Thomas Reed Phillips

Many of my relatives were from the Lincoln County and surrounding areas.  I am sending you a picture of my great grandfather, Thomas Reed Phillips.  He was born January 4, 1890, and died July 16, 1933.  He was a resident of Hubble at the time of his death.  According to his death certificate, he died of a gun shot wound of the abdomen.  According to The Interior Journal Nos. 57, 58, & 59 with dates of July 18, 21 & 25, 1933,  Reed Phillips  was shot through the left side by John Manuel.  John Manuel claimed he shot Phillips after Phillips had cut his brother, Tom, and then turned on him with the knife.  Reed Phillips died the next day.

Reed Phillips left behind a young wife and 8 living children at that time.  His youngest son was only 5 or 6 months old when he died.
