Marshall Absher, 74, of McKinney, died Wednesday, March 17 at his home in McKinney.

Born Jan. 8, 1936, he was a son of the late George and Mollie Absher.

Survivors include his wife, Betty Cox Absher of McKinney; two children, William (Melissa) Reed and Cheryl (Raymond) Holton; four step children, "Billy," Linda and Ruth Ann Reed all of Nicholasville and Brenda Reed of Eubank; five step grandchildren; four sisters, Odel Brim of Greensburg, Marie Holloway and Jean Perry of McKinney and Essie Lianeheart of Claysville; and four brothers, Joe (Jennett) Absher of Claysville, Kenneth and J.D. (Shirley) Absher of Hustonville and Marion (Katherine) Absher of Nicholasville; 18 nieces; and eight step nieces and nephews.

Funeral services were March 20 at McKinney-Brown Funeral Home in Liberty with Bros. Darrell Estes and Jerrett Brooks officiating. Burial was in Salem Cemetery.

Active pallbearers were Terry Absher, Cody Crowly, Jerrett Brooks, Steve Darring, Bud Brim and Greg Roberts.

LANCASTER — William Brockman, 61, of old Lexington Road, died Thursday at the Ephriam McDowell Medical Center.

He was the son of the late Alvin and Reta Glaser Brockman. William was an engineer for Kentucky Utilities for 36 years and he attended Forks of Dix River Baptist Church.

Surviving is his wife, Elaine Brockman; three sons, David (Sharon) Brockman of Virginia, Justin (Shae) Brockman of Nancy and Seth Elam of Crab Orchard; four daughters, Dawn (Steve) Petrill of Ohio, Dionne (Steve) Nichols of Virginia, Toyna (Darren) Pike of Stanford and Stacy (Bill) Eckley of Japan; a brother, James (Vicki) Brockman of Lancaster; two sisters, Bonnie (Tim) Donihi of Florida and Mary Beth (Michael) Flanagan of Texas.

He was preceded in death by a brother, Allen Joseph Brockman.

Services will be 2 p.m. Monday at Forks of Dix River Baptist Church with the Rev. Jerry Browning and Father Ralph Bieting officiating. Visitation is 4-9 p.m. today at Spurlin Funeral Home.

Burial will be in the Buffalo Springs Cemetery in Stanford. Pallbearers are Tom Barlow, Mike Duggins, Marion Fannon, Don Partain, John Moffet and Gilbert Tuggle.

MORELAND — Silas Ellis, 73, of Indianapolis, Ind., died April 1, 2010.

He was born Nov. 4, 1936, in Oneida, Tenn., and was preceded in death by his wife, Lillie Marie Griffin Ellis.

Survivors include a son, Jimmy Lee Ellis, and two daughters, Sheila Rose and Effie (Robert) Carey, all of Indianapolis; and four stepchildren.

Services will be 2 p.m. Saturday at W.L. Pruitt Funeral Home by Bro. Brad King, with burial in Hustonville Cemetery. Pallbearers will be Ronnie and Arnett Griffin, Jerry Fowler, Donald Brock and David and Gary Wayne King.

Viola F. Franklin, 82, of Junction City, died Thursday, April 8, 2010, at Ephraim McDowell Regional Medical Center. Born Friday, Dec. 2, 1927, in Lincoln County, she was a daughter of the late Ollie and Fannie Anderson Graham. She was a homemaker.

Survivors include daughters Wanda (Buddy) Anderson, Patricia (Ronnie) Hughes and Brenda (Tommy) Hair, all of Junction City, Roberta (Dale G.) Franklin of Danville, and Sherree (Olen) Isaac of Cincinnati, Ohio; eight grandchildren; and 13 great-grandchildren.

Mrs. Franklin was predeceased by her husband, Jay H. Franklin, and sons, Ruehl Thomas Franklin and Danny Ray Franklin.

An appreciation of life service will be 1 p.m. Tuesday, April 13, 2010, at Preston-Pruitt Funeral Home with Bro. Tim Noel officiating. Burial will follow in Bellevue Cemetery. Visitation will be 6-9 p.m. Monday at the funeral home.

STANFORD — Dorothy Stull Gooch, 92, of Kings Mountain passed away on Monday, April 19, 2010, at Charleston Health Care in Danville.

Born Tuesday, Oct. 30, 1917, in Lincoln County, she was a daughter of the late John Henry and Mattie Privett Stull. She was the widow of Arnold H. Gooch. Dorothy was former owner and operator of Stull & Gooch Grocery and worked at Patterson’s Store. She was a member of Kings Mountain United Methodist Church.

Dorothy leaves behind a daughter, Imogene Correll of Stanford; two brothers, Carlton and Raymond Stull, both of Kings Mountain; a sister, Lois Raby of Washington State; two grandchildren, Christy McGee and Stephen Correll; and three great-grandchildren, Matthew, Logan and Lance Correll; and two great-grand children, Elijah Martin and Tristan Correll.

Dorothy was preceded in death by her parents, husband and two brothers, Jasper and Elmer Stull.

A Remembrance of Life Service will be held at 11 a.m. Friday, April 23, 2010, at Fox Funeral Home, with the Rev. Don Scilley officiating. Burial will be in Pleasant Point Cemetery.

Pallbearers will be Matthew and Stephen Correll, Edward Raby, Bruce Stull, Scott and Harmon Beedy. Honorary pallbearers will be Logan and Lance Correll.

Audrey Bernice Goode, 79, of Georgetown, died Tuesday, March 23.

Born Nov. 22, 1930, in Lincoln County, she was a daughter of the late William Estel and Eva James French. She was a homemaker, an avid genealogy researcher, a University of Kentucky basketball fan and the widow of Joe Good.

She was also preceded in death by one brother and one sister.

Survivors include her daughter, Beverly Embry; grandson, Jason (Jennifer) Embry; one great grandchild; brothers, Donald (Jane) French of Indiana and Gerald and Tom (Diane) French of Michigan; sisters, Juanita Bennett of Ohio, Janice Walker and Carole (Otto) DiSanto both of Michigan and Gail (Jim) French of Florida; Aunts: Violet James of Stanford; Doris J. James (James) Hart. Other family members;  Eugenia Young, Margaret Lunsford, Eugene Good, Sue Osborne and Billy Good of Kentucky; and many nieces, nephews and cousins.

Private burial in Buffalo Springs Cemetery will be held at a later date.

Pauline Hatter, 88, of Walltown passed away on Sunday, April 25th, 2010 at her residence. Born on Wednesday, February 22nd, 1922 in Casey County. She is the daughter of Willie & Martha Sims Wall and the widow of William Terrell Hatter to whom she wed on July 25th, 1941 and shared 56 years of marriage together. She was a homemaker and member of Grove Ridge Baptist Church.

Pauline leaves behind her sons Lyndale “Dale” (Betty) Hatter of Cincinnati, Ohio, Raymond Hatter of Liberty, James (Stella) Hatter of Walltown; daughters Diane (Steve) Sims of Walltown, Joan (Don) Spears, Kay (Ron) Spears both of Cincinnati, Ohio, Reba (Murrell) Phillippi of Walltown, Wilma “Bunt” Floyd of Hurricane Ridge; a daughter-in-law Oca Hatter of Walltown; a sister Ella B. McQueen of Grove Ridge; 15 Grandchildren, 29 Great-Grandchildren, 8 Great-Great Grandchildren, several nieces and nephews and a host of friends.

Pauline was preceded in death by her parents, husband, and brothers Jack, Edd, Lawrence, Norman, Jake & Jesse Wall; sisters Mary Napier, Lillie Hatter and Elizabeth Brown; son John Hatter and daughter-in-law Madge Hatter.

CRAB ORCHARD — Mrs. Myrtle Irene Brummett Helton, 91, of Crab Orchard passed away Tuesday, April 6, 2010, at Rockcastle Regional Hospital.

She was the widow of John Walter Helton, who preceded her in death on Dec. 7, 2002.

Born June 11, 1918, in Rockcastle County, Ky., she was the daughter of the late Nathan and Sally Ann Bishop Brummett.

She was a member of West Brodhead Church of God, a commissioned Kentucky Colonel and an avid UK and Cincinnati Reds fan.

Survivors Include three daughters, Elizabeth Allen of Crab Orchard, Evelyn (Dave) Cooper of Springdale, Ohio, and Grace (Larry) Cooper of Cincinnati, Ohio; two sons, Jackie (Joyce) Helton of West Land, Mich., and Donnie (Tarina) Helton of Mount Vernon; two sisters, Edna Middleton of Crab Orchard and Mary Edith Coffey of Arlington Heights, Ohio; three brothers, Dale Brummett and Francis Brummett, both of Crab Orchard, and Bernard Brummett of Brodhead; 18 grandchildren; 18 great-grandchildren; and six great-great-grandchildren.

In addition to her husband and parents, Myrtle was preceded in death by two children, Mae Etta Wallen and Christine Harness.

Funeral services will be noon Friday, April 9, 2010, at McKnight Funeral Home Chapel by Bro. John Erwin and Bro. Terry Orcutt. Burial will be in Piney Grove Cemetery, Brodhead, Ky.

Ralph E. Hines, 47, Crawfordsville, died 9:52 p.m. Monday in St. Clare Medical Center. Mr. Hines had been a carpenter for Jim Bittle Construction and had previously worked for Jeff Rutan Plumbing. He was a member of the American Legion and served in the U.S. Army National Guard.

He was born Aug. 19, 1954 at Stanford, Ky. to George and Lucille Rector Hines. He married Carol Montgomery on Aug. 19, 2000 in Waynetown. She survives.

Also surviving are two daughters, Tausha and Stephanie Hines, both of Crawfordsville; two stepdaughters, Shlena Harwood and Stacy Harwood, both of Crawfordsville; two stepsons, Kevin Harwood and Derk Harwood, both of Crawfordsville; a brother, John, Crab Orchard, Ky.; and seven step-grandchildren. His parents, a brother and a sister are deceased. Funeral services are scheduled 1 p.m. Friday in Powers-Priebe Funeral Home, 315 S. Washington St., Crawfordsville, with the Rev. Nancy M. Hunn was called from her earthly home to her heavenly home on Sunday, March 28, 2010, at the Christ Hospital in Cincinnati.

Nancy was born Sept. 16, 1939, to the late Charles “Todd” Hunn and Mary Ann Givens Hunn of Stanford.

She was a 1958 graduate of the former Lincoln High School and later in life she moved to Cincinnati where was employed at the Princeton City School District for many years.

Nancy confessed a hope in Christ and became a devoted member of the Bethel A.M.E. Church in Cincinnati. She loved God, her church, family and friends. She was also a former member of the 50th Club and the Lincoln Heights Senior Citizens. She loved to travel, crochet and have fun. She had such a “giving” spirit.

Nancy was preceded in death by her loving daughter, June Warford; and two brothers, Charles Hunn Jr. and Donald Hunn.

She leaves to cherish her memories, three sisters, Dorothy Napier of Danville, Carol (Ernest) Smith and Emma Jarman of Cincinnati; a brother, James (Ethel) Hunn of Danville; a sister-in-law, Pauline Hunn of Stanford; and a host of nieces, nephews, cousins and friends.

Nancy’s chapter is completed, a page turned, a life well lived, a rest well earned.

Funeral services will be at noon Tuesday at Bethel A.M.E. Church in Lockland, Ohio. Visitation is after 11 a.m. at the church.

Her memberships included Milligan Memorial Presbyterian Church. She was born June 20, 1913, at Crab Orchard, Ky., to Leroy and Willia Rector Proctor. She married Joseph R. Keedy, June 14, 1930, at Crawfordsville. He is deceased. Survivors include two sons, Robert R., Crawfordsville, and David, Newbern, Tenn.; a daughter, Joan Webber, Imlay City, Mich.; nine grandchildren; and 15 great-grandchildren .

Tamala Joann Long "Tami", 50, of Ft. Meyers Beach, Florida, formerly of Stanford, met Jesus Wednesday, April 21, 2010 at Lee Memorial Hospital in Fort Meyers, Florida. She enjoyed fishing, horseback riding, walking on the beach, riding her scooter and spending time with great friends. She was a beautiful person and will be missed by many.

She is survived by her parents Wendell and Mazie Coontz Long of Stanford; beloved daughter Jacqueline Cortney Stamper Smith (Kevin) of Stanford; beautiful grandsons Trenton Ray Smith and Gavin Reece Smith; a brother Keith Long of Stanford; nieces: Heather Long Floyd and Keisha Long.

Visitation will be Sunday from 5-9, a "Celebration of Life' service will be 11 A.M. Monday at Spurlin Funeral Home Chapel. Pastors Ed Carmen and B.J. Taylor will be officiating. Burial will be in Buffalo Springs Cemetery.

He was a member of Watts Chapel Baptist Church and a former owner and operator for D&S Trucking.

Survivors include his father, Bud Martin of Crab Orchard; three children, Jimmy “Jimbo” Martin and companion Shiri Wilson of Pine Grove, Missy (Bruce) Smith of Danville and Michelle (Joe) Austin of Winchester; his first wife of 11 years, Linda Coffman of Danville; his second wife and companion for 30 years, Stanette Martin of Winchester; two brothers, Bobby (Sue) Martin and Dallas (Lisa) Martin; two sisters, Irene (Gary) Elliott and Patty Ray; four grandchildren, Brittny Everett, Krystal Smith, Zelina “Lucky” Austin and Jamie Martin; and one great-granddaughter, Leeann Everett.

George Daniel Miller, 89, died Friday, April 16 at Ephraim McDowell Regional Medical Center.

Born March 10, 1921, in Moreland, he was the son of the late William Miller and Georgia McGill Chandler. He was a farmer and a member of Allen Chapel A.M.E. Church, Moreland, where he served as church treasurer, steward and trustee.

Survivors include cousins Eddye Maye Faulkner of Danville, Joe McGill of St. Louis, Glenn Lewis of Lexington and Pamela Lewis of Louisville; a niece, Nancy Coulter of Danville; and other relatives and friends. He was preceded in death by his wife, Nancy Pauline Miller, and his brother, Roger Chandler Sr.

Funeral services will be 1 p.m. Tuesday at Allen Chapel Church by Rev. Everhart Walker with burial in Hilldale Cemetery.

Visitation will be after 11 a.m. Tuesday at the church.

Laura Mae Phelps, 88, Crawfordsville, died 1:05 p.m. Thursday in St. Clare Medical Center. Mrs. Phelps was a homemaker. She was a member of New Hope Church of God in Kentucky and attended Ottowa, Ky., schools.

She was born Sept. 21, 1915, in Lincoln County, Ky., to Eugene and Judy Brown Thompson. She married Albion Phelps on Dec. 26, 1934, in Kentucky. He died in 1983.Survivors include two sons, Robert, Jamestown, and Forrest, North Port, Fla.; a daughter, Norma, Crawfordsville; three sisters, Mary Patton, Frankfort, Martha Sweet, Liberty, and Marie Alcorn, Broadhead, Ky.; eight grandchildren; and several great- and great-great-grandchildren. WAYNESBURG —Norma Faye Salyers, 73, of Kings Mountain died Monday.

Born May 30, 1936, in Casey County, she was a daughter of the late Oscar and Ethel Wall Martin. She was the widow of Donald Salyers.

Survivors include eight children, Barry Salyers of Danville, Jerry Salyers of Lincoln County, Todd Salyers and Melissa Cornett, both of Stanford, Joyce Hamilton of Casey County, and Joan Ernst, Donna Salyers and LeAnn Jones, all of Lincoln County; a brother, Huston Martin; a sister, Carolyn Durham; 13 grandchildren; and seven great-grandchildren.

Services will be 11 a.m. Wednesday at Barnett & Demrow Funeral Home. Burial will be in Salyers Cemetery.

SMITH, Doug

August 23, 1934 - April 29, 2010

CRAB ORCHARD — Doug Smith, 75, of Stanford passed away Thursday, April 29, 2010, at University of Kentucky Chandler Medical Center in Lexington. He was the husband of Sandra Dyehouse Smith.

Born Aug. 23, 1934, in Garrard County, Ky., he was the son of the late James William and Lillian M. Campbell Smith. He worked as a farmer and was a former member of Crab Orchard Masonic Lodge No. 636. He was a member of Tennessee Walking Horse Breeders and Exhibitors Association and a member of Drakes Creek Baptist Church.

Survivors Include his wife, Sandra Jean Dyehouse Smith of Stanford; three sons, Douglas (Dixie) Smith of Stanford, Eddie (Ruth) Smith of Stanford and Mike (Vickie) Smith of Lancaster; two daughters, Karen Smith Cain and Donna Jean (David) Schmidt, both of Louisville; a sister, Roberta (Paul) Belcher of Cincinnati; a host of nieces, nephews and cousins; seven grandchildren, Jared, Misty, Cristen, Seth, Tessa, John David and Megan; and 11 great-grandchildren, Aiden, Taylor, Jacob, Levi, Sierra, Ethan, Alden, Brecken, Tamson, Noah and Londyn.

In addition to his parents, Doug was preceded in death by a brother, Henry Norman Smith.

Funeral serices will be 1 p.m. Saturday at McKnight Funeral Home Chapel by Bro. Kaywood Morris and Bro. Billy Estes. Burial will be in Crab Orchard Cemetery.

Pallbearers will be Dougie, Eddie, Tommy, Jared, John David and Seth Smith.

Honorary pallbearers will be David Oaks, Jack Haggard, John Sparks and Billy Hawley.

Visitation is after 5 p.m. today at McKnight Funeral Home.

STEPHENSON, Max Combest

February 20, 1921 - April 17, 2010

HUSTONVILLE — Max Combest Stephenson, 89, a lifetime resident of Hustonville, passed away on April 17, 2010.

Born Feb. 20, 1921, he was the son of the late Stanley Pruitt and Pauline Combest Stephenson.

Max grew up in Lincoln County and upon graduating from Hustonville High School, enrolled at Centre College and completed a degree there in 1942. He enlisted in the United States Army and served his country during World War II in Europe and N. Africa with an honorable discharge in 1945.

Upon returning to the United States, Max married Elzie Jenkins, a WW II veteran, of Louisiana. They returned to reside in Hustonville where Max was a mail carrier for about 34 years until retirement. He and Elzie were very active in their community, as well as longtime faithful members of Hustonville Christian Church.

Along with his wife, Elzie, Max is survived by a brother, Stanley; and his daughter, Susan Fitzgerald and her husband.

Services will be 1 p.m. Wednesday at Hustonville Christian Church with visitation after 11:30 a.m. Burial will be in Hustonville Cemetery.

Robert Paul Walrod, 77, of Stanford died Thursday, April 15, 2010 in Cincinatti, Ohio. He was born December 14, 1932 in Chicago, Illinois to the late Robert Walrod and Lillian Gosparlin Ickes. He was a machinist for 40 years at AB Dick Incorporated in Chicago, IL. He was an Army Veteran.

Survivors include his children, Cordula Walrod of Germany, Tony Walrod of Georgia, Robert Walrod of Chicago, Teri Beier (Mike) of Schaumburg, IL and Tommy Walrod of Chicago, IL; three grandchildren, Amanda Walrod, Jessica and Kitt Beier; an uncle Daniel Gosparlin (Gwen) and special cousins, Pati Bucwald and Mark Hipps.

Visitation will be Sunday from 5-8, service will be 1 P.M. Monday at Spurlin Funeral HOme with Father Tobias officiating. Burial will be in Buffalo Springs Cemetery in Stanford. Caswell Saufley Post# 18 American legion will be presenting Military Honors.

April 14, 1909-June 14, 2002 Leona Wilson, 93, Crawfordsville, died 4:30 a.m. Friday in her home. Mrs. Wilson was a member of One Way Pentecostal Church.

She was born April 14, 1909, at Crab Orchard, Ky., to Mr. and Mrs. James Turner. She married Homer Wilson. He died Oct. 12, 2002. Survivors include a daughter, Christine Cox, Crawfordsville; a son, Cecil, Long Beach, Miss.; 18 grandchildren; 24 great-grandchildren; and six great-great-grand children. A daughter, Doris Davis; a son, Bobby Joe; a brother, Charles Turner; and two sisters, Haley Deck and Rissie Keller are deceased.

 Funeral services are scheduled 10 a.m. Monday in Hunt and Sons Funeral Home, 107 N. Grant Ave., with the Rev. Dan Aldrich officiating. Burial will be in Oak Hill North Cemetery. Friends may 2-6 p.m. Sunday in the funeral home.
