife of Ray Frith, whom she married December 29, 1951. She was born November 9, 1929 in Lincoln County, Kentucky and was the daughter of the late Brack C. Ledford, Sr. and Etta Irene Ballard Ledford. She previously attended the Dix River Church of Christ.

Ethel was a former employee of Palm Beach. Most of all, she was a loving Wife, Mother, Sister &Grandmother.

Survivors include: her husband of 51 years, Ray Frith, twin daughters, Regina Meece, Ramona (Doug) Snyder, four sons, Gary (Barbara) Ledford, Tommie (Tammy) Frith, Timmie (Martha) Frith, Jeffery (Missy) Frith. Hannah, age 82, of Elkins Rogers Road in Kings Mountain, passed away Monday, October 6, 2014 at the Christian Care Center of Lancaster.  Born Monday, August 8, 1932 in Casey County, he was the son of the late Roy Russell & Virgie Taylor Hannah.  His loving wife was Vivian Faye Williams Hannah, of Kings Mountain, whom he married December 17, 1953.  Clyde was a farmer, US Navy Veteran, serving during the Korean Conflict, and was a member of Indian Creek Baptist Church.  In his spare time, he enjoyed fishing and quilting.

In addition to his wife, Clyde leaves behind one son, Mark Hannah (Janice) of Wilmore; one sister, Mary Helen Singleton of Kings Mountain; three granddaughters, Heather Holder (Tom) of Lexington, Tiffany Vaughn (Ethan) of Georgetown, and Krissie Butler (Mark) of Wilmore; and five great-grandchildren.

In addition to his parents, he was preceded in death by two brothers, Ottis Clinton Hannah and William Ray Hannah; two infant brothers; two sisters, Lucy McMullin and Charlotte McQueen; and one infant sister.

T.J. "Jeff" Hill, 55, of Stanford, KY died Thursday, November 20, 2014, at his home.

He was born October 3, 1959 in Stanford, KY to Nancy Ann Miller Hill and the late T.J. Hill III. He was the widower of Cindy Snow Hill.

T.J. was a lifelong member of the New Beginnings United Methodist Church as well as a current member of the church's board of trustees. He was a graduate of Lincoln County High School and Texas A&M University. At the time of his death, he was a Member of the Lincoln Masonic Lodge #60, member of the Lexington Consistory Scottish Rite, Chairman of the Lincoln County Democratic Party, chairman for the Stanford E.M.S. board of directors, treasurer and board member of the Foundation for the Historical McCormack Meeting House, Incorporated. T.J. was an army veteran; leaving the service with the rank of Captain. He was a member of the Caswell Saufley Post#18 American Legion, he was past Master of the Lincoln Masonic Lodge #60, past president of the Stanford Rotary and he was a former U.S. Deputy Marshall.

On November 4, 2014, T.J. was elected Mayor of Stanford. He would have taken office on January 1, 2015.

Survivors include his son, Thomas Hill V; his mother, Nancy Miller Hill; his sister Carol Hill, all of Stanford, KY; his mother-in-law, Deanie Snow of Kings Mountain, KY; a sister-in-law, Sandra Snow Kline (James) of Lancaster, KY; a maternal Uncle, Jim Ed Miller of Pecos, TX; a maternal Aunt, Carol Jean Kelley (Bill) of Dallas, TX; and numerous other relatives and friends.

Visitation will be Tuesday, November 25, 2014, from 4:30pm to 9pm and Wednesday, November 26, 2014, from 10am to time of funeral service of 1pm at the Stuart Underwood Auditorium, Lincoln County High School, 60 Education Way, Stanford, KY. Emma Wells Meade, age 81, of Choctaw Trail in Stanford, passed away Saturday, November 22, 2014 at Ephraim McDowell Fort Logan Hospital in Stanford.   Born Tuesday, February 7, 1933 in Smilax (Leslie County), Kentucky, she was the daughter of the late Jason & Annie Vanover Wells.  She was the widow of the late James E. “Ed” Meade, who preceded her in death June 16, 2013.  Emma was a devoted homemaker and mother.  She was a member of Parlor Grove Baptist Church and member of Order of Eastern Star.  She loved to cook and loved flowers.

Emma leaves behind two sons, Donald R. Meade (Gina) of Moreland and Ronald L. Meade of Somerset; two daughters, Sharon S. Meade McWhorter (Kim) of Hustonville and Debora A. Meade Lasure (Jeff) of Stanford; two brothers, Homer Wells (Evelyn) of Huntington, Indiana and James Wells (Lois) of Smilax, Kentucky; three sisters, Melda Fields of Lebanon, Indiana, Lela Howard of Oliver Springs, Tennessee, and Lillian Downey (George) of Kenansville, Florida; six grandchildren; four great-grandchildren; and her special K9 companion, Abby.

In addition to her husband and parents, she was preceded in death by one granddaughter, Haley Michelle Lasure; three brothers, Archie Wells; Hershell Wells (infant) and Earl Wells (infant); and four sisters, Georgie Eversole, Rosa Lee Depoy, Grace Wells (infant), and Pearl Wells (infant).

In addition to her parents she was preceded in death by two brothers: Curtis Wayne Clark and David Clark.

Westley Rimer, age 67, of Cherry Hill Road in Waynesburg, passed away Saturday, November 15, 2014 at his residence.  Born Sunday, November 9, 1947, in Denver, Colorado, he was the son of the late Arnold Oliver & Lenora Fleming Rimer.  His loving wife is Laura Mae Sims Rimer of Waynesburg, whom he married July 14, 2005.  Westley worked and retired in Law Enforcement as a Border Patrol Officer.  In his spare time, he loved to fish and to build things.

In addition to his wife, Westley leaves behind three daughters, Kristen Hall (Chris) of Caledonia, Mississippi, Amanda Rimer (Anthony Delgado) of El Paso, Texas, and Laura Mae Ortega (Danny) of San Antonio, Texas; one step-son, Danny Rowe (Tracy) of Highland; one step-daughter, Brandy Correll (Richard) of Kings Mountain; one brother, David Rimer (Judy) of Fort Collins, Colorado; eight grandchildren, Christina Vasquez, Evan Hall, Savannah Ortega, Ariella Ortega, Alyssa Juarez, Jadelyn Delgado, Heaven Delgado, and A.J. Delgado; and five step-grandchildren, Ciera Rowe, Judea Correll, Tristan Hess, Laythum Rowe, and Jaelyn Rowe.

Curtis H. Wheeler, 68, of Stanford, KY passed away Sunday, October 12, 2014 at Christian Care Center in Lancaster, KY. He was born January 10, 1946 in Cincinnati, OH to the late Earl and Alma Gerkey Wheeler. He was the widower of the late Terri Wheeler.

Survivors include six siblings: Larry, William, Charles, Marlyn, Mary, and Thresa, several nieces and nephews, a special lady: Mabel, and a special thanks to Keith and Barbara Young for their faithfulness in his love and care. In addition to his parents and wife, he was preceded in death by one sister: Artie Godbey and one brother: Chester Wheeler.

A one day service has been scheduled for Thursday, October 16, 2014 at Spurlin Funeral Home Chapel, Stanford. Visitation will be from 12pm-2pm with funeral service beginning at 2pm. Reverends Hobert Byrd and Tom King will officiate the service. Burial will follow at Mount Moriah Cemetery in Highland, KY.

Glenwood Wilkinson was born February, 14, 1934 in Casey County (Indian Creek). On Thursday, October 9, 2014 God saw fit to call him from our midst at the age of 80.

He accepted Christ at an early age at Pine Lick Baptist Church, Mount Salem, Kentucky. He worked at various jobs in his life and his favorite being driving "Big Rigs". This job he retired from (Smith Transfer) after driving many years.

He leaves to cherish his memory his loving, faithful, and patient wife: Lovester Simpson Wilkinson, three sons: Jerry (Rosalyn), Stephone (Carol), and Garry (Julie), four daughters: Patricia Welch, Debra Owsley, Darlene (Troy) Warner, all of Stanford, KY, and Glenda (Ray) Granville, of Lexington, KY. He also leaves behind a brother: Sherman (Bettie) Wilkinson of Georgetown, KY, three sisters: Naomi Barnes and Doris Jean Anderson both of Lexington, KY, and Lillie Mae Miller of Stanford, KY, nineteen grandchildren, eight great-grandchildren, and a host of nieces, nephews, relatives, and friends. He was preceded in death by his parents: Silas & Christine Wilkinson, two sisters: Mary Elizabeth Alcorn, and Linda Lou Ross, and one son: Curtis Lee Young.

Visitation will be Sunday, October 12, 2014 from 5-8pm at Spurlin Funeral Home Chapel, Stanford. Funeral service will be held at the funeral home at 12pm Monday, October 13, 2014 with Elder Jerry Wilkinson and Reverend Dennis Miller officiating. Burial will follow at Buffalo Springs Cemetery in Stanford, KY.

Willie Wilson, 54, of Hustonville, KY passed away Sunday, October 26, 2014. Born April 28, 1960 in Irvin, KY to the late Ivan and Geraldine Lutes Wilson, he worked as a factory worker and farmer for most of his life. He was a member of the Pentecostal Faith and enjoyed riding his motorcycle and spending time with his family.

Survivors include his wife of 29 years: Anita Wilson of Hustonville, KY, two step-sons: Brent Campbell (Amanda) of Cumberland, RI, and Darren Campbell (Kisha) of Stanford, KY, four sisters: Joann Richardson of Irvin, KY, Patricia Hurley of Jackson, KY, Darlene Ballard of Stanton, KY, and Loretta Mackey (Jerry) of Irvin, KY, five grandchildren, and a host of extended family and friends. In addition to his parents, he was preceded in death by one brother: Lonnie Wilson.

Visitation will be Thursday, October 30, 2014 from 5-9pm at Spurlin Funeral Home Chapel, Stanford. Funeral service will be 2pm Friday, October 31, 2014 at the funeral home with Reverend Bill Ross officiating. Burial will follow at New Salem Cemetery in New Salem, KY.

She was the daughter of the late Phillip and Eva Hendrickson Rice. She was a member of Crab Orchard Church of God. She was a loving mother, grandmother, sister and homemaker.
