Irene Taulbee Fletcher Adams, 87, of Deland, Fla., formerly of Crab Orchard, died Sunday, June 3 in Florida.

A native of Clay City, she was born March 16, 1920 to the late Oscar and Martha Taulbee. She was the widow of James Fletcher.

Survivors include a stepson, Earl Adams of Deland, Fla.

A memorial service was held Sept. 6 at the Lancaster Cemetery with Bro. Dan Gutenson officiating.

Cecil Ellington Allen, Jr., 75, of Annandale, Va., formerly of Crab Orchard, died Saturday, Oct. 6.

A native of Crab Orchard, he was born Dec. 10, 1931 to the late Cecil and Nila Allen. He was a 1950 salutatorian of the Crab Orchard High School; 1959 graduate of the University of Kentucky; civil service worker from 1959 to 1989 having worked in Honolulu, Hawaii, Fort Worth, Texas, Saigon, Bangkok, Thailand, the Philippines, and the Pentagon; and a veteran of the Air Force.

Survivors include his wife, Kim Nogoc Allen of Virginia; daughter, Cathy Allen of Virginia; two brothers, Marvin Allen of Lanesville, Ind., and Jesse Allen of Albuquerque, N. M.

A memorial services was Oct. 9 in the Chapel of National Funeral Homes in Falls Church, Va. Private family interment will take place in the National Memorial Park

STANFORD - Joseph G. Blair, 65, of Waynesburg, died Tuesday at St. Joseph Hospital.

Born Sept. 27, 1941, in Lincoln County, he was a son of the late Gilmore and Julia Stickler Blair. He was a former teacher, principal and superintendent in the Lincoln County school system.

He also was a Baptist, a member of Lincoln Lodge No. 60 F&AM, and state and Lincoln County beef cattle associations. He was appointed to former Gov. Wallace Wilkinson's Advisory Council on Early Childhood Education and the commission on Federal Funding for Education Chapter 2.

Survivors include his wife of 46 years, Juanita Allen Blair of Waynesburg; a son, Joseph Gilmore Blair Jr. (Jan Rose) of Waynesburg; and a brother, Landis Ray Blair of Waynesburg.

Services will be 3 p.m. Friday at Spurlin Funeral Home by the Rev. David Gambrel. Burial will be in St. Sylvester Catholic Church Cemetery.

Pallbearers will be Stuart Underwood, Jimmy Hazlett, Mike Candler, Larry Lewis, Clinton Sims, Shannon Hatter, Harold McLaren and Bob Duff. Honorary pallbearers are Kenny Allen, David Allen, Doug Shilot, Mike Shilot, John Sims, Tom Blankenship and Ralph Roberts.

Susan Ann Magruder Brashear, 46, of Stanford, passed away Sunday, Oct. 14, 2007, at her residence.

Born Tuesday, Aug. 15, 1961, in Indianapolis, Ind., she was a daughter of Fred and Verna Magruder of Lexington. She was a homemaker, an avid University of Kentucky football and basketball fan, loved horseback riding, camping and the outdoors.

In addition to her parents, survivors include her husband, Steve "Catfish" Brashear of Stanford; three daughters, Hannah Beatrice Brashear of Stanford, and twins, Melissa Ann (David) Crowe of Stanford and Stacy Marie Brashear of Danville; mother-in-law, Barbara Brashear (Bennie) Engle of Stanford; four sisters, Debra (Stephen) Drosick of Lexington, Cindy (John) Wemyss of Los Altos, Calif., Kathy (Butch) Walker of Paintsville, Ky., and Sarah (Brian) Lyle of Alexandria, Va.; two sisters-in-law, Vicki Brashear of Stanford and Cindy Brashear of Atlanta, Ga.; brother-in-law, Barry (Winifred) Brashear of Stanford; six grandchildren, Mikey, Kennedy and Steven Crowe, Jaylon and Leigha Brashear, and Caydon Yates; and nine nieces and nephews.

Funeral services will be 11 a.m. Wednesday, Oct. 17, at Preston-Pruitt Funeral Home with Minister Mike Crowe officiating. Burial will be at Danville Memorial Gardens.

Pallbearers will be Neal Johnson, Tony Wilson, Randy Moser, Greg Franklin, Roger McQueary, Kenny and Seth Taylor, Bryan Walker and Mike Tharp. Honorary pallbearers will be Chuck Geiger, Barry Brashear, David Crowe and members of the Brothers Code Motorcycle Club.

Justin Broughton, 22, of Crab Orchard, died Thursday Oct. 4 at the St. Joseph Hospital in Berea.

A native of Garrard County, he was born May 27, 1985 to Ricky and Rita Miles Broughton of Crab Orchard. He was a farmer.

He was preceded in death by his maternal grandmother, Margaret Miles; paternal grandfather, James Arthur Broughton; and a sister, Rachael Broughton.

Other survivors include two sisters, Kayla Hunt and Shaina Broughton, both of Lancaster; a brother, Chad Broughton of Crab Orchard; maternal grandfather, Arthur Miles of Waynesburg; paternal grandmother, Evelyn Broughton of Crab Orchard; one niece, Kassidy Hunt; and one nephew, Jonah Broughton.

Funeral services were Oct. 8 at the Paint Lick Church of God with Bro. John Manuel officiating. Burial was in Stringtown Cemetery in Cartersville.

Active pallbearers were Chris Burns, Ryan Hunt, Michael Saylor, Craig Broughton, Steven Jones, and Kerry Naylor.

LONDON - Bobby Joe Burton, 58, of London, Ky., passed away Wednesday at his residence.

He was born Aug. 21, 1949, in Stanford, Ky., to the late Delbert and Rosa Mae Burton.

Survivors include his wife, Aline Wesley Burton; two daughters, Tammy Marcum and husband Teddy of East Bernstadt, Ky., and Lisa Sams and husband Mike of Berea; two brothers, Herner and J.B. Burton, both of Stanford; and three grandchildren, Jordan and Jacquelin Marcum and Madelyn Sams.

Bobby was a professional horse trainer at the Snuffy Smith Stables and a member of West London Baptist Church where he served as deacon.

Funeral services will be 2 p.m. Sunday at West London Baptist Church with the Revs: Bill Mays and Johnny Thompson officiating. Burial will follow in the Laurel River Cemetery in London.

Visitation will be after 5 p.m. Saturday at Bowling Funeral Home.

STANFORD - Walter Carrier, 86, of Okeechobe, Fla., died Saturday.

He was born in Stanford to the late Robert and Rosa Carrier and was the widower of Mary I. Carrier.

Survivors include his sons, Luther Carrier of St. Petersburg, Fla., and Allen Carrier of Goshen, Ore; stepdaughters, Sandra Creech of Okeechobee, Song Parmalee of Silver Springs, Fla., and Jacqualine Hoy of Akron, Ore.; 12 grandchildren; numerous great-grandchildren; and two great-great grandchildren; brothers, Robert, Ronald and Donald; and sisters, Elizabeth, Toni, Mary Frances, Deliah, Opal and Jean.

Shirley Ann Daugherty, 61, of Lancaster, died Wednesday, Oct. 10 at the Ephraim McDowell Regional Medical Center in Danville.

A native of Lincoln County, she was born Nov. 8, 1945 to Reba Ellison Short of Stanford and the late Ray Short. She was a retired teacher having taught in Harlan County seven years, Pulaski County four years, Kenton County five years, and Lincoln County High School 17 years, and was a member of Harrodsburg Church of God and Kentucky Artist Guild.

She was also preceded in death by a brother, Jimmy Short.

Other survivors include her husband, Glenn C. Daugherty; son, David (Tonya) Daugherty of Lancaster; daughters, Deanna (Jon) Henderson of Lancaster and Donna (Mike) Hall of Cleveland, Tenn.; brothers, Ronald (Shannon) Short of Stanford and Paul (Janice) Short of Tampa, Fla.; sister, Kathyleen Andrews of Cullman, Ala.; seven grandchildren; and several nieces and nephews.

Funeral services were Oct. 14 at the Danville Church of God with Revs. Richard Ussery, Floying Thompson, J. David Stevens, Wendell Johnson, and Mike Hall officiating. Burial was Oct. 15 in the Danville Memorial Garden.

Active pallbearers were Harold Mullins, Mike Hall, Jon Henderson, David Daugherty, Christian Daugherty, Brennen Henderson, Seth Henderson, and Hezekiah Daugherty. CRAB ORCHARD - Jerry Day, 63, of Stanford, Ky., died Thursday, Sept. 27, 2007, at his home.

Born Sept. 28, 1943, in Leslie County, Ky., he was the son of the late Floyd and Martha Sizemore Day. Jerry was a faithful member of Dix River Church of Christ. He loved fishing, camping and bird hunting.

Jerry was the husband of Ruth Browning Day, whom he married April 20, 1960, and from their union came six children: three sons, Tommy (Cissie) Day of Crab Orchard, Ky., Benny (Sharon) Day of Stanford, Ky., and Homer Lee (Brenda) Day of Stanford, Ky.; three daughters, Martha (Tim) Frith of Crab Orchard, Ky., Missy (Jeff) Frith of Stanford, Ky., and Judy (Scott) Weaver of London, Ky. Other survivors include a sister, Judy (Moss) Lewis of London, Ky.; three brothers, Homer (Bertha) Day of Crab Orchard, Billy Ray (Peggy) Day of Wooten, Ky., and Donneil (Sarah) Day of Corbin, Ky.; a special brother-in-law, Freddie Browning of Stanford; 16 grandchildren; and seven great-grandchildren.

He was preceded in death by his parents, Floyd and Martha Sizemore Day; two sisters, Laura Hogg and Leona Eaton; and two brothers, Jimmy and Thomas Day.

Funeral services will be held 2 p.m. Sunday, Sept. 30, 2007, at McKnight Funeral Home Chapel by Bro. Virgil Horseman and Bro. Paul Baker. Burial will be in Dix River Church of Christ Cemetery.

CRAB ORCHARD - Mark Dwayne Farris, 47, of Nicholasville, formerly of Crab Orchard, died Sunday, Sept. 23, 2007, at Central Baptist Hospital.

He was the husband of Edith Ann Wireman Farris, whom he married June 20, 1980.

Born Sept. 14, 1960, in Cincinnati, Ohio, he was the son of Kathy Turpin King and the late James "Sonny" Farris. He was a member of the Trinity Full Gospel Church in Lexington and an employee of Jackson Plastics in Nicholasville.

Survivors include his wife of 27 years, Edith Ann Wireman Farris of Nicholasville; two daughters, Sarah Kay (Hassell) Halcomb and Mercedes Lynn Josey Farris, both of Nicholasville; his mother, Kathy (Hayden) King of Lexington; two brothers, Rocky (Teresa) Farris and Jimmy Farris, both of Crab Orchard; and two sisters, Mary Ann (Jimmy) Irvin and DaRae (Steve) Marcum, both of Lexington. He was preceded in death by his father, James "Sonny" Farris, and a brother, Destry Shane Farris.

The funeral will be 2 p.m. Thursday at McKnight Funeral Home Chapel by the Rev. Glenn Doss. Burial will be in Crab Orchard Cemetery.

Visitation will be after 5 p.m. Wednesday.

STANFORD - Dolly Sims Foley, 95, of Stanford, passed away Saturday, Sept. 8, 2007, at the Golden Living Center in Stanford.

Born June 28, 1912, in Casey County, she was a daughter of the late Virgil and Edna Hill Sims. She retired from Palm Beach Co., was the former owner/operator of Foley Grocery and was the oldest living member of Locust Grove Baptist Church.

Survivors include two daughters, Shirley Mullins of Stanford and Gladys (J.C) Sowers of Nicholasville; a sister, Alene Wilcher of Indiana; five grandchildren; nine great-grandchildren; and five great-great-grandchildren. She is preceded in death by her husband, Loren Foley; a daughter, Geraldine Foley; a son-in-law, Darrell Mullins; three brothers, Raymond, Kellis and Kenneth Sims; three sisters, Virginia Jewel, Annabelle Henry and Ramona West; and one great-grandson, Jason Mullins.

Funeral services will be 2 p.m. Monday, Sept. 10, at Fox Funeral Home with the Rev. John Dean officiating. Burial will be at K.P. Hall Cemetery.

James A. Gastineau, 88, of Freetown, Ind., died Thursday, Oct. 11, at Hospice of South Central Indiana, Columbus.

Mr. Gastineau was born Dec. 10, 1918, in Winfield, Tenn., the son of the late Luther and Ida Campbell Gastineau.

On April 20, 1937, in Highland, Ky., he married Mae Edna Smith. He was a member of the Freetown United Methodist Church. He retired from Cummins in 1981 and was a farmer. He served in the Army during World War II.

Survivors include his children, James Clifford Gastineau, Waymon (Ruby) Gastineau, Mildred (Avis) Wingler, Arnold Gastineau, Loyd Gastineau and Carol Dixon; 14 grandchildren; 29 great-grandchildren; 15 great-great-grandchildren; and a sister; Fayrene Price.

Services will be 10 a.m. Monday, Oct. 15, at Voss Chapel in Seymour, Ind., with the Rev. Dave Ison officiating. A graveside service will be 3 p.m. Monday at Buffalo Springs Cemetery, Stanford, Ky.

Friends may call 2-6 p.m. Sunday and before the service on Monday at Voss Chapel.

CRAB ORCHARD - Jimmie T. Gover, 85, of Crab Orchard, Ky., died Friday, Sept. 7, 2007, at his home.

Jimmie was born Feb. 22, 1922, in Crab Orchard. He was the son of the late Wallace T. and Katie King Gover. He was a member of Crab Orchard Christian Church, American Legion and Crab Orchard Masonic Lodge No. 636 F&AM for more than 60 years. He was a farmer, horse show announcer, Realtor, auctioneer and owner of Gover Real Estate and Auction Co. He was a veteran of the United States Army having served in the Battle of the Bulge during World War II. He was a Purple Heart and Bronze Star medal recipient.

He was the husband of Mattie Stanley Gover, whom he married Oct. 23, 1949, and from their union is one son, James W. Gover of Crab Orchard; grandson, Grant Gover of Bardstown, Ky.; sister, Martha Gover Scott of Crab Orchard; nephew, Dave and wife Connie Daley of Cincinnati; and special family friend, Judy Slone of Pikeville, Ky. In addition to his parents, he was predeceased by a brother, Curtis K. Gover.

Services will be 2 p.m. Monday, Sept. 10, 2007, at McKnight Funeral Home by Brothers Dan Gutenson and Gary Story. Burial with military rites observed by the Caswell Saufley American Legion Post No. 18 of Stanford, Ky., will be in Crab Orchard Cemetery.

Casket bearers include Nelson Shelton, Lester Bryant, Bobby Turpin, Larry Allen, Bill Day and Humphrey Elliott.

CRAB ORCHARD - Velva Jewell Brown Harness, 91, of Crab Orchard, passed away Wednesday, Sept. 12, 2007, at Rockcastle Health and Rehabilitation Center in Brodhead. Velva was the wife of the late Cecil Harness who preceded her in death Jan. 17, 2002.

Born May 18, 1916, in Lincoln County, Ky., she was the daughter of the late William Bryant Brown and Stella Bastin Brown.

Survivors include three daughters, Bonnie Renner of Stanford, Ky., llene Nicholas of Middletown, Ohio, and Irene Petrey of Richmond, Ky.; a son, Swaney Wayne Harness of Batesville, Ind.; 14 grandchildren, 28 great-grandchildren; and three great-great-grandchildren.

She was preceded in death by her husband, Cecil Harness; a son, Louis Harness; sisters, Daisy Fowler and Lola Wren; a brother, Vernon Brown; and a granddaughter, Kathy Bryant.

STANFORD - Kenneth Lee Horn, 64, of Stanford, died Friday at his home.

Born July 6, 1943, in Lincoln County, he was a son of the late Truman and Viola Douglas Horn. He was a car transporter for the city of Melvindale, Mich., for more than 40 years, a member of Fairview Baptist Church and a member of Teamsters Local 299.

Other survivors include a son, Robert Horn (Kathleen) of Moreland; a daughter, Kelly Ann Horn of Lincoln Park, Mich.; a brother, Ralph Horn (Thelma) of Stanford; a sister, Francis Horn Adams Coulter of Stanford; a grandchild; and two great-grandchildren. He previously was married for 34 years to Sue Ann Walls Horn.

Services will be 2 p.m. Tuesday at Fairview Baptist Church by the Rev. Johnny Baker. Burial will be in Fairview Baptist Church Cemetery.

CRAB ORCHARD - Dale Bradford Hoskins, 42, died Sunday, Sept. 16, 2007, at his residence. He was the husband of Donnie Jean Shelton Hoskins, whom he married Jan. 27, 1995.

Born Aug. 17, 1965, in Mount Vernon, Ky., he was the son of Joe Hoskins and Janet Hoskins Frazier, both of Crab Orchard. He was a truck driver for Superservice in Somerset, Ky. He previously attended Crab Orchard Christian Church. His favorite hobby was riding his motorcycle.

Other survivors include a daughter, Annegillette Hoskins of Paris, Ky.; a son, Jimmy Dale Hoskins of Paris; three brothers, Gabriel Lee (Joey) Hoskins of Louisville, Ky., Mark Shannon Hoskins of Stanford, Ky., and Richard Douglas Hoskins of Crab Orchard. He was preceded in death by a daughter, Kayla Marie Hoskins.

Funeral services will be 1 p.m. Thursday at McKnight Funeral Home Chapel by the Rev. Gabriel Hoskins. Burial will be in Crab Orchard Cemetery.

STANFORD - Ray T. James, 79, of Stanford, died Monday at St. Joseph Hospital.

Born Nov. 29, 1929, in Rowland, Ky., he was a son of the late Jim and Emma Land James. He was a meat cutter for A&P for 22 years and former owner of Ray's Market in Danville and Ray's BBQ Pit. He was a member of Stanford First Church of God, Masonic Lodge No. 60 and Shriners Club.

Survivors include three sons, Larry James (Sandra) of Newburg, Ind., Jimmy James (Donna) of Port Matilda, Pa., and Danny James (Tammy) of Lexington; seven grandchildren; a great-grandchild; and several nieces and nephews. He was preceded in death by six brothers and three sisters.

Services will be 11 a.m. Thursday at Spurlin Funeral Home by Dr. Mike James. Burial will be in Buffalo Springs Cemetery.

LIBERTY - William Fred Jeffries, 86, of Erlanger, died Thursday.

Born March 15, 1921, in Hustonville, Ky., he was a son of the late Calvin T. and Wavie True Jeffries. He was a retired conductor for Norfolk Southern Railroad and a Navy veteran of World War II.

Survivors include his wife, Helen Cochran Jeffries; a son, William Carl Jeffries of Edgewood, Ky.; a brother, Charles Jeffries of Battle Creek, Mich.; and two grandchildren. He was preceded in death by a daughter, Freda Jeffries.

Services will be 2 p.m. Sunday at Bartle Funeral Home. Burial will be in Hustonville Cemetery.

James King, 60, of Lexington died Saturday, Oct. 13th in Lexington.

A native of Jellico, Tenn., he was born May 29, 1947 to the late Jay and Dexter Parton King. He was head mechanic at the Griffin Gate Marriott in Lexington.

He was also preceded in death by a brother, Connie Michael King.

Survivors include his wife, Mary Shannon; three sons, Jay S. Wilhoite of Georgia, Shane Vance of Richmond, and Shawn King of Lexington; a daughter, Charlene McLemore of Lexington; one brother, Stanley King of Lexington; and eight grandchildren.

She was born Sunday, Sept. 14, 1919, in Coal Creek, Tenn., to the late Roscoe and Bethalee Cantrill Derry. She was a member of Kings Mountain Methodist Church and a 1938 graduate of Memorial High School.

Lillian was a homemaker and enjoyed playing Bingo at the State Fair, gardening and baking during the holidays.

Survivors include three sons, Wayne McFalls and Jerry (Lynn) McFalls, both of Kings Mountain, and Robert McFalls of West Palm Beach, Fla.; a daughter, Jane (Art) Hibbard of Kings Mountain; a step-daughter, Mary Ruth Jones of Kings Mountain; two special nieces, Agnes Sims and Juanita Holt; three grandchildren, Lisa (Larry) Fletcher of Waynesburg, Travis (April) McFalls of Waynesburg and Tiffany (James) McFalls-Smith of Hammond, La.; three great-grandchildren, Joshua and Dustin Ingram, and Allison Smith; four step-grandchildren, Janet Clayborn, Joyce Cox, Darrell Jones and Marie Wesley; and six step-great-grandchildren. She was also preceded in death by four brothers, Roy, Howard, Vernon, and Ralph Moore; and a sister, Elsie Sanders.

He was a farmer and truck driver for more than 30 years having previously driven for Ryder Transportation. He loved car races and deep sea fishing. Born May 4, 1926, in Lincoln County, he was a son of the late J.R. and Lela McWilliams Taylor. He was a doorman for Spurlin Funeral Home for seven years and had been a barber in Stanford for 46 years and owner of Taylor's Barber Shop.

Survivors include his wife, Christene Stevens Taylor; a son, Gary L. Taylor (Betty) of Lawrenceburg; a daughter, Phylis Kitchens (Don) of Coco Beach, Fla.; a caring niece and nephew, Betty and Ted Baker of Danville; a brother, Paul Taylor of Louisville; five grandchildren; and five great-grandchildren.

He was preceded in death by his first wife, Lorene Taylor; three brothers and two sisters.

 He was a retired auto mechanic, auto body man, and school bus driver. He was a member of Disabled American Veterans. Services will be 3 p.m. Thursday at Green River Pentecostal Church by Mike Yocum and Rick Naylor. Burial will be in Wilcher Cemetery. Pallbearers will be Johnny Mack Brown, Lowell Coffman, Terry and Jackie Wilcher, Prentice Hubble and Don Poynter. Honorary pallbearers will be Dale Reed, Dewey Coffman, John Hasty, the Rev. Bill Phelps and the Rev. Ed Carman. Visitation is after 5 p.m. today at Green River Pentecostal Church. W.L. Pruitt Funeral Home is in charge of the arrangements.

HERSCHEL THEODORE WOODS, 70, of Crab Orchard, Ky., formerly of Cincinnati, died Monday. He was a foreman with General Electric and a security guard. Services: 11 a.m. Wednesday at McKnight-Martin Funeral Home, Crab Orchard. Visitation: 5 p.m. today at the funeral home.
