STANFORD - Services for Addie M. Adams, 87, of Stanford, will be 2 p.m. Monday at Stanford Baptist Church by the Rev. Max Hester. Burial will be in Lancaster Cemetery. She died Friday at her residence. Born March 19, 1916, in Garrard County, she was the daughter of the late John and Emma Lear Tankersley. She was the widow of Milton Adams.

She was a farmer and landowner for more than 50 years, and was a homemaker. She was a member of Stanford Baptist Church. She was preceded in death by a son, J.W. "Dub" Adams, and a grandson, Donald K. Adams. Survivors include a son, Donald Adams of Stanford; a daughter, Emma Kidd of Somerset; seven grandchildren; 16 great-grandchildren; and five great-great-grandchildren. Pallbearers will be Jimmy, Bobby, Milton and Robbie Adams, Bob Marshbanks and Darrell Todd. Honorary pallbearers will be George O. Spoonamore, Mike Bertram, Ed Land  and Jimmy Estridge. Visitation is 6-9 p.m. today at Spurlin Funeral Home. Memorials may go to Heritage Hospice of Danville.

HARRODSBURG - Arnold Gene Adams, 46, of National Park, NJ., died Friday in National Park. Born Jan. 9, 1958, in Harrodsburg, he was the son of the late Andy and Gracie Harrison Adams. He was a self-employed telecommunications specialist. Survivors include a daughter, Amanda Starr Adams of Junction City; three sisters, Geri Bradshaw of Harrodsburg, Verna Stine of Burgin, and Mildred Stagner of Harrodsburg; and his fiance, Karen Williams of New Jersey. Services are 1:30 p.m. today at Ransdell Funeral Chapel by Larry Moore. Burial will be in Spring Hill Cemetery.

ADAMS, Kenneth

Kenneth Adams, 62, of Harding Street, died Friday at his home.

Born Sept. 6, 1939, in Elmwood, Ohio, he was the son of Mae Virginia

Fredrick Adams of Danville and the late Carl Adams. He was a self-employed

Tree trimmer and had formerly worked on high power lines in Indiana. He

was a veteran of the U.S. Navy.

 

Additional survivors include his wife, Imogene Milner Adams of Kings

Mountain; a son, Timmy Adams of Yosemite; three daughters, Tammy Cornett, of Junction City,

Pam Ryan of Stanford and Sandy Combs of Eubank; three sisters, Sue Houp, Violet Rogers and

 Beverly Langford, all of Danville;

Four brothers, Jimmy C. and Mike Adams, both of Danville, Freddie Adams of

New Durham, N.H., and Roger Adams of Kings Mountain; and six grandchildren.

Services will be 11 a.m. Tuesday at Stith Funeral Home by the Rev.

Eddie Dye. Burial will be in Grove Ridge Baptist Church Cemetery, Casey County.

Medical Center.  Born April 4, 1924, in Garrard County, he was the son of the late Edward and Ida Poynter Anderson. He 
was a retired farmer, a World War II Army veteran and a member of Good Hope Baptist Church.  Survivors include his wife, 
Elsie Frye Anderson; six sons, Claude, Jerry, Larry, Danny, Eddie and Bobby Anderson, all of Lancaster; four daughters, 
Patricia Goins of Louisville, and Charlotte Montgomery, Sue Coleman and Ruby Lear, all of Lancaster; a brother, Robert 
Anderson of Lancaster; three sisters, Mary Boyd of Lancaster, and Berdetta Trent and Parie Yates, both of Danville; 15 
grandchildren; and five great-grandchildren.  Pallbearers will be Jerry Poynter, Billy Joe Arnold, Charles Hammonds,

LANCASTER -- Services for Clara Ramsey Sutton Antle, 86, of Lexington,

formerly of Lancaster, were 1 p.m. today at Ramsey Funeral Home by the

Rev. Charles Cooper and Tom Ditto. Burial will be in Lancaster Cemetery.

 

She died Tuesday at Lexington Center for Health and Rehabilitation.

Born Oct. 9, 1916, in Marshall, N.C., she was the daughter of the late

Riley G. and Carrie Clemmons Ramsey. She was a former owner of Sutton's

Jewelry in Lancaster, and a member of Christ United Methodist Church.

She was the widow of Charles E. Sutton.

 

Survivors include her husband, Sam Antle; a son, Ronald Sutton of Berea;

A daughter, Linda Chaney of Lexington; a sister, Evelyn Owens of Brodhead; six grandchildren;

Four step grandchildren; seven great-grandchildren; seven step great-grandchildren;

And four step great-great-grandchildren.

BAUGHMAN, MR. JOHN , Jr.

Mr. John Samuel Baughman, Jr., of 314 Danville Ave., Stanford, died Monday, September 29, 1997 at his residence.

Born April 9, 1908 in Stanford, he was the son of the late John S. and Lena Bruce Baughman.

He was co-owner and operator of Baughman Mill in Stanford and a member of the Stanford Christian Church.

He was a member of the Stanford Rotary Club, a 1931 graduate of UK, member and former president of KA fraternity, Delta Sigmi Pi Business Fraternity, a former Stanford City Council member, Production Credit representative and Board of Directors during 1930.

He was former president of the Kentucky Millers Association, former president of Lincoln County Chamber of Commerce, former president of Lincoln County Historical Society, past president of Dix River Board of Realtors, former president of Stanford Christian Church Board, and a former member of the Kentucky Advisory Council of Small Business Admin.

Survivors include; two sons, Dr. John Baughman III, Harrodsburg, Harry Hill Baughman, Louisville; one daughter, Katherine (Kitty) Bruce Baughman Brower, Stanford, seven grandchildren and eight great grandchildren.

He was preceded in death by his wife, Dora Katherine (Dodie) Hill, who died October 23, 1995; one brother, Robert T. Baughman, one sister, Eddy Bruce Ryan.

Funeral Services for Mr. Baughman were held Wednesday, October 1, at 11:00 a.m. at the Fox Funeral Home, Stanford, with Dr. James C. Baughman officiating. Burial was in Buffalo Springs Cemetery in Stanford.

Pallbearers were John S. Baughman IV, Tom, Bob, Bill and Hill Baughman and Courtney Brower.

 Pearl Todd Belcher,  93, Harness Ridge Road, Crab Orchard, died Friday, April 6, 2001, at Fort Logan Hospital, Stanford. Born Feb. 5, 1908, in Lincoln County, she was a daughter of the late William and Effie Bastin Todd. She was a farmer and homemaker. Survivors include a son, Ben Belcher, Berea; two daughters, Cynthia Belcher Harrison, Louisville, and Edna Faye Belcher Howell, Somerset; two brothers, Lois Todd, Waynesburg, and Lester Todd, Cincinnati; 10 grandchildren; 11 great-grandchildren; and eight great-great-grandchildren. Preceding her in death were her husband, Whitt Belcher; her parents; a son, Whitt Belcher Jr.; a daughter, Essie Lee Belcher Jackson; five brothers, Bernie, Stanley, Leslie, Leonard and Homer Todd; and three sisters, Ethel Bowman, Edna Todd Belcher and Marie Todd Wren.
Funeral services will be 1 p.m. Monday, May 9,(this probably should read Apr 9)  at New Hope Church of God with Bro. Cecil Roundtree officiating. Burial will be in Mt. Zion Cemetery. She was a retired teacher and the widow of Hugo Berke. Survivors include a brother, E.J. Bolin; three sisters, Opal Gooch of Lexington, Faye Russell of Stanford and Ethel Bolin of Nicholasville.  Services will be 1 p.m. Wednesday at Pruitt's Funeral Home, Alexandria Drive. BLAKEY, Jimmy D. Blakey

MORELAND - Services for Jimmy Dale Blakey, 28, of Moreland will be 11 a.m. Friday at the W.L. Pruitt Funeral Home by the Rev. Kevin Hapton. Burial will be in the Grider and Blakey Cemetery in Russell Springs.

He died Tuesday in Moreland.

Born Dec. 16, 1975, in Lincoln County, he was the son of Nani Mae Blakey of Livingston and the late James L. Blakey. He previously attended the First Church of God in Hustonville.

He is survived by two daughters, Pamela Griffith and Jasmine Blakey, both of Moreland; two brothers, James Blakey of Danville and Samuel Blakey of Louisville; five sisters, Teresa Strange of Danville, Lisa Ledford of Stanford, Linda Carman of Casey County, and Derinda Goodin and Tina Blakey, both of Russell Springs; and a companion, Carol Griffith of Moreland.

Pallbearers will be Wayne Rigsby, Eddie Griffith, James Blakey, Jeff Owens, Junior Campbell and Ronnie Miller.

George Hobert Caudill, 85, of Stanford, died Friday at Ephraim McDowell Regional Medical Center. Born March 28, 1918, in Letcher County, he was the son of the late Lewis and Maggie Combs Caudill.

He was the owner and operator of Caudill’s Grocery Store and a carpenter. He was a member of Fairview Baptist Church. He was an Army Air Corps veteran in World War II and a member of American Legion Post 18. Survivors include his wife, Lola Ruth Hubbard Caudill; a son, James D. Caudill of Richmond, two daughters, Nancy Smith of Stanford and Ruth Ann Bracken of Bowling Green; three brothers, Nelson R. Caudill of Bryantsville, Tenn., Hugh A. Caudill of Mason, Ohio, and Albert Caudill of Big Sandy, Texas; a half-brother, Riley Caudill of Stanford; a step-brother, George Long of Stanford; two sisters, Arzella Cope of Marion, Ind. and Lina Gutenson of Cincinnati; one half-sister, Shirly Dotson of Moreland; seven grandchildren and eight great-grandchildren. Mr. Linzie Thomas Coffman, 69, of 581 Cardinal Meadows died Thursday, May 29, 1997, at the Ephraim McDowell Regional Medical Center in Danville.

Born January 1, 1928 in Stanford, he was the son of the late Matthew Cecil and Ida Florence Simpson Coffman.

He was a member of the Harrodsburg Church of God.

Survivors include: his wife, Ruby Bertram Coffman, Harrodsburg, two sons, Ronnie Thomas Coffman, Harrodsburg and Charles James Coffman, Lawrenceburg; five daughters, Cookie Conner, Diane Parnell, Renee Simpson and Connie Hart, all of Harrodsburg, Angela Gail Renfro, Georgetown; three brothers, Obert Coffman, Perryville, Virgil Coffman, Harrodsburg, and Charlie Coffman, Junction City; one sister, Dimple Lamb, Nicholasville; 19 grandchildren and 16 great grandchildren.

He was preceded in death by three brothers, John, Vester and Matt Cecil Coffman, two sisters, Lizzie Grimes and Dillie Lewis, two children, one grandchild and two great grandchildren.

Funeral services were held Monday, June 2, at the Alexander and Royalty Funeral Home with Bro. Larry Holbrook and Rev. Glenn Daugherty officiating. Burial was in Spring Hill Cemetery. Pallbearers were Chris Cooper, Billy Ray Conner, Jr., Roger Lupson, Steven Lupson, Darty Hart and Glenn Renfro

He was a member of Allen Chapel AME Church in Moreland and attended Lincoln County schools.  Survivors include his stepmother, Eliza Coffman of Danville; two brothers, Jones K. Coffman of Stanford and the Rev. James Coffman of Augusta, Ga.; a stepbrother, Garnett Gray of Versailles; a sister, Joyce Scurry of Augusta, Ga.; and a stepsister, Joann Anderson of Lancaster. Services will be 1 p.m. Wednesday at Allen Chapel AME Church by the Rev. Everhart Walker. Burial will be in Hilldale Cemetery. Pallbearers will be William McCormack, Earl Carson, Steven L. Born Feb. 27, 1932, she was a daughter of the late Harve and Bessie Yantz Padgett. She was a quiltmaker and member of Olive Baptist Church. She was the widow of George M. Jones and Troy L. Coleman.

Survivors include two sons, Richard and Howard K. Jones, both of Kings Mountain; three stepsons, Robert Coleman of Paris, Roy Coleman of Stanford and Ronald Coleman of Frankfort; two daughters, Betty Jones and Polly Burton, both of Kings Mountain; two stepdaughters, Diane McKay of Bushnell, Fla., and Rhonda Jones of Kings Mountain; six brothers, Orville, Richard and Willard Padgett, all of Waynesburg, Ernest Padgett of Verbena, Ala., Alvin Padgett of Lancaster and Bill Padgett of Crittenden; five sisters, Bertie Brown of Yosemite, Ethel Jones and Martha Black, both of Somerset, Barbara Eldridge of Dry Ridge and Ina Padgett of Richmond; 16 grandchildren; and 19 great-grandchildren.

She was predeceased by a son, Harvey Jones.

81, of Stanford (Ky)died Thursday at Fort Logan Hospital. Born April 13, 1921, in Lincoln County, he was a son of the late Leonard and Viola Kayes Combs. He was an agent and driver for American Red Ball Transit Co., and American Van Lines. He was a member of Harris Memorial United Methodist Church and the widower of Marie Brown Combs. Survivors include two daughters, Bonnie Combs James of Stanford and Wanda Combs Hemphill of Cumming, Ga.; a a sister, Zora Blankenship of Virginia; four grandchildren; and five great-grandchildren. Services will be 2 p.m. Saturday at Spurlin Funeral Home by Jerry Beck and Johnny Adamson. Burial will be in Buffalo Springs Cemetery. Pallbearers will be Terrill Wayne, Gary Padgett, Michael Poynter, Billy Moberly, Pat Sanders and Buddy Burton. Harry Crawford,  84, formerly of Lincoln County, passed away in London, June 9.  He was preceded in death by his wife Lucinda Hoskins Crawford in 1986.  He was the son of the late George F. Crawford and Susie Maupin Crawford.  He is survived by three sisters, Mrs. Howard (Gertrude) Barker of bowling green, Mrs. Donald (Dorothy) Skaggs of Fairborn, OH., and Mrs. James (Effie) Hazelbaker of Danville and one brother, Delbert Crawford of Stanford.  Funeral services were held at House-Rawlings Funeral Home.  Burial was in Hoskins Cemetery in Laurel County.  Interior Journal

MIDDLEBURG - Services for Frankie Leo Derry, 58, of Waynesburg, will be 10 a.m. Friday at Bartle Funeral Home by the Rev. Mike Mullins. Burial will be in Camp Nelson National Cemetery with military rites by American Legion Post 18 of Stanford.
He died Monday at University of Kentucky Chandler Medical Center.
Born Aug. 29, 1940, in Lincoln County, he was a son of Esther P. Brown Derry of Rockford, Ill., and the late William C. Derry. He was a farmer and an Army veteran.
Other survivors include four brothers, Jack, Ronald and Gary Derry, all of Rockford, and James Derry of Waynesburg; and three sisters, Vivian Richmond, Ann Mitchell and Wanda Swartward, all of Rockford.
Pallbearers will be Bobby Taylor, Vernon Houp, Jackie Haggard, Hobert Mason, George Smith and Ronald Cook Sr.

LIBERTY - George Elliott, 91, of Liberty, died Monday at Ephraim McDowell Regional Medical Center.

Born Feb. 17, 1913, in Lincoln County, he was a son of the late William and Lucy Taylor Elliott. He was a retired civil engineer for the state Department of Transportation. He also was a former board member of Great Financial Federal Savings and Loan.

Survivors include three daughters, Susan Hoskins of Liberty, Ann Hutchcraft of Paris and Bobbie Bryan of Birmingham, Ala.; and three grandchildren.

Services will be 2 p.m. Thursday at Bartle Funeral Home by the Rev. Homer Hecht. Burial will be in Middleburg Cemetery. Pallbearers will be Joe, George and Johnny Elliott, Elliott Hutchcraft, Jim Coffey and J.O. Wilkerson. Honorary pallbearers are John G. Elliott and Roger Elliott.

Born March 13, 1934, in Letcher County, he was the son of the late Dewey and Cisiah Fields. He was a logger, farmer and a Regular Baptist. Survivors include three brothers, Bill Fields of Fayetteville, Ark., Bob Fields of Lincoln, Ark., and Charles Fields of Waynesburg; three sisters, Alice Kilby and Rebexie Coss, both of Waynesburg, and Louanza Whitaker of Shepherdsville. CRAB ORCHARD - James Newton "Newtie" Fletcher, 68, of Crab Orchard, died Monday at his home.

Born March 8, 1936, in Poor Valley, Va., he was the son of Thelma Little Fletcher of Crab Orchard and the late James F. Fletcher. He was a semi-retired farmer and a former employee of Bluegrass Stockyards, a member of Lexington Farmers Market for 25 years and a flea market vendor in London.

Other survivors include his wife, Elizabeth Eldridge Fletcher; two daughters, Laura Brandenburg of Stanford and Teresa Renner of Crab Orchard; a brother, Robert W. Fletcher of Crab Orchard; four sisters, Virginia Metcalf of Cincinnati, Martha Cowan of West Chester, Ohio, Janice Southard of Stanford and Mary Davidson of Middletown, Ohio; and five grandchildren.

He was preceded in death by a son, James N. Fletcher Jr. Services will be 2 p.m. Thursday at McKnight Funeral Home by Cecil Roundtree. Burial will be in Simpson Cemetery in Dogwalk. Mrs. Debra Ann Goodpaster, 38, of 530 Ottenheim Road, Waynesburg, died Sunday, June 8, 1997 at her residence.

Born February 12, 1959 in Harrodsburg, she was the daughter of Alford H. and Catherine Ann Glasscock Vanarsdall.

She was an order department specialist at American Greetings and a member of Willow Grove Baptist Church.

Survivors include: her husband, Ronnie Gene Goodpaster, Waynesburg; one son, Ronnie Gene Goodpaster II; one daughter, Lori Ann Goodpaster, Waynesburg; one brother, Mark Vanarsdall, in the US Air Force; one sister, Karen Walton, Nicholasville.

Services for Mrs. Goodpaster were held Wednesday, June 11 at the Ransdell Funeral Chapel with Rev. Dale Denton and Rev. Joseph Vest officiating. Burial was in Spring Hill Cemetery.

Born Sept. 17, 1920, in Stanford, he was the son of the late Henry and Isabelle Jones. He was a building contractor, a Marine veteran of World War II and a member of First Baptist Church.

KIDD, Charles Taylor , 79, of Grant Street died Wednesday at his home.
Born Nov. 28, 1920, in Junction City, he was a son of the late Everett J. and Anna Adkins Kidd.
He was a retired foreman for Norfolk Southern Railroad Corp. and had served in the Army during World War II as a machine gunner first class. He was the recipient of two bronze stars and had served in the Asiatic Theater.
He was a member of Lexington Avenue Baptist Church, Retired Railway and Veterans Club, Junction City Disabled American Veterans and American Legion Boyle Post 46. He also had donated a copy of the peace treaty to the Admiral Nimix Museum in Fredricksburg, Texas.
Survivors include his wife, Edith Abbott Kidd; four stepdaughters, Sarah Gover Wiltsee of Cheshire, Conn., Jean Gover Mudd of Louisville, JoAnn Gover Rankin of Danville, and Patricia Shakelford of Danville; a brother, Everett Kidd Jr. of Danville; 11 stepgrandchildren; 23 stepgreat-grandchildren.
Services will be 11 a.m. Saturday at Lexington Avenue Baptist Church by the Rev. Tommy Valentine. Burial will be in Danville Memorial Gardens with military rites by American Legion Boyle Post 46.

Born November 11, 1914 in Pulaski County, she was the daughter of the late George and IoLa Gastineau Adams.

She was a homemaker and a member of Goochtown Church of Christ in Eubank.

Survivors include: one daughter, Claudine (Hershell) Larkins, Eubank; one sister, Lucy Smith, Muncie, IN; two grandchildren, Pam (Donald) Adams, Eubank and Jackie Larkins, Harrodsburg, two great grandchildren and one great great grandchild.

Mrs. Ollie Blevins Kidd, 101, of Trisler Lane, Junction City, died Tuesday, April 22, 1997 at her residence.

Born March 2, 1896, in Wayne County, she was a daughter of the late Alfred and Ellen Litton Blevins and the widow of Oscar Kidd.

She was a homemaker and a member of Junction City Baptist Church.

Survivors include: three daughters, Nola Flynn of Junction City, Linnie Short of Stanford, and Cleora Westerfield of Danville; two sons, Alfred Kidd of Harrodsburg and Billy Kidd of Bardstown; one brother, Garr Blevins of Jamestown Tenn.; 37 grandchildren; 74 great grandchildren; and 13 great great-grandchildren. She was preceded in death by five children, Robert, Everett, Jesse, Chester and Letha Kidd.

Services for Mrs. Kidd were held Friday, April 25, at Preston-Pruitt Funeral Home in Danville by Rev. Paul Bunger and Rev. Earl Burnside. Burial was in Buffalo Springs Cemetery in Stanford.

She was a former Registered Nurse at Ephraim McDowell Regional Medical Center and a former Vocational Health Career Instructor at Danville High School.

She was a member of Calvary Baptist Church and the widow of Leon Oliver, a former native of Garrard County.

Survivors include: two sons, Jim (Regina) Oliver, Salvisa, and John (Yvonne) Oliver of Lancaster; one brother, Bud Hooker, Lancaster; her mother-in-law, Jewell Oliver, Lancaster; five grandchildren. She was preceded in death by a daughter, Edith Anne Oliver.

Mrs. Evelyn Grubbs Russell, 66, formerly of Mackville, died Thursday, July 10, 1997 at the Columbia Spring View Hospital in Lebanon.

A native of Lincoln County, she was born on June 19, 1931 to the late Jesse and Bertha Goodpastor Grubbs.

Survivors include her husband of fifty years, George Henry Russell; one son, William Lee "Pete" Russell of Stillwell, IN; two daughters, Mrs. Hank (Nancy) Hamende of Mackville and Donna McLaughlin, Carmel, IN; five grandchildren, two step granddaughters, six great grandsons and one great granddaughter; two sisters, Mrs. Randall (Alice) Darland of Harrodsburg and Mrs. Tom (Barbara Ann) Ross of Burgin; three brothers, Harold Grubbs, Mackville, Ronnie Grubbs, Shepherdsville, Donnie Grubbs, Shelbyville.

Funeral services were held Monday, July 14 at the Carey & Son Funeral Home in Springfield, with Bro. Ken Ward, officiating. He was assisted by Bro. Harry Coultas. Burial was in Peter Cemetery, Mackville.

Mr. Robert Pitts Sampson Sr., 101, of 293 King Ave., South Lebanon, OH, died Saturday, January 11, 1997 in South Lebanon.

Born June 20, 1895 in Lincoln County, he was the son of Napoleon Waldon Sampson and Jenny Lowrey Overstreet Sampson.

He was a retired farmer and carpenter and a member of Union Christian Church in Lincoln County.

He was a WWI veteran and a member of the DAV for 50 years.

Survivors include: one son, Robert Pitts Sampson Jr., South Lebanon, OH; five daughters, Pauline Holloway, South Lebanon, OH, Katie Sallee, Lexington, Ann Baugh, Versailles, Dortha Lawson and Eileen Lester, both of Harrodsburg, 16 grandchildren, 26 great grandchildren, three great great grandchildren. He was preceded in death by one grandchild and one great great grandchild.

Services for Mr. Sampson were held Tuesday, January 14, 1997 at the Ransdell Funeral Chapel with Dr. David Hartman officiating. Burial was in Buffalo Springs Cemetery, Stanford.

Pallbearers were Howard and Glenn Holloway, Michael and Jeffrey Wells, Charlie Lawson and Danny Field. Mr. Sampson's six children were honorary pallbearers.

Saturday Jan 23, 1999 at Crab Orchard Cemetery by the Rev. John Lowrey.  She died Wednesday at 
Rockcastle County Hospital.  Born Feb. 24, 1913, in Crab Orchard, she was a daughter of the late Ivan 
W. and Maggie Traylor Fish.  She was a retired Lincoln County teacher. She was a graduate of Crab 
Orchard High School and received  her bachelor of arts degree from Eastern Kentucky University. 
She completed post graduate work at University of Kentucky, Western Kentucky University and Morehead 
State University.  She was a former director of the Crab Orchard Glee Club and was a member of  Kentucky 
Retired Teachers Association, Crab Orchard High School Alumni Association,  the Logan-Whitley Chapter of 
Daughters of the American Revolution. She was a member of Crab Orchard Christian Church where she served 
as Sunday School teacher, pianist and organist.   She also taught piano.  

Survivors include her husband, Ray W. Settle; and nieces and nephews.  Pallbearers include Jerry Shelton, James 
Manuel, Thomas Butt and Paul Dillion.  Honorary pallbearers are Jimmy Messer and Stanley Turpin.  There will be 
no visitation.  McKnight-Martin Funeral Home is in charge of arrangements.

Mrs. Bessie Shannon, 87, of 300 Mill Street, Burgin, died Friday, April 4, 1997 at the Haggin Memorial Hospital.

Born February 25, 1910 in Lincoln County, she was the daughter of the late Robert Lee and Nellie Shearer Carrier. She was the widow of William M. Shannon.

She was a homemaker and a member of the Burgin Methodist Church.

Survivors, include: one son, G. T. Shannon, Burgin; one daughter, Patricia Curtis, Lancaster; on brother, Robert Carrier, Mercer County; one sister, Gertie McKinney, Mercer County; three grandchildren, six great grandchildren. She was preceded in death by twin sons, Bennie and Linnie Shannon.

Services for Mrs. Shannon were held Sunday, April 6 at the Ransdell Funeral Chapel with Rev. Ricky Shannon officiating. Burial was in Burgin Memorial Gardens.

Born Nov. 1, 1924, in Lincoln County, he was the son of the late James Fred and Minta Reynold Singleton. He was the widower of Imogene Spencer Singleton. He was an engineer, surveyor and road inspector, a veteran of World War II and member of Double Springs Baptist Church.

Survivors include four sons, Gary Singleton of Danville, Tim Singleton of Ridgecrest, Calif., Kevin Singleton of Waynesburg and Darren Singleton of Liberty; four daughters, Iris Dugger of London, Jeanie Mullins of Yosemite, and Lana McGuffey and Debra Long, both of Highland; one sister, Virginia Emerson of Porterville, Calif.; 21 grandchildren; and 22 great-grandchildren. Smallwood of Indiana; two daughters, Angela J. Scott of Manteca , Calif., and Debbie Demrow of Waynesburg; three

grandchildren; and two great-grandchildren.

Born Dec. 29, 1917, in Lincoln County, she was the daughter of the late Harvey and Rosetta Privett Hopson.  She was the widow of Emmett Staples. She was a retired Lincoln County teacher and attended Eastern Kentucky and Campbellsville universities.

She was the widow of James Garnett Tewmey.  She was a member of the Harrodsburg Christian Church and the 
Mercer County Senior Citizens.

Survivors include: one son, James Lloyd Tewmey of Harrodsburg; three daughters, Irma Katherine Case, North Miami, FL, Bessie Rhea Taliaferro, Homosassa, FL, Daisy Frances Freeman, Cedar Key, FL; one brother, E. T. She was a former housekeeper at Stanford House and cook at Charleston Health Care. She was Pentecostal in faith. Survivors include seven sons, David Payton, Donald Payton, Wayne Payton, Rannie Payton, Bobby Payton and Gary Payton, all of Stanford, and William Payton of Burgin; 25 grandchildren; and several great-grandchildren. She was preceded in death by a son, Jerry Payton. Services will be 1 p.m. Tuesday at W.L. Pruitt Funeral Home by the Rev. Rick Naylor. Burial will be in Hustonville Cemetery.

Opal A. (Todd) Yeary, 84, passed away March 28, 2001 at Lake Cumberland Regional Hospital in Somerset.
 
A Lincoln County native, She was born in Waynesburg, KY, November 16, 1916, daughter of the late Johnie 
Todd and Stella (Measle) Todd.   She was a homemaker, retired Rose's employee and member of Estesburg 
Church of Christ in Eubank.

Survivors include her husband, Coyt C. Yeary, whom she married Dec. 19, 1936, son, Bill Gene (Alma) Yeary of 
Lexington, daughter, Sylvia Ann (Donnie) Zellar of Mellott, IN, seven grandchildren, Jeff Yeary, Greg Yeary, Reynea 
Johnson, Debbie Booe, Michael Zellar, Sabrina Yeary, Eric Secen and ten great-grandchildren.

WEDDLE, Helen B.

 HOUSTONVILLE ; Graveside services for Helen Wood Burton Weddle, 87, of Charleston Health Care Center 
will be 11 a.m. Thursday at Hustonville Cemetery by the Rev. Bob Kirkpatrick.  A memorial service will be 1 p.m. 
Thursday at Trinity Episcopal Church.  Born March 12, 1914, in Lincoln County, she was the daughter of the late 
Gilmore and Lela Dye Burton.  She was an employee of the state Bureau of Vital Statistics, birth records department.
She was a graduate of Hustonville High School and a member of Trinity Episcopal Church.
Survivors include a daughter, Paige Weddle of Danville; a son, Karl Weddle of Danville; a sister, Dorothea Brandt of 
Frankfort; six grandchildren; and seven great-grandchildren. Memorials may go to Trinity Episcopal Church.

ZWAHLEN, Samuel Alfred 
CRAB ORCHARD -- Samuel Alfred Zwahlen, 88, of Waynesburg died Thursday At the Stanford House nursing home.
Born Aug. 22, 1914, in Lincoln County, he was the son of the late Samuel And Maggie Schlappi Zwahlen.  He was a 
farmer and a member of Fairview Baptist Church.  Survivors include his wife, Lillian Oliver Zwahlen; a son, James A.
Zwahlen of Houston, Texas; two stepsons, Guy R. Greer of Lancaster and Simon Greer of Waynesburg; a brother, 
William "Bill" Zwahlen of Cincinnati; two sisters, Lillian Zwahlen of Cincinnati and Marie Stevens of Lancaster; four 
stepgrandchildren; and four stepgreat-grandchildren.  Services will be 2 p.m. Monday at Fairview Baptist Church by 
Gary King.  Burial will be in Danville Memorial Gardens.
