Harold E. Baker, 57, of Stanford, died Thursday, July 23 at his home.
A native of Leatherwood, he was born Feb. 1, 1952, to Mary
Belle Griffey Baker of Corbin and the late Arnold Baker. He was a truck driver,
mechanic,
owner of Freeway Express Trucking Company since 1985 and a Kentucky Colonel.
He was also preceded in death by a son, Eli Baker; and a brother, Arnold Baker, Jr.
Survivors include his wife, Martha Baker of Stanford; four
children, Eddie, Cody and Daniel Baker (fiance, Allison Lynn) of Stanford and
Amanda Baker (fiance, Ryan Woodall) of
Waynesburg; six brothers, Gene Baker of Carrollton, Charles Baker of Harlan,
Wayne Baker of Corbin, Rickey Baker of Burnside, Mike Baker of Stanford and Jeff
Baker of Bronston; four sisters,
Shirley France of Hazard, Sue DeHart of Burnside, Patsy Surgener of Eubank and
Kay Davidson of Science Hill; and several nieces and nephews.
Funeral services were July 26 at the Baker Farm, 3665 Hwy. 27 S., with Revs; Vola Brown and Jason Coulter officiating. Burial was in the Baker Family Cemetery.
Active pallbearers were Eddie, Daniel and Cody Baker, Ryan
Woodall, Jimmie Young, Bruce Fields, Kevin Holbrook and Morris Fallis. Honorary
pallbearers were Jack Hazlett, Jerry McAninch,
Gary Green, Kenneth Godby and Ron Fisher.

Danny Baugh, 57, of Danville, formerly of Kings Mountain, died Tuesday, July 7 at Ephraim McDowell Regional Medical Center in Danville.
A native of Waynesburg, he was born Nov. 1, 1951, to the late Lonnie and Opal Maurer Baugh. He was a plumber.
He was also preceded in death by a son; Daniel James Baugh; and a brother, Lennie Baugh.
Survivors include his wife, Cheryl Tackett Baugh; two
daughters, Sarah Baugh (Michael Perrin) of Danville and Crystal Waters of
Somerset; one son, George (LaTavia)
Gadberry of Atlanta, Ga.; three sisters, Alane Cress of Waynesburg, Adele Baugh
of Georgetown, and Diane Patera of Cicero, Ill.; six grandchildren, Courtney,
Daniel, Devon, Isaiah, Madison and
Tristan; and 10 nieces and nephews.
Funeral services were July 10 at Morris & Hislope Funeral Home in Science Hill with Bro. David Muse officiating.

STANFORD Nancy Woodall Bradshaw, 63, of Stanford died Wednesday at her home.
Born Oct. 13, 1945, in Ferguson, Ky., she was a daughter of
the late Julian Woodall Sr. and Mada Woodall, she was the owner of Gilliland's
Flower Shop Inc. She was a member of Stanford
Baptist Church, member and past matron of the Danville chapter of Order of
Eastern Star, past president of Lincoln County Band Parents, past member of
Stanford Architectural Review Board and the only Lincoln County resident to be a
delegate to the 1996 Republican National Convention.
Survivors include her husband of 45 years, John Rodman
Bradshaw Jr. of Stanford; four daughters, Amanda Bradshaw Lott of Richmond, Va.,
Kathy Bradshaw Murphy of Centreville, Va., Susan
Bradshaw Tomlin of Berea Ky., and Lynn Bradshaw Thompson of Richmond, Ky.; and
10 grandchildren. She was preceded in death by 12 brothers and sisters.
Funeral services will be 10:30 a.m. Saturday at Stanford Baptist Church with the Rev. Max Hester officiating. Burial will follow in Buffalo Springs Cemetery.
Casketbearers will be Bobby Edwards, Kenny Vaught, Brady
Vaught, Ronnie Deatherage, Mark Metcalf and Steve Patterson. Honorary Bearers
will be employees of
Gilliland's Flower Shop.

HARRODSBURG - Anita Kay Buchanan, wife of Cecil Buchanan, died Tuesday.
She was a native of Stanford and daughter of Jesse Wilson and Ann Castle Watts.

Bailey and Katie Buchanan, and a son, Jonathan (Carolyn) Buchanan, all of
Harrodsburg; two sisters, Rita (Nick) Darnall of Amelia,
Ohio, and Lodi (Nick) Lambert of Harrodsburg; a brother, Jeff (Stacy) Wilson of
LaGrange; and three granddaughters.
A celebration of life will be observed 7:30 p.m. today at Ransdell Funeral Chapel. Burial will take place at Mt. Pleasant Church Cemetery.

STANFORD William J. Bill Christen, 61, of Lexington, formerly of Hustonville, died Thursday.
Born Jan. 20, 1948, in Cleveland, Ohio, he was a son of the late William and June Morrell Christen. He was a financial planner and a Vietnam veteran.
Survivors include his wife, Pat Christen; and three sisters, Debbie Wilhelm of Solon, Ohio, Karen Smith and Bonnie Christen, both of Aurora, Colo.
Visitation will be 6 p.m. Sunday and services will be 7 p.m. Sunday at Stanford Presbyterian Church.

at Fort Logan Hospital. Jimmy was born on August 4, 1933 in Garrard County. He

was a member of Mt. Hebron Baptist Church.

MORELAND - George Woodson Ellis, 92, of Hustonville, died Thursday, Aug. 6.
Born April 26, 1917, in Casey County, he was the son of the
late Marshall and Arby Coppage Ellis. He was a farmer and a Baptist. He served
as treasurer for the Soil Conservation Board for
more than 60 years and was a member of Rocky Ford Masonic Lodge. He was preceded
in death by his wife, Louise Murphy Ellis.
Survivors include his daughter, Marilyn Ellis and her husband,
John Smothers; one son, Joe (Gloria Sue) Ellis; two grandchildren, Mary Alice
(Casey) Armstrong and Joey (Kay) Ellis; and two
great grandchildren, Todd Ellis and Kristin "Dollie" Ellis.
Services will be 2 p.m. Monday at W.L. Pruitt Funeral Home by Bro. Dwight Coffman, with burial in Hustonville Cemetery. Visitation is 5:30-9 p.m. today at the funeral home.

William Keith "Willie" Estes, 62, of Hustonville, died Friday, Aug. 21 at his home.
A native of Indianapolis, Ind., he was born April 24, 1947, to the late George William "Kink" Estes and Eunice Lucas Estes. He was a mechanic and a member of New Salem Baptist Church.
Survivors include a son, Keith Estes of Stanford; daughter, Paula Eldridge of Hustonville; brothers, Dale and Spud Estes; sisters, Kim Ann King and Jana Janine Alexander; and three grandchildren.
Funeral service were Aug. 24 at New Salem Baptist Church with Rev. John Penick officiating.

She is preceded in death by her husbands, George Edward Gaddis and George Frank Hanson.

Born Feb. 21, 1935 in Lincoln County to the late Lucien and Helen Marie Reed Jenkins, he was a farmer, a Navy veteran and of the Baptist faith.
Survivors include three sons, Randy Jenkins (Debbie) of
McKinney, Jeff Jenkins and Ralph Jenkins (Donna) both of Moreland; two sisters,
Dorothy Walters and Joyce
Carrier both of Stanford; five grandchildren; three step-grandchildren; and two

late Lawrence and Ruby Reynolds Johnson. He was a member of Oak Grove Church of
Christ, an Air Force veteran
and a retired construction inspector for the Army Corps of Engineers.

Born Oct. 20, 1918, in Lamont, Miss., she was the daughter of
Dr. John and Mary Wilson Baldwin. Mary Emma was predeceased by her husband of
more than 50 years, H.P. Kincaid.
She was a member of The Presbyterian Church and the Daughters of the American
Revolution.
Survivors include a son, Pat (Linda) Kincaid of Danville; a
daughter, Mary Kincaid (Harry) Johnson of Nashville, Tenn.; four grandchildren,
Patton (Rebecca) Kincaid of Madison, Miss.,

STANFORD William Bill Long Sr., 77, of Waynesburg died Tuesday at his home.
Born Sept. 25, 1931, in Lincoln County, he was a son of the
late Walter T. Bunch Long and Nettie Clark Long. He was a member of
Stanford Christian Church. He was a former
owner and operator of Long's Grocery and Furniture, retired from IBM in
Lexington after 26 years, worked at LexMark for two years and operated Long's
Flea Market. He was an Army veteran,
a member of the John Logan Post of the American Legion and a Mason.
Survivors include a special friend, Nellie Long; four children
Billy Long (Melenda) of Waynesburg, Kristy Yoder (Galen) of Nappanee, Ind.,
Roger Long (Twila) of Nicholasville and Donna Robbins
(Kevin) of Stanford; a brother, Harold Long of Danville; and a sister Doris
Noland of Stanford; eight grandchildren; and two great-grandchildren. He was
preceded in death by a grandson, William T.
Long; and two brothers, Walter C. and Freddie Long.

STANFORD- Larry S. Martin, 60, of Stanford died Friday, July 10, 2009, at Ephraim McDowell Regional Medical Center.
He was the son of the late Lloyd & Hallie Mae Floyd Martin. He was a retired factory worker for Square D, a U.S. Army veteran and a member of Green River Pentecostal Church.
He is preceded in death two brothers, James and Earl Martin.
He is survived by his wife, Linda "Dean" Brown
Martin; a son, Don (Erica) Martin; a daughter, Martina (Jeff) Brown; a brother,
John Martin; two sisters, Brenda Martin and Phyllis Pittman;
five grandchildren, Kacey, Karey, Waylon, Hallie and Jeffrey; and a step
great-grandson.
An Appreciation of Life service will be 2 p.m. Monday at Green
River Pentecostal Church by Bro. Rick Naylor. Burial will be in Buffalo
Springs Cemetery. Military honors will be provided by

She was the wife of Bert McGohon.
Born Jan. 11, 1939, in Lincoln County, Ky., she was a daughter
of the late Roscoe and Okie Hoskins Brock. She was former employee of American
Greetings in Danville and a
member of Crab Orchard Baptist Church.
Survivors include her husband, Bert McGohon of Stanford;
sisters, Joyce Dollins of Crab Orchard, Connie Laswell, Iris Coleman and Susan
(Paul) Wyler, all of Lancaster; nephews,

and several great-nieces and nephews.

department manager at Walmart in Stanford where he has been employed for more

CRAB ORCHARD - Steve Quinton, 48, of Crab Orchard, Ky., passed away Sunday, Aug. 2, 2009, at his home.
Born Jan. 27, 1961, in Pulaski County, he was the son of Maxine Dykes Quinton of Crab Orchard and the late Everet Wayman Quinton.
Other survivors include two brothers, Michael Quinton and Mark (Ellen) Quinton; a sister, Leasa (Johnny) Baker.

July 30, 2009, at his home. Born March 4, 1923, in Knoxville, Tenn., he was the
son of the late Grover Cleveland
and Haddie Knight Ray. He was a building engineer for the city of Baltimore. He
was a Seventh Day Adventist and a World War II U.S. Army veteran.
Survivors include his wife, Betty Sue Ray; three sons, Carl L.

STANFORD - Cliston Coy Reynolds, 81, of Kings Mountain died Tuesday at Thomson-Hood Veterans Center in Wilmore.
Born July 25, 1927, in Pulaski County, he was a son of the
late Murphy Thomas Reynolds and Corda Hays Dishon. He was an engineer with
Southern Railroad, where
he retired after 38 years. He had been a steam locomotive engineer for Tombstone
Junction Amusement Park after retiring from Southern Railroad. He was a World
War II
Army veteran and a member of Geneva Baptist Church.
Survivors include his wife, Fayma Reynolds of Kings Mountain;
a daughter, Rhonda Carter (Bill) of Elizabethtown; a brother, Roy Reynolds of
Stanford; two grandchildren,
Cynthia Collins (Joshua) of Glasgow and Pamela Wood (Matthew) of Elizabethtown;

daughter of Jeffery and Becky Marie Hodge Reynolds.
Survivors include three sisters, Mallery, Macie and Morgan
Reynolds; paternal grandfather, Sherman S. Reynolds; paternal great-grandmother,
Mamie Reynolds; maternal
grandparents, Herbert and Renda Marie Hodge; maternal great-grandparents, Ralph

Born Feb. 8, 1930, in Crab Orchard, Ky., he was the son of the
late Hugh Robert Rowland and Sophia Florence Gertrude Hacker Rowland. Lee was a
plumber,
carpenter, electrician and builder, spending most of his career building and
working on the buildings at Pioneer Playhouse. Lee was the widower of Rowena
Helen Howard Rowland. He was a NASCAR fan.
Survivors include his children, Robert (Reeda) Rowland, Rena
Rowland and Bill Rowland, all of Danville, Linda Morgan of Lexington, and Jean
(Larry) Barger of Manchester;
a sister, Betty (Lester) Scott of Bowling Green; 11 grandchildren; and 17
great-grandchildren.
The funeral service will be 11 a.m. Thursday at Pioneer Playhouse. Burial will be in Bellevue Cemetery.

Retired Army Major General, Zack C. Saufley, 78, died Monday, July 13 at the Thomson-Hood Veterans Center.
He was raised in Stanford by his parents, Henry Rowan Saufley
Jr. and Jessamine Church Saufley, and moved to Frankfort upon graduation from
the University of Kentucky.
He was educated at Virginia Military Institute and the University of Kentucky,
were he attained a Masters of Science in Agriculture Economics. He was also a
graduate of the
Command and General Staff College and the Industrial College of the Armed
Forces. His military service included serving as a Platoon Leader in the 40th
Infantry Division in
Korea in 1952 -1954, Company Commander in the 100th Division during the Berlin
Crisis 1961-1962, and over 30 years service in the United States Army Reserves
culminating
with promotion to Major General and Commander of the 100th Division. He retired
from the military in 1988. He served as Civilian Aide to the Secretary of the
Army from 1988
ρ 1994. His decorations include the National Defense Service Medal, UN Service
Medal, Korean Service Medal, U.S. Distinguished Service Medal, Kentucky
Distinguished
Service Medal, and Army Commendation Medal with Two Oak Leaf Clusters. His
civilian career began as a faculty member at the University of Kentucky in the
College of
Agriculture from 1957-1971. He was then appointed as a Vice President at Farmers
Bank & Trust Company and where he remained until 1988, eventually serving as
President
and CEO of Farmers Bank & Capital Trust Company, as well as President and
CEO of Farmers Capital Bank Corporation. From 1989 until 1995, he served with
Whitaker Bank
Corporation as Vice Chairman, and Chairman of the Board of State National Bank
of Frankfort. Upon retirement from banking, he operated Church's Grove Farm,
where he
achieved Master Conservationist status and won the national regional
Environmental Stewardship Award for innovative land conservation practices in
beef cattle farming.
He was also very actively involved in many civic and professional organizations
serving as Member, Trustee, Treasurer, Board Director or Board Chairman for
numerous
organizations including Lees College, Kentucky Bankers Association, Kentucky
Financial Institutions Board, Kentucky Military Affairs Commission, Ralph E.
Mills
Foundation, Kentucky Chamber of Commerce, Big Brothers/Big Sisters, Boy Scouts,
Salvation Army, Rotary Club, University of Kentucky Business Partnership
Foundation,
Kentucky Independent College Fund, Kentucky Military Museum Committee,
Commonwealth Small Business Development Corporation and Kentucky Economic
Development Finance Authority. He received numerous awards including the
University of Kentucky Distinguished Alumnus Award, appointment to the Kentucky
College of Agriculture's Scovell Society, Governor's Outstanding Kentuckian
Award, Frankfort Community Development Award, Frankfort United Way Leadership
Award, Society of Van Meter Fellows, Lee's College Presidential Fellow,
University of Kentucky Fellow, and The Leesonian Award.
He was married for 52 years to the former Yvonne Yates of
Lexington. He is survived by his wife, Carol Singleton Saufley; two brothers,
Henry Rowan Saufley III
(Barbara) and George E Saufley II (Connie); four daughters, Jessamine Saufley,
Claire Lancaster (Ken), Carrie McNamara (Robert), and Jennifer Keith (Timothy);
one son, Zack "Church" Saufley Jr. (Susan); seven grandchildren; five
step-grandchildren; and one great grandchild.
Funeral services will be held Friday, July 17 at 2 p.m. at the
South Frankfort Presbyterian Church, 224 Steele Street, and a grave side service

CRAB ORCHARD - Blanche Hopkins Saylor, 95, of Crab Orchard
died on Thursday, July 23, 2009 at the Ephraim McDowell Hospital. She was the
wife of the late Jackson
"Jack" Saylor Jr. She was born on May 8, 1914, to the late Ewell and
Ellen (Saylor) Hopkins. Blanche was a member of the Oak Grove Church of Christ.
She was a loving
mother, grandmother, sister and friend.
Survivors include two sons, Truman Saylor and Tommy Wade
(Rosie) Saylor; a daughter, Linda Dowell; a brother, Johnny Hopkins; a sister,
Eunice Causey; 29
grandchildren; and several great-grandchildren and great-great-grandchildren.
She was preceded in death by seven children and 14 brothers and sisters.

Born May 23, 1917, in Lincoln County, she was a daughter of

Samuel Edward Saylor, a
homemaker, a member of Mount Hebron Baptist Church and a past member of WMU.

five great-grandchildren;

Ky., passed away Wednesday, Aug. 12, 2009, at Saint Joseph Hospital in
Lexington. He was the
husband of Margie Weaver Speake, whom he married on Nov. 29, 1963.
Wayne was born Nov. 22, 1940, in Garrard County. He was the
son of the late Wayne E. and Margaret Denney Speake. He was a current councilman
for the City of Crab Orchard,
elected in 2006. He was a member of the Drakes Creek Baptist Church and a former
Sunday school teacher.
Survivors Include his wife, Margie Weaver Speake of Crab
Orchard; a son, Anthony Wayne (Robin) Speake of Waynesburg; a grandson, Justin
Wayne Speake of Crab Orchard;
two sisters, Peggy Holcomb of Florence and Georgia Harper; and a host of nieces
and nephews.

STANFORD Charline Whitaker Swope, 81, of Stanford, died Friday at Ephraim McDowell Regional Medical Center in Danville.
The widow of George Alfred Swope, she was born on April 21, 1928, in Redbird to the late Judge Sam E. Whitaker and Mary A. Saylor Whitaker.
She earned a degree in elementary education from Eastern
Kentucky University and was a teacher and librarian. She taught at schools in
Mercer and Lincoln counties from
1948-1951. She was the first curator of the William Whitley House State Shrine
from 1952-1957 and welfare director and secretary for Lincoln County Fiscal
Court from
1957-1967. In 1967, she returned to teaching and was a librarian and third- and
fourth-grade teacher before her retirement in 1987.
She was a supporter of the International Fellowship of
Christians and Jews, and Samaritan's Purse. Charline was the pianist of Calvary
Hill Baptist Church for 18 years. She
was a member of Stanford Baptist Church and the adult choir.
Survivors include a daughter, Myra Swope Munday of Stanford;
four sisters, Pauline Wall of Danville, Aline Hail of Benton, Laura Whitaker
Durham of Mount Vernon and
Loretta Whitaker of Paducah; a brother, Samuel Earl Whitaker of Columbus, Ohio;
and a grandson, George Swope Munday. She was preceded in death by a brother, S.
Harold Whitaker.
Funeral services will be 11 a.m. Monday at Spurlin Funeral Home Chapel with the Rev. Max Hester officiating. Burial will be in Buffalo Springs Cemetery.
