STANFORD -- Graveside services for Inza Milbern Hadley, 89, of
Cincinnati, formerly of McKinney, will be 10 a.m. Wednesday at Fox
Funeral Home by John Lowry. Burial will be in Buffalo Springs Cemetery.
She died Monday at East Galbraith nursing home in Cincinnati.
Born Aug. 12, 1912, in Casey County, she was the daughter of the late
Daniel R. and Lola Durham Milbern. She was a homemaker and the widow of
Thomas Hadley.
Survivors include a daughter, Vera H. Martin of Cincinnati; a sister,
Pauline Martin of Cadiz; three grandchildren; seven
great-grandchildren; and two great-great-grandchildren.
Visitation is 6-9 p.m. today at Fox Funeral Home.

MIDDLEBURG -- John Paul Haggard, 49, of Hurricane Ridge Road,
Waynesburg, died Tuesday at his home.
Born June 17, 1953, in Lafayette, Ind., he was the son of the late
Arvil and Sadie Rayborn Haggard.
Survivors include two sons, John Paul Haggard Jr. of Pine Village,
Ind., and Robert L. Haggard of Louisiana; 11 sisters, Della Bryant of
Kings Mountain, Stella Liles of Sidell, Ill., Judy Anderson and Annie
McAninch, both of Waynesburg, Alma Perry of Fowler, Ind., Marsha Luster
of Middleburg, Lena and Mary Pittman, both of Liberty, Louise Payton of
Stanford, Lula Mae Trueblood of Lafayette and Foneal Issacs of
Westport, Ind.; three brothers, Clay Elliott of McKinney, Silas Elliott
of Metcalf, Ill., and Henry H. Haggard of Westport; and a companion,
Barbara Blanton of Waynesburg.
Services will be 1 p.m. Friday at Bartle Funeral Home by Thomas
Pittman. Burial will be in Bethelridge Cemetery.

She died Thursday 4/4/2002 at her home.
Born Sept. 9, 1928, in Lincoln County, she was the daughter of the late
Isaac N. and Gertrude Vanover Greer. She was a homemaker and member of
Olive Baptist Church.
Survivors include her husband, Hillard Halcomb; five sons, Danny
Halcomb of Camden, Ohio, Doyle and David Halcomb, both of Stanford,

WAYNESBURG --Services for Roy Hall, 75, of Jacobs Loop Road will be 2
p.m. Saturday at Double Springs Baptist Church by Brad King. Burial
will be in Buffalo Springs Cemetery in Stanford with military rites by
Caswell-Saufley Post 18 of the American Legion.
He died Wednesday at Ephraim McDowell Regional Medical Center.
Born Oct. 23, 1926, in Lincoln County, he was the son of the late Felix
E. and Bessie Cornett Hall. He was a farmer and a mechanic for Saufley
Implement Co., retiring after 19 years. He was a farmer, a member of
Double Springs Baptist Church, and an Army veteran of World War II. He
was the widower of Zelma Henderson Hall.
Survivors include his companion, Patsy Hubbard of Stanford; a son, Paul
Hall of Waynesburg; four brothers, Ray Hall and Clarence Venoy, both of
Waynesburg, Joe Hall of Nancy and Thomas Hall of Summerville, S.C.;
three sisters, Mary Coleman of Somerset and Eva Harris and Audra
Carter, both of Waynesburg; two grandchildren; and three
great-grandchildren.
Pallbearers will be Joey Rice, Jimmy and Raul Henderson, Jeff and Dale
Petrey, Cordell Bragg and Ray Price.

Saturday at Rockcastle County Hospital.
Born June 8, 1958, in Danville, she was the daughter of Betty Irvin
Guinn of Crab Orchard and the late George A. Guinn. She was a
homemaker.
Other survivors include her daughter, Tracy Jo Hammock Shelton of
Brodhead; a son, Justin R. Riddle of Brodhead; a brother, Alvin Guinn
of Crab Orchard; her companion, Bill Hayes of Brodhead; and a grandson.
Services will be 11 a.m. Tuesday at McKnight Funeral Home by Allen Waid
and Dan Carr. Burial will be in Bellevue Cemetery, Danville.

Sunday at the home of his daughter.
Born June 16, 1940, in Brodhead, he was the son of that late Ed and
Lova Jane Hampton. He was a retired sawmill operator.
Survivors include a daughter, Lisa Coleman of Stanford; two sons,
Curtis Hampton of Broughtontown and Charles Hampton of Highland; a
sister, Cordia Powers of Stanford; two brothers, Willie Hampton of
Glasgow and Mack Hampton of Eubank; and 10 grandchildren.
Services will be 1 p.m. Wednesday at McKnight Funeral Home by Gary
Yocum. Burial will be in Negro Creek Cemetery, Brodhead.

Bessie Harrison, 86, formerly of Harrodsburg, died Thursday, February 20, 2003
in Danville.
Born June 13, 1917 in Lincoln County, she was the daughter of the late Andy and
Eunice Nokes Anderson. She was the widow of Bennie Harrison.
She had worked in the kitchen at Shakertown, attended Herrington Lake
Pentecostal Church, loved to dance, quilt, and embroider.
Survivors include: two daughters, Myrtle Jean Cutter and Betty Jane Johnson,
both of Danville; 13 grandchildren, 32 great-grandchildren, and 17 great-great-grandchildren.
Funeral services were held. Sunday, February 23, at the Alexander and Royalty
Funeral Home with Bro. Steve VanHook officiating. Burial was in Burgin Memorial Gardens.
Pallbearers were great-grandsons, Jeffrey Cutter, Bobby Cutter, Dewayne Wright,
Johnny Lee Johnson, Matthew Louallen and Jim Lopez. Honorary bearers were great-great-grandsons,
Damyan Young, Josh Johnson, B. J. Johnson, Shae Anderson, Nicholas Anderson, Adam Shumate, Tyler
Reynolds and Justin Shumate.

He died Friday at Ephraim McDowell Regional Medical Center.
Born July 15, 1944, in Mercer County, he was the son of the late James
C. and Sarah Catherine Harrison. He was a machine operator for Dana
Brake Corp., and a member of Lanes Chapel Church in Buena Vista.
Survivors include his wife, Sue Adams Harrison; a daughter, Amanda J.
"Jeanie" Harris of Harrodsburg; three brothers, Robert Harrison of
Junction City, and William W. and Ernest L. Harrison, both of Burgin;
three sisters, Elizabeth C. Casey of Burgin, Shelia G. Brickey of
Lancaster and Fredia E. Blacketer of Moreland; and three grandchildren.
He was preceded in death by two daughters, Rhonda and Catherine
Harrison.

veteran of World War II.

Saturday at home after an apparent heart attack.
Born Aug 19, 1925, in Lincoln County, she was a daughter of Carrie Dale

seamstress for Cowden Manufacturing, a member of Watts Chapel Baptist
Church and a former member of Crab Orchard Eastern Star. She was the
widow of Roy G Hendrickson.

Born Sept. 13, 1915, in Lincoln County, she was the daughter of the late Perry C. and Ida Lee Lane Ellis. She was a licensed practical nurse.
Survivors include a granddaughter, Debra A. Whitis of Somerset; and two great-grandsons. She was preceded in death by a son, Charles W. Hixson.
Services will be 1 p.m. Tuesday August 28, 2001 at W.L. Pruitt Funeral Home by the Rev. Greg Nimmo. Burial will be in Hustonville Cemetery.

Mr Charles Hodge, age 52, of Waynesburg, Route 3, died unexpectedly Tuesday at his
home.
Mr Hodge, a native of Lincoln County, was a farmer.
He is survived by three daughters, Joyce Ann Hodge, at home; Mrs Ruby Harrison,
Waynesburg Route 2; Mrs Kelly Hodge, Hustonville Route 1; five sons, James, Melvin,
Delbert, Eugene and Jonas Hodge, all at home; Riley Hodge, Waynesburg Route 2; George
Colis Hodge, Louisville; two brothers John R and Eugene Hodge both of Waynesburg Route
2; two sisters, Hettie Coffman(sp.), Kansas and Mrs Cora Kidd, Waynesburg.
Services will be conducted at 2PM today by the Reverend Vernon Clark at the grave side
of the Mount Moriah Cemetery.
Arrangements are being handled by Beazley and Raney Funeral Home, where the body will

Mr Delmer Ray Hodge, age 70 of Crab Orchard, died Sunday, May 4 at the Ft Logan
Hospital in Stanford. He was born in Lincoln County on October 15, 1932 the son of Gene
and Loudina Kidd Hodge. He was a retired farmer and logger.
He is survived by his wife, Shelby Jean Hodge; three sons, Kenneth Hodge and Bobby
Hodge, both of Broughtentown, Kentucky, and Brian Keith Hodge of Waynesburg, Kentucky;
one brother, Howard Hodge of Crothersville, Indiana; and five sisters, Ruth Stroud of
Austin, Indiana, Lavern Reed of Uniontown, Indiana, Lorene Denny of Waynesburg,
Kentucky, Wanda Kidd of Mount Vernon, and Mary Middleton of Crab Orchard. Also
surviving are six grandchildren and six great grandchildren. He was preceded in death
by his first wife, Ida Beatrice Hodge.

Born July 13, 1918, in Lincoln County, he was the son of the late Jack and Katherine
Mason Hodge. He was a retired farmer and a Pentecostal.
Survivors include his wife, Helen Snow Hodge of Stanford; one son, Gene Hodge of Casey
County; one daughter, Shirley Hodge of Stanford; one brother, Kelly Hodge of
Hustonville; one sister, Aileen Coleman of Stanford; several grandchildren and several
great grandchildren.
Funeral services will be 2PM Monday at Fox Funeral Home by Gary Yocum. Burial will be

Joseph Jackson Hodge (July 1896-December 7, 1954)
Joe Jackson Hodge, age 59, of Hustonville Route 1, died at the Veterans Hospital,
Louisville, Kentucky last Tuesday at 4AM.
Mr Hodge was a veteran of World War I and was married to Catherine Mason Hodge. To this
union the following five children were born, all of which survive, Mrs Christine
Campbell, Gernie L Hodge, Kelly F Hodge, Dewey H Hodge and Mrs Dorothy Coleman all of
Hustonville.
Other survivors include three brothers, John H, Genie O and Charlie L Hodge, all of
Waynesburg; two sisters, Mrs Cora Kidd, Waynesburg, Mrs Hettie Clifton(sp.) and 11
grandchildren.
Funeral services were conducted by the Reverend Arlie Carter Thursday afternoon at the
Mount Moriah Christian Church.
Burial was in the Mount Moriah Cemetery.

Katherine Mason Hodge, 83, of Hustonville, Route 1, died Sunday, September 3 at Fort
Logan Hospital after a long illness.
A native of Lincoln County, she was a housewife and member of the Holiness Church. She
was the widow of Joe Jackson Hodge and daughter of the late Louis and Mandy Relford
Mason.
Survivors include 2 daughters, Bonnie Christine Campbell of Hustonville and Dorothy
Aline Coleman of Stanford; 2 sons, Kelley Freeman Hodge and Gurnie Lee Hodge, both of
Hustonville; 5 sisters, Mennie Bussie of Indiana, Celia Mason, Areitha Mason, Elsie
Mason and Mamie Mason, all of Stanford; 4 brothers, Tommy Releford of Stanford, Elly,
Melord and Lloyd Mason, all of Kings Mountain; 22 grandchildren and 29 great
grandchildren.
Services were held at 1PM Wednesday at Beazley-Raney-Speaks Funeral Home with minister
Ed Yocum in charge. Burial was in Mount Moriah Cemetery.

an apparent heart attack.
He was born May 8,1941, in Lincoln County and was the son of the late Gene Hodge and

He is survived by his mother; his wife, Ester Pruitt Hodge; a daughter, Sandra; and a
son, Paul D Hodge Jr, both of the home. Three brothers, Delmar Ray Hodge, Crab Orchard,
Howard Edward Hodge, Route 2, Crothersville(sp.), Indiana and Walter Ralph Hodge, Crab
Orchard; six sisters, Mrs Della Baugh, Crab Orchard, Mrs Martha Denny, Waynesburg, Mrs
Edna Ruth Stroud, Seymour, Mrs Wanda Caudill, Seymour, Mrs Margaret Reed, Seymour and

Mr Hodge was employed at the National Vencer Company, Seymour.

been self-employed. He was a member of St. Augustine Catholic Church in
Lebanon.

Bradfordsville, Frank F. Hoeck of Perryville and Paul D. Hoeck of

Services will be 11 a.m. Friday at St. Sylvester Catholic Church in
Ottenheim. Burial will be in the church cemetery with military rites by
Caswell-Saufley American Legion Post 18 of Stanford.

anxiety and trouble. It is said that John Holmes dispatched to the Governor requesting that his
brother, Samuel, might be allowed to attend his mothers' funeral and that the Governor replied:

CRAB ORCHARD -- Maude Catherine Rogers Jackson, 85, of Sowder
Nursing Home, Brodhead, formerly of Crab Orchard, died Saturday
at Rockcastle Hospital, Mount Vernon.
Born May 20, 1916, in Lincoln County, she was a daughter of the
late George and Bessie Delaney Rogers. She was a member of Mount
Zion Church of Christ. She was preceded in death by her first
husband, James Hubert Harness; her second husband, Oscar Jackson;
and a son, Noel Harness.
Survivors include a daughter, Bonnie A. Dyson of Morriss, Ill.;
four sons, James Mitchell Harness of Hamilton, Ohio, Delbert Lee
Harness of Stanford, and Jesse M. Harness and Billy D. Harness,
both of Crab Orchard; and two brothers, Cecil Rogers of Danville
and Everett Rogers of Junction City.
Services will be held 11 a.m. Tuesday at Mount Zion Church of Christ.
Burial will be in Mount Zion Church of Christ Cemetery.
Visitation will be after 6 p.m. Monday at McKnight-Martin Funeral
Home and after 9 a.m. Tuesday at Mount Zion Church of Christ.

STANFORD - Emma Frances Shaw James, 86, of Columbus, Ohio, died Wednesday at Columbus
Alzheimer's Care Center.
Born May 24, 1918, in Lincoln County, she was a daughter of the late James and Mary
Wyler Shaw.
She was a retired sales clerk and the widow of Robert James.
Survivors include a daughter, Judy James Weaver of Columbus; two sisters, Ann Calloway
of Crab Orchard and Rose James of Stanford; two grandchildren; and three
great-grandchildren.
Services will be 1 p.m. Saturday at Fox Funeral Home by the Rev. William Croy. Burial
will be in Buffalo Springs Cemetery. Visitation will be after noon Saturday.

Obituary of Mr. J. W. James
Crab Orchard, KY., Feb. 27.
On February 25th, near the somber hour of midnight, the noble and generous spirit of J.W. James, the noblest man that ever lived in all the tide of Time, took its
flight from his elegant home to a far more splendid mansion in the skies. He was not yet 45, and no man, not even his lamented father, the late G. W. James, will
be so sadly missed by the poor and humble. He has had many work hands in his service, and when any servant or ex-servant died, he always gave him appropriate
burial at his own expense. When some poor black woman, sick and out of coal and provisions, would be sent at his own expense in his own wagon.
On one occasion, a poor destitute man, (William Kidd), with a withered arm, passing his place of business with an empty meal sack on hi shoulder, and a coffee-sack in
which he had three hens, the only property he had in the world, stopped in to warm, Willie said, what have you there, Bill, a "possom? No. How are the "possums"?
Mightly scarce. How are times with you? Mighty hard. I have in my coffee-sack my only three hens. The only things I have in the world. I am taking
them to the store to buy me some meal and coffee. Look here at this paper and see what your hens are worth in the market - 68 cents a piece. Take them
back home to lay you some eggs, and take this dollar to buy you some coffee and meat, and take your meal sack up to my miller and tell him to fill it as full of
meal as he can tie it. He gave more to preachers, churches, Sunday schools, Christmas trees, and to feed and clothe the poor, than any other man in Lincoln county.
Alas! How sad that one who had so often fed the hungry, should die hungry himself
because he could not eat! His donations to churches, Sunday schools and to charity amounted annually to the hundreds.
Frank Brooks said on the train to-day, "The death of will James is the breaking up of the noblest family that ever lived in Lincoln county." His place
here can never be supplied. His fortune was ample, his cash capital in the thousands, and his pockets always full to meet the demands of the borrower and the beggar. How
much better this than millions to libraries for ostentatious only, which do not benefit the poor people.
I never saw such universal sorrow expressed in all ranks of life. At his burying were the proud aristocrats and the poor tenant, working men and their wives and their little
children shivering in the snow. At Stanford, Monday morning, more grief was expressed by such men as Cicero Reynolds, County Clerk George R. Cooper and the
editor of the Interior Journal, all of whom had had business relations with him.
He was for some time clerk in the J. B. Owsley bank at Stanford and was a devoted friend of this venerable financier, whose confidence he enjoyed. He was
educated at Georgetown College, and tough not gifted with the divine inflators of hefty oratory, yet in debate in that college when no doubt, he was competing
with the Georgetown or Lexington bar, he took the prize in discussing where or not circumstantial evidence should be admitted in the courts. His side of the debate
was the affirmative. He was a fluent talker, an excellent penman and an accurate and rapid accountant. He was the fond idol of his mother and his relatives, male and female,
loved him to idolatry. His aunt, Mrs. M. V. Siglar adored him as her own darling "Willie." Deceased was twice married. His first wife was Mattie Owsley Evans,
daughter of the late George W. Evans, and his present wife was Margaret, daughter of the noble old Scotchman, the late John Buchanan. His wives were both
most excellent women of the first families, and his last wife is noted for her domestic qualities. Like the great Washington, the deceased left no children, but all the poor
of this community will ever regard him as a father, brother and friend. His grand old father, G. W. James, and devoted mother Lizzie P. James, preceded him to the tomb
some years ago. He leaves a most devoted wife to mourn his untimely death. His sisters, Mrs. Louanna Holdam, of Stanford, Mrs. Scott, of Somerset, and Mrs. Berta
Morris, of Crab Orchard, are broken hearted with grief, fresh wounds no time can heal and he left male and female relatives and friends who will never cease to mourn for him
who never gave cause to mourn before. He was in many qualities the grandest man that ever moved in the track or time. Brave and noble, gallant and true! His poor little niece,
Sue Beth James, and nephew, George Andrew James, dual orphans, whose father gave his life in service as a soldier in the far away Phillippines, came up from Stanford to
mingle their tears over the grave of the dear departed. All relatives and friends who are good enough will meet him again. Oh, shall we not strive to do so?
Rev. O. M. Huey made most beautiful and appropriate remarks at the residence to the large crowd assembled there, which at first fanned the flames of grief in talking of the
noble dead and cruel Death, till it was almost unbearable, but at the close, with his soft empressions and beautiful language, he managed our grief to soft, soothing,
sacred billows of sorrow, which we hope will softly slumber there forever!
One by one our friends depart,
Who has not lost a friend?
There is no union here of hearts,
But that union has an end.
Farewell, dear Willie, we leave thee
With the new fallen snow for a winding sheet,
And cold, bleak winter for a bier;
And every clod beneath the mourner's feet
Moistened with a tear.

He was the son of Cyrus M. James and Hattie Chappell James. He was a former
crane operator. He is survived by his wife, Emma Shaw James, a daughter of
Columbus, Oh, two grandchildren and 3 great grandchildren.
Services will be 2:30 p.m. Monday at Fox Funeral Home. Burial will be in

He died Sunday at Fort Logan Hospital.
Born Sept. 15, 1959, in Hustonville, he was the son of the late Lloyd
Johnson and Shirley Walls Christopher. He was a former employee of
Christian Appalachian Project and a member of Geneva Community Church.
He also was a gospel and bluegrass musician.
Survivors include his wife, Kimberly Adams Johnson; a son, Tommy
Johnson of Lawrenceburg; a daughter, Crystal Johnson, at home; a
stepfather, Lewis Christopher of Lancaster; grandfather, J.E. Walls of
McKinney; and two sisters, Dianna Schleiger and Freda Hamilton, both of
McKinney.
Pallbearers will be Terry Wray, Keith VanHook, Ricky King, Randall
Long, Jeff Cain, Larry Raines, Brandon Monroe and Kenneth Monroe.

at Danville Centre for Health and Rehabilitation.
Born July 8, 1910, in Tecumseh, Mich., she was the daughter of the late
George and Edith Lucas Rockwood. She was a homemaker, member of
Pleasant View Baptist Church, and the widow of the Rev. Wilbur D.
Johnson.
Survivor include three sons, Wilbur D. Johnson of Louisville, George D.
Johnson of Danville and Daniel W. Johnson of Nicholasville; a daughter,
Gertrude McAninch of Waynesburg; nine grandchildren; 11

Cowan Helm. She was a housekeeper and a member of the Church of God

Billy Jackson Lamb
Billy Jackson Lamb, 70, of Finnell Pike, Georgetown, died Wednesday,
Sept. 18, 2002, at the University of Kentucky Medical Center.
He was born in Boyle County on March 4, 1932, and was the son of the
late Jack and Willa Belle Pelley Lamb. He was a member of Gano Avenue
Baptist Church and the Mt. Vernon Lodge No. 14 F&AM. He was the owner
of Lamb’s Shoe Service in Georgetown and a retired Scott County school
bus driver. He was a member of Lex Singles Square Dancing Club.
Survivors include five sons, Jackie (Bettie) Lamb, of George-town,
James (Lisa) Lamb, of Hazard, Joe (Marguerite) Lamb, of Sheperdsville,
Jacob (Con-stance) Lamb, of Lawrenceburg, and Johnny Lamb, of
George-town; a daughter, Jerri Sue (Tom) Withers, of Georgetown; nine
grandchildren, Jackson, Jennifer, Jason, Jarrett, Sandra, Justin,
Jeremy, Juliana and Jesse; two brothers, J.B. (Martha) Lamb and Bobby
(Doris) Lamb, both of Lincoln County; a sister, Edith Cannon, of Boyle

He was preceded in death by two brothers and a sister, Judy Kay Lamb.
Funeral services were held Saturday, Sept. 21, 2002, at Tucker, Yocum &
Wilson Funeral Home with the Mt. Vernon Lodge officiating.
Burial was in Hillcrest Cemetery at Perryville.
Casket bearers were members of the lodge.
Honorary bearers were his grandsons and his square dance club.

member of New Life Church of God of Prophecy.

Delk Stewart of Ashland; three stepsons, Tommy and Timmy Darland, both of Harrodsburg, and David

CRAB ORCHARD -- John Hanceford Leigh Jr., 75, of Rigsby Road died today
at his home.
Born March 12, 1926, in the Blue Lick community of Lincoln County, he
was the son of the late John H. and Ruth Green Leigh. He was a retired
farmer, an Army veteran of World War II, and a member of Masonic Lodge
636.
Survivors include his wife, Elizabeth Spoonamore Leigh; four daughters,
Carolyn D. Burton and Ruth D. Smith, both of Stanford, and Donna Gooch
and Emma Smith, both of Crab Orchard; a son, John H. Leigh III of Crab
Orchard; two sisters, Rose E. Haeuser of New Orleans, La., and Audrey
Hargis of Danville; 13 grandchildren; and 10 great-grandchildren.
He was the brother of Eugene Leigh of Danville, who died Wednesday.
Services will be 2 p.m. Monday at McKnight Funeral Home by Norman
Young. Burial will be in Crab Orchard Cemetery.
Visitation will be after 4:30 p.m. Sunday and after 8 a.m. Monday.

STANFORD -- Services for Tarvin Lewis, 86, of Stanford will be private.
She died Saturday at Ephraim McDowell Regional Medical Center.
Born Jan. 8, 1916, in Plato, she was the daughter of the late G.L. and Mattie Evans Lawrence. She was the widow of James C. Lewis. She was a farmer and a member of Turnersville Christian Church.
Survivors include her daughter, Renita Hampton of Stanford; a brother, Donald Lawrence of Nicholasville; three sisters, Retta Gooch of Stanford and Ruby Lane and Omega Smith, both of Indianapolis; a grandson; and a great-granddaughter.
Visitation is 4:40-8:30 p.m. today at Spurlin Funeral Home.

Born Dec. 11, 1943, in Pulaski County, he was the son of the late
Luther and Elizabeth Jean Sillars Loveless.
He died Sunday at his home.

WAYNESBURG -- Bessie Lovvorn, 87, of Bronston died Wednesday at Lake
Cumberland Regional Hospital in Somerset.
Born May 20, 1914, in Celina, Tenn., she was the daughter of the late
Herman and Pearl Daly Davis. She was a homemaker and a member of
Quinton Baptist Church. She was the widow of Charlie Lovvorn.
Survivors include three sons, Charlie Sims of Somerset, Jim Sims of
South Bend, Ind., and Bob Sims of Cincinnati; a sister, Faye Harris of
Laurel, Ind.; nine grandchildren; 16 great-grandchildren; and four
great-great-grandchildren.
Graveside services will be 11 a.m. Friday at Sims Cemetery, Kings
Mountain, by John Mark Toby.
Barnett & Demrow Funeral Home is in charge.

Marvin Lowry, 82, of Danville, died Friday, April 14, 2000, from injuries sustained in an automobile accident
on March 31. He was the widower of Lorena Sargent Lowry, who also died as the result of the accident.
Born in Washington County, Mr. Lowry was the son of the late James William and Ollie Voorhies Lowry. He was a
farmer and a member of the Salt River Baptist Church.
He is survived by five daughters, Ollie Mae Minor, Ohio; Sylvia Ann Norvell, Perryville; Dixie Lee Mullins,
Versailles; Peggy Joyce Yankey, Gravel Switch, and Linda Faye Speakes, Paris; two sons, Marvin Lowry and
Raymond Erbin Lowry, both of Perryville; 25 grandchildren; 33 great-grandchildren and a great-great-grandchild.
Services were conducted at 2 p.m. Monday, April 17, at Salt River Baptist Church. Burial in
Hillcrest Cemetery in Perryville. The Wilder Funeral Home, Perryville, was in charge of arrangements.

Health Care Center.
Born July 8, 1914, in Casey County, he was the son of the late Walter
and Loretta Estes Lucas. He was a farmer and a member of Mount Salem

Survivors include his wife, Varnetta Lucas of Stanford; a daughter,
Anna Bernice Lucas of Lexington; a brother, Ralph Lucas of Mount Salem;
a grandchild; and a great-grandson. He was preceded in death by a son,

STANFORD -- Helena "Shorty" Luttrell, 76, of Harmon Heights died
Saturday at Fort Logan Hospital.
Born July 14, 1925, in Casey County, she was a daughter of the late
Carl and Sarah Saxton Hamilton Luttrell. She was a former employee of
Cowden Manufacturing Co., a former home health assistant, a former
owner and operator of a family care home and a member of Mount Olive
Christian Church.
Survivors include a daughter, Linda Ernestine Drew of Harrodsburg; a
sister, Helen Litwiller of Pekin, Ill.; three grandchildren; and three
great-grandchildren. She was preceded in death by a son, Ronald Beryl
Snow Jr.
Graveside services will be 11 a.m. Wednesday at Mount Olive Christian
Church, Casey County, by Greg Powell. Burial will be in Durham
Cemetery, Casey County.
Visitation will be 6-9 p.m. Tuesday at Fox Funeral Home.

James R. "J.R." and Pauline Sparkman Lynn of Danville.

Michael Lynn, Erin Bartlett and Ki Lynn, all of Cheraw; and a brother,
Jerry Lynn of Danville.
