He was an army veteran, having served 11 years. He served under George Patton and was part of a special detail dispatched to Alkatraz Island to oversee the imprisonment of Al Capone.

Survivors include: one son, Michael Dale (Betty) Bugg, Harrodsburg; one daughter, Jennifer Joan (Jimmy) Long, Harrodsburg; four grandchildren and six great grandchildren. He was preceded in death by two brothers, James and Ocie Baker; two sisters, Gertrude Merriman and Jennie Zimmerman.

Funeral services were held Wednesday, May 24, at the Ransdell Funeral chapel with Mark Girard officiating. Burial was in Spring Hill Cemetery with military rites.

Pallbearers were Kevin Bugg, Todd Bugg, Don Hayslett, Harold Hill, Mike Hill, Vernon Tatum and Kevin Tyler. Honorary bearers were Donnie and Gil Hayslett.

Ethel M. Fletcher, 69, of Middletown, passed away Tuesday afternoon in Middletown Regional Hospital. She was born in Stanford, Ky.,
Oct. 18, 1933, a daughter of Pascal and Mary (Marlowe) Pulliam. She was a member of the South Fork Baptist Church of Lincoln
County, Ky., and enjoyed bowling as a young woman. She had worked for 17 years at the Miami Carey Co. Mrs. Fletcher was a loving wife,
mother and grandmother, and will be sadly missed.

She is survived by her husband of 51 years, Larry Fletcher; two daughters, Judy Murphy of Florence, Ky. and Debbie (Mike) Morgan of
Middletown; grandchildren Erica Fletcher, Craig Shields, Erin Murphy, Maggie Murphy, Tonya Morgan and Mike Morgan; 13
great-grandchildren; her mother, Mrs. Mary Pulliam; two sisters, Delores Carrier and Jean Saunders; a sister-in-law, Dolly Pulliam;
and numerous nieces and nephews. She was preceded in death by a daughter, Beverly Jean; her father, Pascal Pulliam; and a brother,
Manuel Pulliam.

She was born on September 28, 1947 in Crab Orchard, KY to Cecil and Mae (Dyehouse) Martin. She received her Bachelor of
Science degree in early childhood education from the University of Illinois and did masters work at UNK. On June 26, 1971 she
married James Gilbert. After they were married the couple lived in Champaign, IL, Chadron, NE and Radford, VA before making
their home in Kearney in 1988 where she was employed by UNK. She taught English as a second language to international students.
Her interests focused on her family, gardening, reading and travel. Her love of children and education was greatly important to her.
Her daughter was her treasure.

In addition to her husband she is survived by daughter, Jennifer Hunter, Kearney, Nebraska; her mother; brothers, Randy Martin,
and Don Martin; and sister, Pat Godby all of Crab Orchard, KY. She was preceded in death by her father.

She was a member of Gardenside Baptist Church, Eastern Star and Bluegrass Insurance Women’s Club. She was an employee of
H. & R. Block for 10 years, a certified professional insurance woman, a graduate of Rose Hill High School and attended Centre College.

Survivors include: her husband, Billy Sallee; two daughters, Susan S. Gillespie and Kathy J. Sallee, all of Lexington; four sisters, Pauline
Holloway, South Lebanon, OH, Eileen Lester and Dorotha Lawson, both of Harrodsburg, Ann Baugh, Versailles; one half-sister Elaine

SAYLOR, James

James W. Saylor, 93, of Middletown, Ohio, passed away Wednesday, April 28, 2004, at Middletown Regional Hospital.

He was born on Jan. 13, 1911, in Lincoln County, Ky., and lived in the Middletown area most of his life. He was a Navy veteran of
World War II. Mr. Saylor worked at Sorg Paper Co. for 44 years as a paper maker, retiring in 1973. He was a member of the
First Christian Church, American Legion Post 218, and Middletown Senior Citizens.

He was preceded in death by his wife, Elva Saylor, on March 30, 1994; and his parents, John and Matilda Saylor.

He is survived by two sisters, Laura Dennis and Betty Byrum; and a brother, Gilbert Saylor.

There will be no visitation. Graveside services will be at Woodside Cemetery Mausoleum at 10 a.m. on Monday, May 3.

Born Feb. 24, 1913, in Crab Orchard, she was a daughter of the late Ivan W. and Maggie Traylor Fish. She was a retired Lincoln
County teacher. She was a graduate of Crab Orchard High School and received her bachelor of arts degree from Eastern Kentucky
University. She completed post graduate work at University of Kentucky, Western Kentucky University and Morehead State University.
She was a former director of the Crab Orchard Glee Club and was a member of Kentucky Retired Teachers Association, Crab Orchard
High School Alumni Association, the Logan-Whitley Chapter of Daughters of the American Revolution. She was a member of Crab
Orchard Christian Church where she served as Sunday School teacher, pianist and organist. She also taught piano.
Survivors include her husband, Ray W. Settle; and nieces and nephews.
Pallbearers include Jerry Shelton, James Manuel, Thomas Butt and Paul Dillion.
Honorary pallbearers are Jimmy Messer and Stanley Turpin.
There will be no visitation.
