Walter Lee Adkins, 74, of Preachersville passed away Thursday, July 10, 2008 at
his residence. Walter was born in the Sand Gap community, in Jackson County,
Kentucky,
on September 30, 1933. He was the son of the late Jim and Martha
(Alcorn) Adkins.
Walter
is survived by several nieces and nephews and many friends.
He
was preceded in death by his Brothers, Ira, Earl, Mike and Eli Adkins; and His
Sisters, Mary, Susie, Ruthie and Gladys.

Jean Baker, 65, of Hillcrest Drive, Danville, died Sunday, September 6, 2009, at
Ephraim McDowell Regional Medical Center.
Born Sunday, February 27, 1944, in Boyle County, she was a daughter of the late Walter Mack and Sara Margaret Robinson Shearer.
Barbara
was a member of First Baptist Church. She was very artistic and enjoyed reading,
making crafts and bead necklaces, collecting Boyd’s Bears, and listening to
gospel music,
particularly the Gaither’s. Barbara was a retired employee of
American Greeting. She was the valedictorian of her 1962 Class at Danville High
School.
Survivors
include: her husband, whom she wed on November 15, 1966, James “Jim” Thomas
Baker II of Danville; one son, James “Jimmy” Thomas Baker III of Danville;
three daughters,
Rebecca “Becky” Anne Wood, Barbara “Barbie” Jeanne
(Christopher) Cooley, and Stephanie Michelle (Michael) Ridge, all of Danville;
mother-in-law, Hazel Gertrude Baker of Danville;
brothers, Tony Ray (Purnie)
Shearer of Lincoln County and Walter Mack (Sue) Shearer, Jr. of Mackville; one
sister, Sara “Penny” Margaret (David) McCarty of Campbellsville; nine
grandchildren, Abby, Ashaley, T.J., Sam, Kristofer, Savannah, Ty, Sara, and
Jasmine; and uncles, Billy and Joe Robinson.
Funeral
services will be conducted at 11 a.m. Thursday, September 10, at the
Preston-Pruitt Funeral Home in Danville with Rev. Tim Mathis officiating. Burial
will follow in Danville Memorial Gardens.
Visitation
will be from 6-9 p.m. Wednesday at the funeral home.

Michelle Barnes, longtime Advocate employee, dies.
LANCASTER -- Services for Michelle Booth Barnes, 40, of Hurt Lane, will be 2
p.m. Wednesday at Spurlin Funeral Home by the Revs. Mel Bonner and Bobby
Brookes.
Burial will be in Lancaster Cemetery. She died early Monday at Garrard
County Memorial Hospital of an apparent heart attack. Barnes had worked in the
composing department of
The Advocate-Messenger for 20 years. "Michelle was
a gem. She was cheerful, dedicated, reliable and an integral member of a team
who will sorely miss her," said Mary Schurz,
editor and publisher of the
Advocate. Co-workers remember her homemade fudge, her fondness for anything
featuring Mickey Mouse, and her seasonal vests, especially those for Halloween
and Christmas.
Born Nov. 1, 1958, in Lincoln County, she was a daughter
of Wanda Bolton Booth of Lancaster and the late Ted Booth. She was a member of
Drakes Creek Baptist Church in
Preachersville. Other survivors include her
husband, Nicki Barnes; two sons, Scott and Bradley M. Barnes, both at home; and
a daughter, Jennifer M. Barnes, also at home;
Michael Pruett, who lives with the
family; and a twin brother, Mitchell Booth of Preachersville. Pallbearers will
be Marty and Brad Record, Michael Pruett, Kenneth Yocum,
Dale Wells and Larry
Barnes. Honorary pallbearers are Jason Hardwick, Daniel Day, Robert Floyd, Chris

Medical Center. She was born September 23, 1948 in Crab
Orchard, Kentucky. She
was employed in the assembly department at Worthington Plastics in Mason for 20
years. Brenda was a member of the Freewill Christian Baptist
Church and enjoyed
working in and making her yard beautiful with flowers.
Preceding her in death were her father, Louis Simpson; two infant children and grandson, Nick Spencer.
She is survived by
her husband of 21 years, Wayne Birch, Sr.; step daughters; Tammy (Larry) Parker.

WAYNESBURG — Glenda Rae Blevins, 61, of Waynesburg, passed away on Tuesday, Feb. 28, 2012, at University of Kentucky Medical Center, Lexington.
Born Monday, Jan. 29, 1951, she was the daughter of Charles Homer and Elise Evelene Chandler Ball.
Glenda was the widow of Robert William Blevins. She will be
remembered for her loving nature and she was a wonderful mother and grandmother.
She was a member of
Liberty Baptist Church on Ky. 328. She was a training manger
for Dollar General Stores and the manager of the Mount Vernon Dollar
General Store.
Glenda leaves behind her sons, Robert “Bob” Blevins of
Pendleton, Ind., Charles Michael (Katie) Morgan of Science Hill and David Justin
Blevins of Waynesburg; daughters,
Ida Ellen (Allen) Roberts of Harrodsburg,
Stephanie Lynn (Patrick) Olson of Bemidji, Minn.; brothers, Michael Ball of
Anderson, Ind., and Victor Ball of Waynesburg; a sister,
Sharon (Lonnie) Gooch
of Eubank; and grandchildren, Corey Morgan, Gabriel Creech and Leopold Morgan.
Glenda was preceded in death by her daughter-in-law, Martha Blevins, and her brother, Chuck Ball.

Scott Bruner, 45, of Crab Orchard, died Tuesday, Nov. 22, at his home after a
courageous battle with cancer.
Born Aug. 22, 1966, in Danville, David was a son of Joyce Faye Martin and the
late David Bruce Bruner. He was a career long-distance truck driver, an avid UK
basketball fan
and a member of Watts Chapel Baptist Church.
He
was also preceded in death by a son, Cash Carpenter; maternal grandparents,
Albert and Della Mae Whitaker; and paternal grandparents, Walker Bruner and
Virginia Brooks Dennis.
Other survivors include his wife, Dora Bruner; sons, Andrew (Melissa) Bruner,
Kelvin (Ashley) Taylor and Mickey Taylor; sisters, Leisa Bruner, Sharon
(Charlie) Cruse and Kim Bruner
Estes; a brother, Shane (Vickie) Simpson; and
stepfather, Wayne Martin.

Western KY University in 1983, he was a horse trainer and was a member of the
Stanford Baptist Church.

Dickhaus. He was a heavy equipment operator and a U.S. Army veteran.

Velma Gibson Elliott, 94, of Hustonville died Saturday, February 26, 2011.
Born April 29, 1916 in Elk Valley, TN, she was the daughter of the late Timothy and Bertie Chambers Gibson.
She
graduated from Hustonville High School in 1934 and Eastern Kentucky University
in 1957. She taught school in Casey and Lincoln counties for 30 years, retiring
in 1972.
She has been a member of Hustonville Baptist Church since 1931. During
those years, she led the Royal Ambassadors, Girl’s Auxiliary and Women’s
Missionary Union, and also
taught Sunday School and Vacation Bible School
Classes from pre-school through the Senior Ladies Class and training Union.
After retirement, she became a member of the Garrard-Lincoln
Gideon’s
Auxiliary and served as an officer in every position.
She married the late Elmer Elliott, Sept. 18, 1943 in Portsmouth, Virginia and was the caregiver for her father, mother and husband for 26 years.
Velma
is survived by: one son, Michael G (Jenny) Elliott of Harrodsburg; 2
grandchildren, Amy (Michael) Tracy of Hustonville and Chase Cunningham of
Winchester; and two
great-grandchildren, Landen and Michaela Tracy.
Services were conducted Wednesday, March 2, at the Hustonville Baptist Church by Bro. Jonathan Grizzell with burial in Hustonville Cemetery.
Pallbearers were Paul D. Bodner, Stanley Burris, Ronnie Boyle, Marty Broaddus, Marvin Lane, Gary Douglas and Paul Long.

Born June 16, 1938, in Crab Orchard, she was the daughter of the late Hubert and Mayvy Wells Dishon. She was a member of Brodhead Christian Church and a self-employed beautician for 41 years.
Survivors include her husband, Merrill Gastrich of Okeechobee;
a son, Steve Rice of Crab Orchard; three grandchildren, Erica Rice, Keaton
Lunsford and Louis Rice; two
great-grandchildren, Destiny and Michael; a

- A Stanford man died Tuesday night after a single-car crash near Waynesburg.
The vehicle driven by George L. Hampton, 44, left the
roadway and struck a tree
after rounding a sharp curve about a mile and a half into Ky. 1781 East. Lincoln
County Coroner Farris Marcum pronounced Hampton
dead at the scene about 10 p.m.,
Marcum said. “He was probably traveling at a high rate of speed, the road was
wet, and there have been several
bad accidents in that curve,” Marcum said.

Highland, died Saturday at his home.
Born Aug. 16, 1924, in Lincoln
County, he was the son of the late Noah G.and Georgia Hill Young
Hutchison.
He was a former manager of the
Louisville Store in Danville where he worked for 23 years and manager at
Shillito's department store in Lexington for
three years.
He was a member of Highland
Methodist Church and served as Sunday school superintendent for more than
10 years. He was a member of Franklin Masonic
Lodge 28 in Danville for more
than 40 years. He served in the U.S. Marine Corps during World War II and
was awarded two Purple Hearts.
Survivors include his wife,
Louise Pendigraph Hutchison; two sons, Joe V.and Don L. Hutchison, both of
Highland; a daughter, Linda Kimberlin of Fort
Worth, Texas; a brother,
Dailey Hutchison of Louisville; a sister, Mayme Cordier of Louisville; six
grandchildren; and four great-grandchildren.
Services will be 2 p.m.
Tuesday at Highland Methodist Church by the Revs.Dennis Spencer and Norman
Young. Burial will be in Highland Methodist
Cemetery with military rites by Caswell Saufley Post 18 of
the American Legion.
Visitation will be 6-9 p.m.
Monday and after 8 a.m. Tuesday at the church.Fox Funeral Home is handling

Born April 15, 1925, in Chilton, Ky., she was a daughter of the late George P. and Lenora Atwood Cochran. She was a retired teacher and the widow of William Fred Jeffries.
Survivors include a son, Carl Jeffries of Edgewood; and two grandchildren, Kathryn Jeffries of New Bern, N.C., and Elizabeth Keith of Ryland Heights. She was preceded in death by a daughter, Freda Jeffries.

A native of Boyle County, he was born May 21, 1953 to Cora Ellen Johnson Privett and the late Melvin Lee Johnson. He was a farmer and a member of Faith Temple in Jesus Name Church.
He was also preceded in death by a brother, Mike Johnson.

Laticia Ryan Massengale, 80, of Seymour, died at 10:50 a.m. Friday, February 3, 2012 at Covered Bridge Health Campus in Seymour.
Laticia was born in Crab Orchard, Kentucky, the daughter of Dan and Maggie Hyatt Smith. She married Cecil B. Ryan on November 12, 1947 in Lawrence County. He preceded her in death on April 24, 1984.
She then married Ed Massengale on February 15, 1992 and he preceded her in death in 2011.She attended Jonesville Christian Church and was a member of Gorbetts Chapel Church.
Laticia retired from CP Electronics in 1968 after 22 years. She enjoyed spending time with her family, was an excellent seamstress and also enjoyed needlework and traveling.
She is survived by a son, Kenneth (Yana)
Ryan of Martinsburg, West Virginia; a daughter, Sue (Dave) Mulder of Seymour; a
son-in-law, Colvin Young of Martinsburg,
West Virginia; a brother, Doug (Julia)
Smith of Columbus; seven grandchildren, Jenny (Troy) Engelau, Becky (Chris)

Harold B. McGuffey, 91, of Bowling Green, died July 18, 2011.
The Lincoln County native was the son of Kelly and
Susie McGuffey. He owned and operated McGuffey Insurance Agency from 1952 to
1971 in Bowling Green. He was
named Kentucky’s Insurer of the year in 1963. In
1971, he was appointed Kentucky Commissioner of Insurance and served for seven
years. During this interim, he was
elected president of the National Association
of Insurance Commissioners, the first Kentuckian to ever receive this honor.
He was a World War II Bomber Pilot in the Army Air Force. He was an avid golfer and around the links he was known as “Ruff-Tuff McGuff.”
He was preceded in death by his parents, son, Alan D. McGuffey and brothers, Woodrow, Roy, Lloyd and Doyle McGuffey.
Survivors include his wife of 67 years, Novice Cook
McGuffey; a son, Harold Lee McGuffey, and his wife, Gail Wright McGuffey; a
grandson, Lee McGuffey and his wife,
Rachel Orth McGuffey of Salt Lake City; a

Everett Mullins
was born 07 Dec 1926 to the late
Lindsay Mullins and Vina Mullins. He passed away from this life on December 11,
1987. Making his stay here on the earth.
61 years and 4 days. He met Myrtle
Denney Mullins and the two were married 1951. Five children were born to this
union. Danny Mullins of Waynesburg, KY; Patsy Dowell,
Waynesburg, KY; Charles
Mullins, Crab Orchard, Ky; Phyllis Smith of Stanford, KY and Sandra Mullis lived
only seven days and went to live with the angels in Heaven.
He had two
brothers who preceded him in death, Chester Mullins and Walter Mullins. Three
sisters remain, Marie Barnard, Scottsburg, Indiana, Ruby Denney of Columbus,
Indiana and Lillian Amos, Seymour Indiana.
Everett never
joined a church here on earth. He believed in the Old Regular Baptist and we
believe he was to that church that the Lord is coming back for very soon. He
told
Myrtle he believed the Lord had forgiven him of his sins in 1981. He
attended the Crab Orchard Church of Old Regular Baptist as long as he was able
to go.
He seemed to enjoy the preaching and singing so very much. We believe he
is enjoying the singing of angels over in that happy land where cancer and death
don't come.
When I would visit him at his home, he would greet me with a smile,
although he would be so sick.

Alzheimer's. She was preceded in death by her husband, Virgil, in 2008, with

she had shared 67 years of marriage; and by her siblings, Dennis Wolfe and
Roberta (Wolfe) Alexander.
Born March 23,
1922, in Crab Orchard, Kentucky, to James and Ida (Robinson) Wolfe, the family
moved to Middletown where Jo graduated from Middletown
High School, Class of
1940. For 25 years she was an executive secretary at AK Steel, retiring in 1980
and relocating to Dunedin, FL. They returned to Mt. Pleasant
Retirement
Community in Monroe, OH (2005) and then she moved to McMinnville, OR (2008) to
be near family.
Jo
was well-known among family and friends for her great sense of humor and giving
nature. She is survived by two sons, Don (Jean) of McMinnville, OR; Dale (Carol)
of
Lancaster, PA; four grandsons, Jason (Hilarie), St. John, VI; Wes (Rian)
Spokane, WA; Reid (Suzanne), McMinnville, OR; Bryan, Portland, OR; and
great-grandson, Griffin,
Spokane, WA. Her memorial service will be held in

MORELAND — Danny Lee Pendergraft, 63, formerly of Hustonville, passed away Friday, March 2, 2012, at Bridgepoint Rehabilitation Center in Florence, Ky.
Born Feb. 3, 1948, in Ellisburg, he was the
son of the late John Pendergraft and Irene Ellis Lutterman Houp. He served in the
United States Army and was a Vietnam War veteran.
He was preceded in death by
his brother, Kline Pendergraft.
In addition to his mother, survivors
include a son, Danny Pendergraft Jr.; two daughters, Debbie Conradi and Deanna
Lamar Pendergraft; his dog, “Sugar;” a brother, Lonnie

STANFORD — Billy Rowe, 51, of Stanford, died Wednesday, Feb. 22, 2012, at Jewish Hospital in Louisville, Ky.
Born May 16, 1960, in Garrard County, he was a son of Bonnie
Payne Rowe of Stanford, Ky., and the late William Henry Rowe. He was a carpenter
and a member of
Watts Chapel Baptist Church. Billy enjoyed participating in
mission trips, one to Gulfport,
Miss., and another to New Orleans, La., helping the people of those communities
build back after suffering from massive hurricane damage. Most of all, he
enjoyed witnessing for his Savior, Jesus Christ.
Other survivors include his wife, Jeanne Rowe of Stanford,
Ky.; three children, Caylee Rowe of Stanford, Robert Meadows of Irving, Texas,
and Erin Garrison
Johnston of Richmond, Ky.; four brothers and sisters, Richard
Rowe, Johnny Rowe, Darlene Spillman and Christi Rowe, all of Stanford; two
grandchildren;
13 nieces and nephews; and 25 great-nieces and nephews. He was
preceded in death by a sister, Debbie Sue Rowe; and an infant son.
Funeral services will be 10:30 a.m. Saturday, Feb. 25, 2012,
at Spurlin Funeral Home. The Rev. Dan Gutenson, Gary King, Stewart Dawson and
Terry Holt
will officiate the services. Burial will be in Danville Memorial
Gardens.
Casket bearers will be John William Hall and Joe Atkins, Jonathan Floyd, Johnny Lee Rowe, Tommy Mullins and David Neal.

CRAB ORCHARD — Charles "Charlie" Phillip Saylor, 61, of Crab Orchard, died Tuesday.
Born Sept. 28, 1949, in Rockcastle County, he was a son of the late Walter and Verna Hopkins Saylor. He was a farmer.
Survivors Include his wife, Imogene New Saylor; whom
her married on March16th, 1979; a son, Phillip Charles Saylor of Junction City;
a sister, Doris Jean Owens of
Brodhead; brothers, Larry Saylor of Somerset,
Albert Saylor of Woodstock, Glen Saylor of Port Richie, Fla., Clarence Saylor of
Corbin, Billy Joe Saylor of
Lexington, Pete, Fred and Orbin Saylor, all of Ohio,
and Jay Saylor of Indiana.

(Buchanan) Siler, 77, of Stanford passed away Wednesday, October 17, 2007 at
Ephraim McDowell Hospital in Danville. Ella was born in Lincoln County,
Kentucky
on August 31, 1930. She was the daughter of the late Joseph and Kathryn (Mustin)
Buchanan.
Ella was the widow
of Carl Noland Siler. She was a member of the
Mt. Hebron Baptist Church.
She is survived by
four daughters; Diana Rice of Stanford, KY, Flossie and husband Terry Saylor of
Lancaster, Mary and husband Carl Jones of Waynesburg, KY,
Lesa and husband
Scottie Cook of Stanford; three sons, Fairley Siler and wife Bonnie of Wayneburg,
Jerry Siler and wife Laura Jean of Stanford, Ivan Siler and wife Debbie of
Stanford.
Ella is also survived by 13 grandchildren and 21 great grandchildren.

by her parents Joseph and Kathryn Siler and husband, Carl N. Siler, son, Dallas

Sunday, July 23, 2006. She was surrounded by loving family
as her life
gracefully came to an end. She was born in Somerset, KY to Oscar and Esther
(Price) Van Hook on December 28, 1927. She was
predeceased by her beloved
husband, Leonard A. Sprinkles.
She

Stanford- Myrtle Lee Stubbs, 88 of Stanford, died Saturday at Christian Care Center.
Born Oct. 29, 1918 in Mt. Vernon, Ohio, she was the daughter of the late Shelby and Elam Rhymerson Trautman. She was a seamstress, member of Stanford Baptist Church and Order of the Eastern Star.
Survivors include a daughter-in-law Virginia Stubbs, brother, Edmond Trautman of Campbellsville, three grandchildren, and six great-grandchildren.
She was predeceased by husband, Omar Stubbs, and son Michael Stubbs.
Services will be 11 a.m. Tuesday at Spurlin Funeral Home by the Rev Max Hester. Burial will be in Campbellsville Memorial Gardens.

CARROLL "J.C," 90, died Sunday, October 31. A resident of Orlando
for six years, he previously lived in Lexington and Nicholasville, KY.
A veteran
of WW II, J.C. retired from IBM in Lexington after 26 years and began a second
career in real estate. A long-time member of Nicholasville Baptist Church,
he
served as deacon, trustee, Sunday school teacher and director. A loving husband,
father, grandfather, and great grandfather - he will be missed by all.
Born October 12,
1920, in Boyle Co., KY, J.C. was the son of the late Oscar Ralston VanHook and
Esther Sonora Price. Married December 21, 1951,
he is survived by his wife, Fern
(Farmer) VanHook of Orlando; three children, Herb VanHook (Madeleine) of Vienna,
VA, Jo Carole DeMonte (Bill) of Spencerport, NY,
and Ben VanHook (Cheryl) of
Orlando. J.C. has six wonderful grandchildren, Andrea, Julie, Mark, Sydney, Ben
and Hannah, and one beautiful great-grandchild,
Addison Carole. He is also
survived by a sister,
Anna Pearl Nichols, of St. Petersburg, FL, and many nieces and nephews. J.C. was
predeceased by eight brothers and sisters,
Louis, Viola, Orville, Russell, Sam, Ralph, Ruth and Nell. Services will be 1:30
p.m., Friday at Nicholasville Baptist Church. Burial will follow in Camp Nelson
National
Cemetery. Visitation will be from 5 to 8 p.m., Thursday at Betts &

CRAB ORCHARD — James W. “Jim” Weaver, 98, of Stanford, formerly of Broughtontown, passed away Monday, Feb. 13, 2012, at Ephraim McDowell Regional Medical Center.
Born Feb. 8, 1914, in Lincoln County, he was the son of the
late Nathaniel and Lottie Rector Weaver. He was the widower of Barbie Alice
Yantz Weaver, who
preceded him in death on Oct. 28, 2003. He was a member of
Friendship Baptist Church. Jim was a lifelong farmer who also served in the
Civilian
Concentration Corps, better known as the Three C's.
Survivors include five children — two sons, Jerome Walker
“Bucky” (Vivian) Weaver of Crab Orchard and Robert Wayne “Bob” (Janet)
Weaver of Stanford;
three daughters, Frances Marie (Bill) Glancy of Dallas,
Texas, Margie Speake of Crab Orchard and Betty Sue (Larry) Carroll of
Waynesburg; five grandchildren,
Anthony (Robin) Speake, Chris (Beth) Carroll,
Bart (Angie) Glancy, Candy (Andrew) Rittenhouse and Nathaniel (Mary) Weaver;
four great-grandchildren,
Justin Speake, Morrigan Carroll and Emmie and Will
Glancy; a brother, John Robert Weaver; and three sisters, Geneva (Delbert)
Hawkins, Wanda Whitaker and Vernice Fain.
In addition to his wife and parents, he was preceded in death by a son-in-law, Wayne Speake, and several brothers and sisters.
The funeral service will be 2 p.m. Wednesday, Feb. 15, 2012,
at McKnight Funeral Home Chapel officiated by Bro. Dale Denton and Bro. Tony
Shelton. Burial will be in Sophus Cemetery.

Graveside services for Margie R. Wilson, 80, Frankfort, will be held 11 a.m. Thursday at Sunset Memorial Gardens. Elder Goble will officiate
Ms. Wilson died Tuesday at Frankfort Regional Medical
Center. A native of Lincoln Co., she was the daughter of the late Thurman and
Myrtle Black Reed.
She was a twenty year state employee retiring as an office
supervisor/coordinator in Vital Statistics. She enjoyed playing piano, singing,
talking, spending time with family and friends.
She had strong Christian faith
and was involved with both First Church of God and, more recently, Evergreen
Baptist.
Survivors include her son, Harry Noble Wilson, Jr.,
Frankfort; brothers, Therley Reed (Beulah), Stamping Ground, T.G. Reed (Pat),
Lawrenceburg; sisters, Verla Smith (Bob)
and Paula Kiper (Norman) Frankfort;
sister-in-law, Wanda Reed, Frankfort and several nieces and nephews.
In addition to her parents, she was preceded in death by a brother, Kenneth Reed.
Pallbearers will be Norman Kiper, Eric Novosel, Dicky Phillips, Jeff Reed, Mike Wright and Dewayne Reed. Honorary bearers will be her Evergreen Baptist family.

Zimmerman of Dunnville died Monday, Nov. 28, 2011 at Casey County Hospital. He
was 13. Born in Stanford on April 4, 1998, he was the son of Lloyd R.
and Amy Martin
Zimmerman of Dunnville. He was a student at McBeath Mennonite School.
In addition to his parents, survivors include three sisters, Beverly, Barbara
and Rebekah Zimmerman, all of Dunnville; three brothers, Jacob, Titus and Levi
Zimmerman,
all of Dunnville; and his grandparents, Eli and Sarah Zimmerman of
Dunnville and Paul and Ruth Martin of Liberty.
