J. M. Ellison Dies After Long Illness: Was Prominent Churchman Succumbing to an illness of many months, J. M. Ellison, 83, passed Away at his home Tuesday night, March 31.  Funeral services were held this afternoon from the First Baptist Church with the pastor, Dr. T. E. West, in charge.    Interment was made in Highland Cemetery by the Ellison Funeral Home.  The son of William M. and Malinda Stanfill Ellison, Mr. Ellison Was born November 23, 1859, near Williamsburg, and spent his life as a merchant and coal operator in Whitley County.  A prominent Baptist, he devoted a great deal of his time to the work of the denomination in the city, county and state.  He served as trustee and treasurer of Cumberland College for forty years, and was senior deacon of the First Baptist Church.     Active pallbearers included Dr. E. B. Stonesifer, T. J. Roberts, J. T. Vallandingham, E. E. Siler, T. E. Mahan, P. R. Jones, J. L. Creech and A. W. Whitehead. Honorary pallbearers included the deacons of the First Baptist Church; the trustees of Cumberland College; Mr. Merritt Nicholson and Prof. Wyatt Wood.     Surviving are his wife, Mrs. Maude England Ellison; two sons, Raymond of Williamsburg and James of Kalamazoo, Mich.; six daughters, Mrs. Myrtle Dishman, Miss Mabel Ellison and Mrs. Dorothy Butcher, all of Williamsburg; Mrs. Warren Haydon of Hazard, Ky.; Mrs. Crosby Bean of Franklin, Ohio, and Mrs. J. M. Lindley of Miami, Florida.  Also surviving are two brothers, George Ellison of Jellico and Green Ellison of Williamsburg, and eight granddaughters.   Out-of-town friends and relatives who attended the funeral Included Mrs. Bessie England and Mrs. Florence Cornett of Pineville; Mr. and Mrs. Howard Ellison, Mr. and Mrs. B.        Funeral services for George Ellison, 64, were held from the Briar Creek Baptist Church on Friday, October 16 [1942], with Rev. T. E. West in charge of the service. Interment was made in the church cemetery.   Acting pallbearers were Howard Hickey, L. O. Siler, Eugene Siler, John Maggard, Arthur Lee and John Murphy.   Mr. Ellison passed away at his home on Wednesday after being ill some eight months from heart trouble. A native of Pleasant View, he was the son of Matt and Nannie Beams Ellison. On November 25, 1906, he was married to Miss Nellie Carroll who survives him.   Children surviving are Carl Ellison, Mrs. Fae Smith, Mrs. Edna Trammell, and Teddy Ellison of the U.S. Army. One sister, Mrs. Belle Jones, and two brothers, L. N. Ellison and Sam Ellison, also survive.   Mr. Ellison has been a merchant in Williamsburg for many years, coming here from Gatliff, Ky., where he was also in the mercantile business.   Out-of-town friends and relatives here for the funeral were Mr. And Mrs. T.R.          Mr. Frank Hamlin age 44 years, 11 months, and 25 days, was killed December 25, 1930.  Mr. Hamlin was a true christian hearted man, loved by all who knew him.  His friends were numbered by his acquaintances.  Besides his wife he leaves five children, Mrs. Sherman Ball of Swain, Mrs. Floyde Meadows of Jellico Creek, Fred Hamlin of Whitley City, and Herman and Ernest Hamlin, who live with their mother; four brothers and five sisters, besides a host of other relatives and friends to mourn his loss.  Funeral and burial was at the Bethel Cemetery December 26.

         The death of Clarence Lovett came as a sudden shock to his many friends at this place.  Mr. Lovett was shot and killed near the Kidd school house.  We have not yet learned the murderer of the deceased.  Mr. Lovett was postman on this route, being between Pine Knot and Holly Hill.  He leaves a sister, Mrs. Elner Creekmore;  his father Harrison Lovett; and a host of friends to mourn his loss.  Mr. Lovett has always made his money with his grandparents, Mr. and Mrs. Matt Lovett.  We especially extend our symphathy to them in their sad hours of bereavement.  The body was laid to rest in the Pleasant Run Cemetery.
NOTE:  Both Mr. Hamlin and Mr. Lovett were killed at the same time in the same place by the same person or persons.

        Mrs. E. A. Merle died at the home of her daughter, Mrs. Harry Donaldson, Thursday afternoon at 12:30 of Brights Disease.  Mrs. Merle had been in bad health for more than a year, but was able to be about until Tuesday of last week.  She died on her seventy-eighth birthday, twenty years after her husband's death on the same date.  She is survived by four daughters, Mrs. Harry Donaldson, Mrs. Briar Donaldson, both of Stearns;  Mrs. J. M. Robertson of Louisville, Ky;  Mrs. Ed Chitwood of Robbins; and one son, Mr. J. M. Merle of Norma, Tenn.  She had made her home with her two daughters Mrs. Briar Donaldson and Mrs. Harry Donaldson for the past several years.  Mrs. Merle spent most of her life at New River, Tenn. and was a member of the Methodist Church at that place.  Funeral services were held at the home of Mr. Harry Donaldson Saturday morning and burial was in the family cemetery at New River Saturday afternoon.  Re. A. O. Stevens was in charge of the services.

       Mr. Marion Keith, 86 years of age, died at the home of his daughter, Mrs. Jack Jones, Wiborg, Ky. Tuesday January 6th after months of illness.  Mr. Keith was a civil war veteran and had lived most of his life in McCreary County.  He leaves seven children and a number of grandchildren and great-grandchildren to mourn his loss.  Funeral services and burial were held in the Cooper Cemetery Friday, January 10th

Tuesday, April 28, 1953, McCreary County Record:
NORMA JEAN DOLEN, 14, Stearns, daughter of Mrs. Pearl Ross Watson and Elbert Dolen, died Saturday, April 25th, at the Somerset City Hospital from a heart condition. She had been ill for three weeks and was removed to the hospital from her home on Saturday. She died on the elevator going up to the hospital room.
    The family moved to Stearns from Blue Heron about one year ago. She was a member of the Beech Grove Baptist Church. She is survived by her mother, Mrs. Pearl Watson, her father, Elbert Dolen, one brother Leo Dolen, three half sisters, Maxine, Irene and Joyce, and one half brother, Joyce Watson, and her step-father, Mr. Dillard Watson.
    Funeral services were held Monday, April 27th, at the West Apple Tree Church with Rev. Levi Cox officiating. Burial was in the Stearns Cemetery.

   BENNIE WHITEHEAD, 80, retired farmer and former McCreary County Magistrate, died August 1, 1953, at his home in Ritner following an illness of several months.
    The son of Benjamin and Mary Polly Huff Whitehead, he was born in the Rittner community, at the time Wayne County, June 15, 1873, and lived in that community his entire life. He became a member of the Freedom Baptist Church 54 years ago and lived a faithful Christian life unto the end.
    In 1899 he married Linda Mason, who survives. Other survivors are two daughters, Mrs. Goldie Mathews, Ritner, and Mrs. Pearlie Phillips, Cincinnati; four sons, Cornelius, Ritner; Leamon and Oscar, Cincinnati and Luther, Whitley City; 18 grandchildren, four great-grandchildren and a host of other relatives and friends to mourn his passing, who feel their loss is his eternal gain.
    Funeral services were held Aug. 2nd, with Rev. Theo Branscum and the Rev. Levi Cox officiating. Burial was in the Clark Cemetery in Wayne County.
    Pallbearers were Theo Branscum, Willard Tucker, Gilson Jones and Gilbert Phillips. Flower girls were his granddaughters.

    LEE VADIE WATERS, 61, a resident of Worley, died Friday, Sept. 11th at Upland Sanitarium, Pleasant Hill, Tenn., a few hours after entering the hospital. Mrs. Waters had been in declining health for the past three years.
    The daughter of Mose Waters and Sitha Slaven, she was born in Scott County, Tenn., November 18, 1891. She was married to Frank A. Waters and to this union six children were born.
    She is survived by her husband, two daughters, Mrs. Minnie Keith, Parkers Lake and Mrs. Edna Roberts, Cincinnati; four sons, Hollis of Cincinnati; Harold of Muncie, Ind., and Buddy and Bradley living at home; one sister, Mrs. Julia Watson of Caryville, Tenn., and one brother, Alfred Slaven, of Worley. She was a member of the Baptist Faith.
    Funeral services were held Sunday afternoon, Sept. 13th at 2:00 o'clock at the Smithtown Baptist Church with Rev. Goldman Watters, assisted by the Rev. Leland Thomas, officiating. Burial was in the Hickman Cemetery.

Tuesday, January 5, 1954, McCreary County Record:
    PERRY GODSEY, 73, died of a heart attack at his home 2 miles west of Stearns, December 23. Mr. Godsey had been in very poor health for the past year and a half.
    Mr. Godsey was the son of Shade and Tilda Abbott Godsey. He was born April 17, 1880 in Wayne County. After his marriage to Abbie Neely, he moved to McCreary County and reared a family of six children. He was a farmer and night-watched for the Stearns Company for 32 years. Mr. Godsey was a member of West Appletree Baptist Church. He belonged to the Modern Woodmen and also to the Junior order. Mr. Godsey was a quiet, friendly man and a respected citizen in his community.
    Survivors include his widow, Mrs. Abbie Godsey, and daughters, Mrs. Mary Hardin, Tennessee; Mrs. Minnie Neal, Detroit, Mich.; Mrs. Ethel Strunk, Dayton, Ohio; Mrs. Myrtle Ball, Bethel; Mrs. Ollie Mae Wright, Florida and a son Robert, of Cincinnati, Ohio. Other survivors are a sister, Mrs. Arch Angle and a brother, Cornelius Godsey, both of Stearns.
    Funeral services were held at West Appletree Baptist Church at 1 p.m. Christmas day with Rev. George King and Rev. Kaywood Whalen in charge of services. Burial was in the Stearns Cemetery.

Tuesday, March 2, 1954, McCreary County Record:
    WILLIAM HARVEY WINCHESTER, 59, died suddenly at his home in Stearns Friday night, February 26 from a ceberal hemorrhage.
    Mr. Winchester, a coal miner and merchant, was a member of one McCreary County's oldest and respected families.
    Funeral services were held at the home Monday, March 1 at 1:30 o'clock with the Rev. Robert Fitts officiating. Burial was in the Hickman Cemetery.
    He is survived by his widow, Mrs. Rose Troxell Winchester, three daughters, Mrs. Eva Tucker and Mrs. Aldena Boles, Stearns, and Mrs. Christine Roberts, Belfry, Ky.; four sons, Wilburn of Cincinnati, Finis and Willard, Belfry, Ky., and W. H. Winchester, Jr. Santa Monica, Calif.; brothers, Luther and Haney, Stearns, Frank M. Oakwood, Va., and Harry, Fort Pierce, Fla., and sisters, Mrs. Inman Newport, Stearns and Mrs. Mamie Glumb, Fort Pierce, Fla.

Tuesday, October 5, 1954, McCreary County Record:
     Mrs. ELIZA WILSON, 85, one of McCreary County's oldest residents, died September 30th at her home in Otter Creek Community.
     Mrs. Wilson was a member of the Ross Grove Baptist Church. She was a Christian mother, a good neighbor and was held in high esteem by a great number of friends and acquaintances.
     Survivors are her husband, Elihu Wilson, and two daughters, Mrs. W. H. Harvey, Strunk and Mrs. W. E. Watters, Revelo.
     Funeral services were held in the Ross Grove Baptist Church Saturday at 1 o'clock, with the Rev. Levi Cox and the Rev. Simon Watters officiating. Burial was in the Smith Cemetery in West Pine Knot.

Tuesday, March 15, 1955, McCreary County Record:
     BERTHA WATERS PHILLIPS, 54 years of age, died March 7th at the General Hospital in Cincinnati. The body was returned here to Hickman funeral home on Wednesday, March 9th awaiting burial.
     The beloved wife of Ira Phillips, she was a former resident of the wolf Creek community, but had lived in Cincinnati with her family for several years. She became a member of the Wolf Creek Baptist Church early in life and remained a member in good standing until her death.
     She is survived by her husband, and two daughters, Estelle and Adaline Phillips, living at 123 Green Street, Cincinnati; one son Glenn Phillips, Amherst, Ohio; also daughters, Mrs. Sue Nutley, Marion, Ind., and Mrs. Essie Gibson, Muncie, Ind., and two brothers, Nim and Elmer Waters, Hill Top.
     Funeral services were held Thursday at 2 o'clock with the Rev. Luther Phillips officiating. Burial was in the Jim Coffey Cemetery.

Tuesday, February 7, 1956, McCreary County Record
     DEWEY STRUNK, 55 years of age, merchant and former coal miner, died Monday, January 30, at his home in Revelo from a heart condition. He was born and reared in McCreary County, the son of the late William Strunk and Rachel Strunk. He was a member of the Lower Hickory Grove Church and Orie S. Ware Lodge, Stearns.
     Funeral services were held Wednesday at First Hickory Grove Church with the Rev. Milford Vahle and the Rev. Carmel Stanley of Winfield, Tenn., officiating. Burial was in the Lower Hickory Grove Cemetery with Orie S. ware Lodge members administering the last rites in the graveside service.
     Mr. Strunk is survived by his mother, Mrs. Rachel Strunk, Revelo, two sisters, Mrs. Hurstle Cordell of Cincinnati, and brothers, Ernest, Cart, Elmer and Willie of Revelo, and General of Crab Orchard, Ky.

    THEO JONES, 55 years old, died at the Scott County, Tenn. Hospital on February 2. Mr. Jones was a resident of the Hill Top community. He joined the Zion Baptist Church in Wayne County at the age of 18 years and remained a member of that church until his death. He was a member of Orie S. Ware Lodge, Masonic Lodge in Stearns.
     Funeral services were held at the Pleasant Rock Baptist Church, Smithtown, Friday at 2 p.m. with the Rev. K. M. Matthews of Henderson, Kentucky and the Rev. Clark Stephens in charge.
     Surviving are his widow, Mrs. Ester Keith Jones; three sons, Haskel of Covington, Kenneth, a member of the U. S. Armed Forces, stationed at Walter Reed Hospital, Washington, D. C., and Alton, of Hill Top; three daughters, Vienna, a student at Barren Springs, Mich., Betty Sue, a student in Fletcher, N. C., and Ova Carroll, Hill Top. Other survivors are his father, Willie Jones, Delta; brothers Schyler, Marion, Ind., Oscar, Newport, and Walter C. at Hill Top; three sisters. Mrs. Clara Brewster, Newport, Mrs. Mary Mayfield, Marion, Ind., and Mrs. Laura Inman, Fields, Ky.
     Burial was in Hickman Cemetery with the Orie S. Ware Masonic Lodge in charge.

Tuesday, May 8, 1956, McCreary County Record:
     WILLIAM (BILL) DAVIS, age 63 years died suddenly Tuesday at his home at 1411 West Grand Avenue, Orlando, Fla. The body was returned here Friday to the home of his daughter, Mrs. Chester Stephens, awaiting burial on Sunday.
     Mr. Davis was born on Turkey Creek in Wayne County, Kentucky. He professed his faith in Christ as a young man and joined the Turkey Creek Baptist Church of which he was a member at his death. He came to McCreary County to work for the Stearns Coal and Lumber Company and was a mine superintendent at Yamacraw and Cooperative until he was forced to retire in 1945 because of ill health. He was an employee of the company for 33 years. Upon retiring he moved to Indiana for a short time and later moved to Orlando. His long period of service with the Stearns Coal and Lumber Company was proof of his character and the high regard in which he was held by his fellowman.
      Mr. Davis is survived by his widow, Sarepty Thompson Davis, one son, Noble Davis, Cincinnati; eleven daughters, Mrs. Zora Stephens, Smithtown; Mrs. Artie Stephens, Norwood; Mrs. Alta Abrams, Cincinnati; Mrs. Ava Becker, Chicago; Mrs. Madia Trovioli, Marshall, Ill; Mrs. Marie Huffman, with her husband in Japan; Mrs. Clara Baker, Fairfield, Calif., Mrs. Gloria Cape, Mrs. Georgia Keefe, Mrs. Bernice Stevenson and Mrs. Mable Bruce, Orlando; four brothers, Charlie, Bob, Thomas and Howard, all of Muncie; four sisters. Mrs. Mattie Clark, Mrs. Polly Burnett of Muncie, Mrs. June (Jane) Whitehead and Mrs. Lina Worley, Stearns; 84 grandchildren and four great-grandchildren.
      Funeral services were held Sunday in the Pleasant Rock Baptist Church, Smithtown, with the Rev. Cox and the Rev. Willie Walker officiating. Burial was in  the Wolf Ridge Cemetery.
      Pallbearers were his sons-in-law, William H. Cate (Cape). Johnny Stevens, Arnold Stephens, John Travioli, Delbert Abrams and N. Keefe. Flower girls were Barbara, Brenda, Margaret and Mary Stephens and Sharon Ann King.

     Funeral services for Mrs. BERTHA ROSS WATSON, a resident of White Oak Junction, who died Friday afternoon at the Scott County, Tenn,. Hospital were held at 2 p.m. in the White Oak Junction Baptist church of which church she was a member. Rev. Earl Davis was in charge of the service.
      Mrs. Watson is survived by four sons, Lester, Chester and Jessie, White Oak Junction, and Luther with the U. S. Navy; three sisters, Mrs. Ollie Duncan and Mrs. Lula Wilson, Revelo; Pearl Watson, Cincinnati; one brother, Silas Ross, Blue Heron.
      Burial was in the Nancy Grave Cemetery.

Tuesday, November 6, 1956. McCreary County Record:
     Mrs. HERZELA ROBERTS WATERS, age 85 years, died Oct 22nd in a Danville hospital after a long illness. The body was returned to the home of a daughter, Mrs. Rachel Waters Meadows, in Stearns from where funeral services were held Wednesday. The Rev. Isadore Childers conducted the funeral services. Burial was in the Nancy Grave Cemetery.
      Mrs. Waters was born in Wayne County and was a member of the Concord Baptist Church. Survivors are two daughters, Mrs. Rachel Meadows, Stearns, Mrs. Essie Lewis of Wayne County and on son. Sherman Roberts, Fort Carson, Colo.   Tuesday, November 6 1956, McCreary County Record:
WADE WATERS, the seven months old son of Buddy and Jacquline Cline Waters, died October 31st at the Jellico Hospital. Graveside services were held Friday at 2:00 o'clock with the Rev. Johnny Bryant officiating. Burial was in the Hickman Cemetery.

Tuesday, February 26, 1957, McCreary County Record:
      BEN WILSON, 91, a retired farmer and timber man, died February 19 at the home of a daughter, Mrs. Margie Watson, in Revelo. Mr. Wilson, one of the county's oldest and best known citizens, was born in the Silverville community where he lived his entire life. He was a member of the Mount Pleasant Church from where funeral services were held on Thursday at 11 o'clock with the Rev. Ledford Perry and the Rev. Hillary Boyatt in charge.
      Survivors are two daughters, Mrs. Margie Watson and Mrs. Rachel Smith, Revelo, one son, Murry Wilson, Strunk; four brothers, "Big" Murry Wilson, Robert N. and Richard, all of Strunk, and Burl of Pine Knot; and four step-children, Ambrose, Elisha and Bill Spradlin and Mrs. Lizzie Daugherty, Strunk.
      Burial was in the Murry Wilson Cemetery.

Tuesday, March 26, 1957, McCreary County Record:
     MURRY WILSON, 83, known throughout the county as "Big" Murry, retired farmer, died Sunday, March 17th, at his home in the Silverville community after an illness of several months.
      Mr. Wilson was born and reared in the Silverville community and was a member of the Mount Pleasant Baptist Church. He was respected by a large circle of friends and neighbors for his honesty and integrity.
      Survivors are two daughters, Miss Polly Wilson, and Mrs. Rosa Thomas, one son, Tierry Wilson, all of Strunk, and three brothers, Robert N. Wilson, Richard Wilson, both of Strunk, and Burl Wilson, Pine Knot.
      Funeral services were held Tuesday at 2 o'clock in the afternoon at the Mount Pleasant Church with Rev. Ledford Perry and Rev. Edd Simpson officiating. Burial was in the Murry Wilson Cemetery.

Tuesday, September 24, 1957, McCreary County Record:
     J. T. STRUNK, who was shot and killed by his father-in-law in Amelia, Ohio on September 11th was returned to Hickman Funeral Home on Friday. Funeral Services were held from the Marshes Siding Church of God on Saturday with the Rev. Arthur Richmond of Corbin in charge. Burial was in the Higganbotham Cemetery near Honey Bee.
      He is survived by his parents, Smith and Gladys L. Strunk, brothers and sisters, Mrs. Glenn Strunk, Marshes Siding, Mrs. Willard Strunk, Cincinnati, Faye, Gene and Chester Strunk, Marshes Siding.

Tuesday, September 24, 1957, McCreary County Record:
     The remains of DILLARD MAXWELL, 35, and HENRY JACK MAXWELL, 31, brothers, killed in an automobile accident Sunday, September 15, two miles North of Falmouth, Ky., on Highway 27, were brought here Monday by Hickman Funeral Home ambulance and taken to the home of Walter Wilson on Tunnel Ridge awaiting burial.
     The Maxwell brothers were sons of Mr. and Mrs. Dave maxwell, former resident of McCreary County now living at 1416 Mansfield Street, Cincinnati. Before moving to Cincinnati they were employed in the Stearns Mines.
      Dillard, a truck driver, and Henry Jack, a factory worker, were on vacation and were coming here, traveling in a pick-up truck on a hunting trip when the accident occured.
      Dillard is survived by four children, Donnie, Dillard, Jr., Diane and Darlene, all living at Hill Top.
      Henry Jack is survived by his wife, Lora Wilson Maxwell, and two children, Phyllis and Carlos, all living at 1226 Greenup Street, Covington.
      Other survivors are their parents, three brothers and four sisters.
      Funeral services were conducted from the Wilson Ridge Baptist Church at 2 o'clock Wednesday afternoon with the Rev. Roy Lewis officiating. Burial was in the Wilson Ridge Cemetery.

     Mrs. DORA SPRADLIN WATTERS, 87, widow of the late Mose Watters, died December 29, 1957 at her home in Strunk after a lingering illness. Mrs. Watters was born in what was then Wayne County (new McCreary County) and lived in the same community practically all of her life time. She was a member of the Beech Grove Baptist Church.
    Survivors are one son, Columbus Ross, Oneida, Tenn.; seven daughters, Miss Dicie Watters, Strunk, with whom her mother made her home, Mrs. Margie Ross, Whitley City, Mrs. Cal West, Williamsburg, Mrs. Elsie Blevins, Mrs. Dorothy King, Mrs. Hazel Boyatt and Mrs. Mabel Reason, all of Muncie, Ind.; one sister, Mrs. Louella Hill of Wayne County, fourty-nine grandchildren and a host of great-gradnchildren.
    The Rev. AlbertChitwood, assisted by Rev. Edd Simpson, conducted funeral services from the Silverville Baptist Church on December 31st, at 10 o'clock in the morning. Burial was in the Dolen Cemetery.

     Mrs. SALLY JONES DAVIS, 75, died Tuesday, January 28, at the home of a niece, Mrs. Joe Gibson, in Smithtown, following a long illness. The body was removed to Hickman Funeral Home where it was prepared for burial and lay in state until funeral service on Thursday.
     Mrs. Davis was a daughter of the late James and Amanda Coffey Jones of Wayne County. she came to McCreary county as a young girl and was a resident of the Day Ridge community. She was a member of the Day Ridge Baptist Church.
     Survivors are one son, Ephriam Davis, Smithtown, one daughter, Mrs. Artie Whitehead, Parkers Lake, and one brother, Silas Jones of Sidney, Ohio.
     Funeral services were conducted from the Day Ridge Church, Thursday at 10 o'clock by the Rev. Levi Cox. Burial was in the Day Ridge Cemetery.
     Pall bearers were Coy and Edward Whitehead, Virgil Gibson and Luther Soloman.

     DICIE WATERS, age 58, of Strunk, Ky., passed away 11:50 a.m. Sunday at the Scott County Hospital following an illness of 6 months.
     She was a member of the Baptist Church and had a host of friends in the community.
     She is survived by 2 sons, Herbert Watters of Muncie, Ind., and Haston Watters of Strunk, Ky.; one brother, C.L Watters of Oneida; six sisters, Mrs. Margie Ross of Whitley City, Ky., Mrs. Elsie Blevins, Mrs. Mable Reason and Mrs. Dorothy King, all of Muncie, Ind., Mrs. Temple West of Williamsburg, Ky., Mrs. Hazel Boyatt of Strunk, Ky., and three grandchildren.     Funeral services were conducted from the Silverville Baptist Church at 11 a.m. Tuesday, May 13, The Revs. Ed Simpson and Albert Chitwood officiated.      Mrs. FLORA WINCHESTER of Ball Knob, Ky., passed away October 23 at the home of her daughter, Mrs. Katheryn Hill, in Muncie, Ind., where she had been visiting for about two weeks.
     She was anative of Parmneyville, Ky., and a member of Beech Grove Church at Ball Knob, Ky.
     Surviving are her husband, Ruffus Winchester, Bald Knob, Ky., and three daughters, Mrs. Katheryn Hill, Muncie, Ind., Mrs. Dorothy Watters, Hartford City, Ind., and Mrs. Mae Watters of Devil Creek, Ky,; and two sons, Winfred Winchester, Muncie, Ind., and Clarence Winchester, Bald Knob; and one step son, Lonnie Winchester, Richmond, Ind., and four step- daughters, Mrs. Ivory Watson, Muncie, Ind., Mrs. Lucy Laxton, Missouri, and Mrs. Artie Troxwell, Bald Knob, and Mrs. Pearley Tapley, Bald Knob.
     Also surviving are two half-brothers, Carl Kidd, Coopersville, Ky,. and Lemar Kidd, Cincinnati, Ohio, and one half-sister, Myrtle Roberts, Mill Springs, Ky.
     Rev. Maynard Blevins conducted the graveside service at Pine Knot Cemetery Saturday, October 25, at 2 p.m. Hickman Funeral Home was in charge.

     LOUVERNA FOSTER MAXWELL, 94, widow of the late Dave Maxwell, died October 21, 1958, at the Scott County Hospital. Mrs. Maxwell was a resident of Bell Farm and had been ill for several weeks, suffering from cancer. She was a devoted mother and wife, a good Christian woman and a devoted member of the Baptist Church for more than fifty years.
     Mrs. Maxwell is survived by five sons, Nelson Maxwell, Bell Farm with whom she made her home, Reuben of Blue Heron, Oda of Stearns, Roosevelt of Smithtown and Willie of Harriman, Tenn., and one daughter, Mrs. Ellen Hill of Blue Heron. Also surviving is one sister. Mrs. Polly Foster, of Stearns.
     Funeral services were held Thursday, October 23 at 1 p.m. at the Head of Wolf Chyurch with Rev. Luther Phillips and Rev. Earl David officiating. Burial was in the Sherd Dobbs Cemetery near Bell Farm.
     Grandsons served as casket bearers.

     JOSEPH W. WATERS, 82, died October 21 at Scott County Hospital in Oneida Following an illness of about two weeks. Mr. Waters was born in Wayne County and moved to McCreary County more than forty years ago, and engaged in farming and various other activities until his retirement about six years ago. Since retirement he had made his home in Whitley City with a brother, Tapley Waters. He was the son of the late Henry Waters and Sara Jane Spradlin Waters.
     He was married to Lou Verna Foster of Whitley County in 1897 and to this union four sons were born, all of whom survive. Mr. Waters was a devoted husband and father and a dood citizen and neighbor. He was a member of the Pleasant Rock Baptist Church.
     Funeral services were held Friday afternoon at 2 o'clock from the Hickory Grove Baptist Church with the Rev. Edd Simpson officiating. Burial was in the Pine Knot Cemetery.
     MR. Waters is survived by four sons, Milton L. Waters, Whitley City, Fred and Walter L. of Revelo and Noble of Cincinnati, one half-brother, Tapley Waters, Whitley City, five grandsons, two grand-daughters and one great-grandson.
     Active pallbearers were Chester Taylor, william Shelly, Gilbert Troxell, Earl Previtt, Hurstle Ball and Bernard Kidd.
     Honorary bearers were Bud Crabtree, Oscar Duncan, John L. Phillips, Charie Cooper, Elmer Strunk, Albert Martin, Ryce Slave and Elbert Ramsey.

     Miss BESSIE LEE DICK, 32, died November 5 at her home at Flat Rock. The daughter of Elizabeth Keith dick and James Dick, she was born and reared in McCreary County and lived all of her life in the Flat Rock community. She was a member of the Flat Rock Baptist Church.
     She is survived by five brothers and sisters, George, Noah, Billie, Margaret and Ida Dick, all living at Flat Rock.
     Funeral services were held from the Flat Rock Church Thursday, November 6, at 10 o'clock with Rev. Charlie Keith, pastor of the church officiating. Burial was in the church cemetery.

     SEIGEL TROXELL, 47, died Thursday at the home of Everett Taylor in Revelo where he had made his home for several months. Mr. Troxell, a retired coal miner and K&T section hand, died suddenly of a heart attack. He was the son of the late Mr. and Mrs. Harvey Troxell, and is survived by one brother, Hillery Troxell, of Muncie, Ind.
     Funeral services were held Saturday afternoon from the home of Mr. and Mrs. Pete Waters with Rev. Sedley King and Rev. Levi Cox in charge. Burial was in the Waters Cemetery at Bald Knob.

     MILLIE JANE GODSEY, 79, died March 26, at Scott County Hospital. Mrs. Godsey was a resident of the Hill Top community and a member of the Mountain View Church.

     MICHAEL E. TROXELL, age 4 1/2 years, died May 14 at the home of his parents in Cincinnati. He had been ill for several weeks prior to his death.
     The body was returned to the Hickman Funeral Home and prepared for burial and taken to the home of his Grandparents, Mr. and Mrs. Harvey Troxell, in Stearns to remain until Saturday afternoon.
     Funeral services were held from the Whitley City Church of God Saturday afternoon at 2 o'clock with the Rev. Johnny Bryant in charge. Burial was in the Hickman Cemetery. Pall bearers were Dallas Hickman, Donald Hickman, Monroe Hicks and Carliss Nevels.
     Michael is survived by his parents, two brothers, his maternal grandparents, Mr. and Mrs. John Canada and his paternal grandparents, Mr. and Mrs. Harvey Troxell of Stearns.

     Rev. BENNIE WHITEHEAD, 74, died October 7th at his home at Hill Top following a prolonged illness. Rev. Whitehead, a retired coal miner, was born in Wayne County but moved to McCreary County as a young man and had lived here most of his life.
    He had been an ordained minister in the Baptist Church for fifty-one years and served as a magistrate from Seventh district from 1950 through 1953. He was a member of the White Oak Junction Baptist Church.
    Rev.      Mrs. ZADA WILSON TRAMMELL, 79, died September 17, at her home Hill Top following a prolonged illness. She was the daughter of the late Susan Jane Maxwell Wilson and James Wilson and the wife of Lincoln Trammell. Mrs. Trammell was a native Kentuckian and was born June 2 1882. She was a member of the Pleasant Rock Baptist Church, Smithtown.

     Mrs. JALIE LEE ROSS, 73, died November 15 at her home at Revelo following a prolonged illness.
     Mrs. Ross, the wife of N. R. Ross was born September 12, 1888, the daughter of Jeff Davis Benson and Prillia Phillips Benson. She was married to N. R. Ross, May 19, 1906 at Huntsville, Tenn., and to this union six children were born. She was a member of the Otter Creek Baptist Church.
     Mrs. Ross is survived by her husband, N. R. Ross, Revelo, five daughters, Mrs. Maggie Justice, Oliver Springs, Tenn.; Mrs. Carrie King, West Frankfort, Illinois; Mrs. Eva Clark, Winchester, Ind.; Mrs Pearl King, Zeigler, Ill., Mrs. Goldie Crabtree, Indianapolis, Ind., one son, Lonzo Ross, Hamilton, Ohio; one brother, Harve Benson, Hill Top and two sisters, Mrs. Lula Ross and Mrs. Dora Benson, both living at Revelo.       Funeral services were held Saturday at 10 a.m. from the First Hickory Grove Church with Rev.      HENRY H. ROSS, 77, Stearns, a retired carpenter, died Sunday, February 11, at Somerset City Hospital.
     Mr. Ross was born October 8, 1884 at Pine Knot and lived all of his life in McCreary County. He was the son of Thomas Ross and Nancy Trammell Ross, both deceased. He was a member of the Baptist Church. The deceased is survived by his wife, Mrs. Lula May Benson Ross; three sons. donald Ross. Whitley City; Arnold Ross, Stearns; Virgil Ross, Revelo, and one daughter, Gertrude Ross, Stearns. One son, Walter, preceded his father in death. Also surviving are the following brothers and sisters, N. R. Ross and James Ross, Revelo; Mrs. Liza Starr, Camp Bordens, Ontario; Mrs. Nancy Smith, Robbins, Tenn.; Mrs. Rebecca Bradley, Pine Knot, and Thomas F. Ross, Fort Pierce, Fla. Nine grandchildren and four great-grandchildren survive.
      Funeral services were held Tuesday at 2 o'clock in the afternoon from the First Hickory Grove Church. Revelo, with Rev. Kawood Whalen officiating.

     Funeral services were held in Hickman Funeral Home Chapel Sunday, March 18, for Mrs. CYNTHIA JEAN (JANE) WILSON ROSS, 72, who died Thursday, March 15, at Abbott Rest Home in Burnside. Rev. Levi Cox was the officiating minister.
     The deceased, a daughter of the late W. M. Wilson and Lou Whitehead Wilson, was born February 9, 1890 in Wayne County but lived most of her life in McCreary County. Mrs Ross is survived by three daughters, Mrs. Ethel Whitehead, Mrs. Gracie Barnett, Mrs.Creasie Griffis; five sons, Jasper, Leamon, Charlie, Lloyd and Ernest Ross, all living in McCreary County. She is also survived by six brothers and one sister, Ale Wilson, Ben Wilson, Cal Wilson, Elihu Wilson, Walter wilson, Shelby Wilson and Mrs. Margaret Barnett.
     Burial was in the Nancy Grave Cemetery.

     JAMES better known as "JEEMER" WHITEHEAD, 77, Veteran of World War I and a retired coal Miner, died March 12, 1962 in the Veterans Hospital in Louisville. He was a resident of the Hill Top community.
     Mr. Whitehead is survived by his wife, Mrs. Margaret Whitehead, six sons and daughters, Russell Whitehead, Truie Watson, Tony Whitehead, Mildred Howell, S. D. Whitehead and Zella Vaughn. Six of his 12 children preceded him in death. Also surviving are three sisters and one brother. Funeral services were held in the Hickman Funeral Home Chapel Saturday with Rev. Levi Cox in charge. Burial was in the Nancy Graves Cemetery.

     LEE TROXELL, 81, a retired coal miner, died April 30, 1962 at his home at Route 1, Union, Kentucky. The body was returned her to Hickman Funeral Home to await funeral service and burial.
     Funeral services were held Thursday at 10 o'clock in the morning from the Hill Top Missionary Baptist Church With burial in the Nancy Grave Cemetery. Rev. Levi Cox of Whitley City was the officiating minister.
    Mr. Troxell, before his retirement worked for Stearns Coal & Lumber Company in their Yamacraw Mine. He was born Aug. 9, 1882 in Wayne County, the son of Will and Kizzie Winchester Troxell, both deceased. He was a member of the Beech Grove Baptist Church.
    Surviving are seven sons, John L., Albert, Delbert and Robert Troxell, all living in Cincinnati. Fred and Eugene Troxell, Forbus, Tenn., Dillard Troxell, Union, Ky., four daughters Mrs. Marie Wilson, Hill Top; Mrs. Delcie West and Mrs. Gracie Terry, Union, Ky., a step-son, Earl Hickman, Stearns, and two sisters, Mrs. Laura Roberts, Stearns and Mrs. Lillie Waters, Whitley City.

     OLLIE REBECCA KING WILSON, the daughter of Braskton and Nancy Blevins King, was born March 5, 1878 in Casey County, Kentucky. She departed this life on May 3, 1962 at her home in Clarkrange, Tennessee.
      Mrs. Wilson was first married to James Moore on May 20, 1898. To this union were born five sons, four of whom preceded their mother in death. On November 27, 1912, she was married to Esau Wilson, who died Feb 1, 1953. To her second marriage were born two daughters and three sons. The daughters preceded their mother in death.
      Mrs. Wilson and her husband moved from Scott County, Tennessee to Wilder at the time of their marriage in 1912. Fentress County has been her home ever since.
     Mrs, Wilson confessed her faith on God and joined the Mount Pleasant Baptist Church, near Strunk, Kentucky about sixty years ago. Since then her faith had never wavered and she served God and her fellowman.
     Mrs. Wilson is survived by four sons; Thomas J. Moore and Woodrow Wilson, Clarkrange, Tennessee, Charles Ross Wilson, Crossville, Tennessee and Admiral Wilson, Port Augusta, South Australia. She is also survived by one step-son and four step-daughters; Henry Moss Wilson and Mrs. America Wilhams, Dayton, Ohio, Mrs. Hettie Ball, Ecorse, Michigan, Mrs. Flonnie Nix, Royalton, Illinois and Mrs. Nona Wilson, Hill Top, Kentucky. Mrs. Wilson leaves thirty-nine grandchildren and step-grandchildren, eighty great-grandchildren and step-great-grandchildren, and two great-great-grandchildren. She is survived by one brother, Calvin King, Helenwood, Tennessee.
     Mrs. Wilson fondly know as "Aunt Ollie" and "Granny" Wilson  will also be sadly missed by a host of relatives, friends and neighbors.
    The funeral was held at 10:00 a.m. Saturday, May 5, 1962, at the Clarkrange Methodist Church, with the pastor, the Rev. Herlan Dalton in charge. Music was furnished by the church choir. Internment was in the Clarkrange Cemetery.

      The deceased was born July 11, 1896, in Wayne county and was a son of Elihu Wilson and Louisa Maxwell Wilson.
      Mr. Wilson worked for Stearns Coal and Lumber Company at their Worley mine during his active years. He was a member of the Worly Baptist Church.
      Surviving are his wife, Martha Whitehead Wilson; one sister, Mrs. Cynthia Troxell, Ison, Ky., and three brothers, Francis Wilson, George Wilson and Burl Wilson, all of McCreary County.
      Funeral services were held from the home Friday at 2 p.m. with Rev. James Godsey of Delta in charge. Burial was in the Pine Hill Cemetery.

     JESSE SIMPSON WATERS, 54, died Wednesday, August 14th, at a Danville, Ky., hospital. Mr. Waters had been ill for more then fifteen years.
     The deceased was born October 29, 1908 at Worley, Ky., and was a son of the late Lewis Waters and Nannie Troxell Waters. He was a member of the Pleasant Rock Baptist Church.
      Survivors are a daughter, Juanita Waters of Hill Top; six sisters; Mrs. Ernest Jones, Mrs. Elbert Hughes, Mrs. Fred King, Jr., Mrs. Clyde Henson, Mrs. Theodore Wright, Mrs Otto Rains; and two brothers, Sylvester Waters and William Waters.
     Funeral services were held Saturday, August 17, at Pleasant Rock Baptist Church, Smithtown, with Rev. Ernest Perry officiating. Burial was in the Hickman Cemetery.

Grant, Muncie, Ind., still born Wednesday afternoon, August 7th at Ball Hospital. Rev. Stephens Sewell was the officiating minister. burial was in Elm Ridge Cemetery.      Besides the parents, survivors are a sister Lori Lee, the grandparents.       OBIE WINCHESTER, 70, disabled coal miner, died Monday, November 4, at the Stephens Rest Home in Pine Knot, terminating a prolonged illness.
      Mr. Winchester was born April 22, 1893, in Wayne County, the son of John Riley Winchester and Eliza Ann Troxell, both deceased.
      He was a coal miner and worked at Stearns Coal and Lumber Company's White Oak Junction and Cooperative Mines until ill health forced his retirement. He was a member of the White Oak Junction Baptist Church.
      Surviving are; two daughters, Mrs. Endia Bowden, Muncie, Ind.; Mrs. Flora Gregory, Pine Knot; four sons, Bill, Daniel, Hubert and Jackie Winchester, all of Oxford, Ind.; three brothers, Bill Winchester, Hill Top; Joe Winchester, Muncie, Ind.; Fred Winchester, Oxford, Ind.; and two sisters, Mrs. Mary Harles and Mrs. Maude Cook, both of Muncie, Ind.
      Funeral services were held Wednesday, November 6, at 1 p.m. in the White Oak Junction Baptist Church with Rev. Stanley Davis and Rev. Arnold Stephens officiating. Burial was in the Sherd Dobbs Cemetery.

      DILLARD TROXELL, 32, died instantly November 18, 1963, at Milford, Ohio, when the car in which he was riding, was hit by a train at a railroad crossing.
      Troxell was born at Yamacra, Ky., and was a son of the late Lee Troxell and Clementine Smithers Troxell. He is survived by his widow, Mrs. Ruby Troxell, two sons, Dillard Troxell, Jr., 2 years old, and Kinney Ray Troxell, one year old, all living in Milford; three sisters, Mrs. Marie Wilson, Hill Top; Mrs. Delsie West, Burlington, Ky. and Mrs. Gracie Terry, Cincinnati; seven brothers, Earl, Hickman, Stearns; Robert Troxell, Indianapolis; Lester, Albert and Delbert Troxell, all of Cincinnati, Eugene and Fred Troxell of Forbus, Tenn.
      Funeral services were held November 22, 1963 at Craven Funeral Home in Milford with Rev. Armstrong officiating. Burial was in the newtown Cemetery.

      CLEMIE MAY WATSON, 53, died February 5 at her home in Whitley City terminating a long illness.
       The deceased was born June 8, 1909 in Wayne County and was a daughter of Jason Cordell and Mary Cordell Strunk. She was a member of the Whitley City Church of God.
      She was married March 31, 1929 to Johnnie Watson of Smithtown who survives. Besides her husband she is survived by two daughters, Mrs. Lexie Wright, Cincinnati and Miss. Lillie Watson, Whitley City; three sons, Bravel Watson, Wiborg; Vinson Watson, Eaton, Ind.; Millford Earl Watson, Whitley City; her mother, Mrs. Mary Strunk, Whitley City; six brothers, Mitchell Cordell, Revelo; Ted Cordell, Marshes Siding; William Cordell, Revelo; Lloyd Cordell, Revelo; Ellis Cordell, Indiana; Dester Cordell, Cincinnati, Ohio; three sisters, Mrs. Myrtle Wilson, Somerset; Mrs. Carrie Salters, Florida; and Mrs. Pearl Hickman, Pine Knot. Also surviving are ten grandchildren.
      Funeral services were held Friday at 1 p.m. from the Whitley City Church of God with Rev. J. H. Bryant officiating. Burial was in Flat Rock Cemetery.

      GEORGE WILSON, 61, retired coal miner, died March 24, at his home in Revelo, terminating a long illness.
      Mr. Wilson was born February 6, 1903 in McCreary County and was a son of the late Elihu Wilson and Louisa Maxwell Wilson.
      A retired coal miner, Mr. Wilson during this active life, was a trusted and loyal employee of Stearns Coal and Lumber Company. He was a member of the United Baptist Church. He was married May 22, 1925 at Oneida, Tenn, to Lula Ross, who survives.
     Besides his widow, Mr. Wilson is survived by two daughters, Mrs. Marilyn Dobbs, Mrs. Carol Denton Wilson, both living in Indianapolis, Ind., and five sons, Clyde Wilson, Stearns; Clifford and Carl Wilson, Revelo; Cleo Wilson, Pine Knot, and George Edward Wilson, Indianapolis. One daughter Mildred preceded her father in death.
      Also surviving are two brothers, Murrel Wilson, Stearns, and Francis Wilson, Hill Top, and one sister, Mrs. Cynthia Troxell, Isham, Ky.
      Funeral services was held March 26th in the Ross Grove Baptist Church with Rev. Levi Cox and Rev. Edd Simpson oficiating. Burial was in the Ross Grove Cemetery.
      Pall bearers were Dean King, Walter Waters, Doyle Waters, Leo Dolen, Dean Watson and Cliff Bishop.

      The deceased was born at Yamacraw, Kentucky May 11, 1893, and was a daughter of the late Tolbert Roberts and Reida Troxell Roberts.
      Survivors are: Her husband George Troxell, one son Clyde Troxell, Hill Top; one daughter Mrs. Myrtle Brooks, Cincinnati; two brothers, Grant Roberts, Stearns, Rt.1; Elisha Roberts, Hill Top; and one sister, Mrs. Roxie Collins, Cincinnati.

     WILLIE E. WATERS, 56, Stearns, retired coal miner, died Friday, May 29, 1964 in a Danville Hospital, terminating a three months illness.
      The deceased was born December 10, 1897 in the Bald Knob community, McCreary County, and lived here all of his life. He was a son of Noah Russell Waters and Dicie Ann Kidd Waters, both deceased. He was united in marriage October 19, 1918 at Carmago, Ky to Rosa Coil and to this union eleven children were born, ten of whom survive. Mrs. Waters was a member of the Beech Grove Baptist church.
      Survivors are his wife, Mrs. Rosa Coil Kidd; six sons, Josh Waters, Uniontown, Ky; Ottis Waters, Charlestown, S. C.; LeRoy Waters, Chester Waters and Paul Waters, all of Stearns; Lonnie Waters, Jackson, Ky, four daughters, Mrs. Peaarl Tapley, Mrs Christine Watson and Mrs. Barbara Smith, Stearns; Mrs. Jean Cress, Delphia, Ky; one brother Nelson Waters, Stearns, three sisters, Mrs. Mary King, Smithtown, Mrs Verda Tapley, Whitley City and Mrs. Rachel Meadows, Stearns and thirty-four grandchildren.

     Funeral services for SP5 ELIJAH CLINTON MILLER, killed in an automobile accident at Killen, near Fort Hood, Texas August 27, was held in the New Lite Baptist Church Tuesday, September 1, at 2 p.m. Rev. Ledford Perry and Rev. Oscar Morgan were the officiating ministers. The deceased was honnored with military rites by an Honor Guard from Fort Knox. Burial was in the New Lite Cemetery.
      Survivors are his wife, Anna Bell Gilreath Miller, his mother, Mrs. Ethel Watson Miller, and three brothers, Calvin, Charlie and Obie Miller, all of Strunk, Ky.

      THOMAS S. DAVIS, SR. 701 West 5th Street, Muncie, Ind., passed away Saturday, November 28, at Ball Memorial Hospital. He had been in poor health for several years.
      He was born in Wayne County December 23, 1887 being 76 years eleven months and five days old. He was united in marriage to Ollie Clark August 10, 1910 and to this union were born eight children. A daughter, Evalene, preceded him in death.   Surviving are his wife, Mrs. Ollie Davis, three daughters, Mrs. Roy Earls, Mrs. Roman Braun and Mrs. Carl New; four sons, Russell, Estel, Limuel and Thomas Davis Jr., all of Muncie; three sisters, Mrs Polly Burnett, Monticello, Ky; Mrs. Jane Whitehead, Hill Top, Ky; Mrs. Mattie Steel, Muncie; three brothers Rev. Charlie Davis and Bob Davis, Muncie; Howard Davis, Yorktown, Ind.
      Services were conducted at the Memorial Baptist Church with Rev. Ross Dobbs, the pastor of the church, officiating. Burial was in the Garden of Memory with the Piepho Funeral Home in charge.
      Mr. Davis lived in Wayne County several years and filled the office as deputy sheriff before moving to McCreary County. where he spent several years where he was employed with the Stearns Coal and Lumber Company. He was mine foreman at Worley and also at Yamacraw. He was superintendent at Paintcliff Mine.
      He was elected Sheriff of McCreary County in1922 and served a four year term. He was a member of the Pleasant Rock Baptist Church at Smithtown, Ky. He moved to Muncie 23 years ago from McCreary County.
      In World War II he was plant guard at three Muncie factories---Brodericks, Delco Battery and he retired as guard from Ball Brothers plant. He was a kind and loving husband and father and a wonderful Christaian who loved and served the Lord. We will miss his presence and kind words, but God loved him best of all. He took him to live with him in that building not amde with hands. Our loss is his gain, an "Eternal Home in Heaven for ever to be with the Lord." ---Sadly missed, his wife, Ollie Davis and Children.

      MARTHA ANN WILSON, 77, of 823 12 Adams Street, Springfield, Illinois, died January 22, 1965 at Memorial Hospital in Springfield. The body was returned to Hickman Funeral Home in Stearns for burial.
      The deceased was born in Wayne county April 28, 1887, a daughter of the late Alonzo Whitehead and Rosa Jones Whitehead. She was the widow of the late John Wilson of McCreary county. Mrs. Wilson was a member of the Freedom Baptist Church in Wayne County.
      Survivors are grandaughter, Mrs. Earnest Keith of Springfield; two sisters, Mrs. Anna Montgomery, Indianapolis; and Mrs. Lula Hall, Monticello, and a brother, Willie Whitehead, Somerset.
      Funeral services was held Monday at 1 p.m. in the Clay Hill Baptist Church with Cal Wilson of Stearns and Esker Phillips of Delta officiating. Burial was in the Phillips Cemetery at Delta.

      ROGER RICHARD WILSON, 28, was killed April 22, in a railroad crossing accident in Minneapolis, Minnesota. the body was flown to Oneida and prepared for burial by Hickman Funeral Home.
      Wilson was born at Worley, Ky., the son of Ale and Bertie Daugherty Wilson. He was married to the former Miss Wilma Daugherty. they have one child, Roger Dewayne.
      Funeral services was held at 2 p.m. April 25, at First Hickory Grove Church. Rev. Everett King and Rev. Carmel Stanley officiated. Burial was in Lower Hickory Grove Cemetery. Pall bearers were: Gilbert Troxell, Francis Bell, Dorman Ross, Phillip Kidd, Chester Watters and Paul Davenport.

     Mrs. ABBIE NEELY GODSEY, 78, widow of the late Perry Godsey, died Tuesday, June 22 in a Cleveland, Tenn., hospital after being admitted a few days previously for treatment. Mrs. Godsey had been in ill health for several months.
      The deceased was born in Wayne County. Kentucky February 14, 1887. After her marriage to Perry Godsey they moved to Cleveland, Tenn. and lived there for a few years before moving to Stearns. Stears was her home until six years ago when she returned to Cleveland, Tenn., to make her home with a daughter, Mrs. Mary Hardin. Mrs. Godsey was a member of the Bethel Baptist Church. She was a devoted companion, a kind neighbor and a kind and loving mother to her children.
      Survivors are five daughters, Mrs. Mary Hardin, Cleveland, Tenn Mrs. Minnie Neal, Detroit, Mich.; Mrs. Ethel Strunk, Dayton, Ohio, Mrs. Myrtle Ball, Pine Knot; Mrs. Ollie Mae Wright, Pensacola, Fla., and a son, Robert Godsey. Four children preceded their mother in death. Also surviving are two sisters, Mrs. Cora Brown, Kidder, Ky., and Mrs. Rosa Jones, Ritner; twenty-two grandchildren and eleven great-grandchildren.
      Funeral services were held Thursday at 2 p.m. in the Hickory Grove Baptist church with Rev. Raymond Meadows of Williamsburge and Rev. Alfred Jones officiating. Burial was in Stearns Cemetery.
      Pall bearers were her grandsons, Merrell, Carnation and Perry Harden, Roger, Ray and Lindell Ball, Gene and Jack Strunk.

      MAUDIE WATERS WATSON, 25, beloved wife of Robert Watson, died January 25, 1966 at her home in Muncie, Indiana, terminating a long illness.
      She was born at Revelo, Ky., January 21, 1939, and was a daughter of Mrs. Elizabeth King Waters, Revelo, and the late Marion Waters. She was married to Robert Watson and to this union three children were born, all of whom survive. She was a member of the Ross Grove Baptist Church.
      Survivors are her husband, three children, Larry Allen, Michael Gordon and Diana Lynn Watson, all of Muncie; her Mother; two brothers, Lawrence Waters, Revelo; and Dester Waters, Muncie; and four sisters, Mrs. Josie B.        LEONARD GREGORY, 51, a resident of the Slavens community, died at Scott County Hospital Monday, April 11.  He had been ill for several months prior to his death.
       The deceased was born September 13, 1914, at Slavens, and was a life-long resident of the same community. He was a son of the late Bud Gregory and Emma Vaughn Gregory. He followed the occupation of coal mining and farming.
      The deceased is survived by his wife, Mrs. Odell Gregory, six children, Elbert, roy, Eugene and Earnest Gregory, all of Attica, Ind.; Homer and Lois Gregory, Slavens; a step-son, Elmer Roberts, Slavens; four brothers Skyler, Eddison and Coolidge Gregory of Slavens and Guy Gregory of Stearns; and three sisters, Mrs. Dova Roberts, Laura and Versa Gregory, all of Slavens.

     BENNIS THOMAS MAXWELL, 41, coal miner and farmer, died April 14 in the Scott County Hospital two hours after he was stricken with heart seizure at his home in the Slavens community.
     Maxwell was born May 11, 1924, in Wayne County, the son of the late John Maxwell. He was a member of the Cedar Grove Baptist Church.

      Mr. Watters was born June 12, 1884, in Whitley County. He was a son of the late Henry Watters and Jane Hayes Watters. He was a life-long resident of McCreary County, a member of the Hayes Creek Church of God and a well-known and respected citizen of his community.
      Surviving are his wife, Mrs. Nevada Watters, Whitley City; two sons, Rev. Leslie Watters and Butler Watters, Whitley City; four daughters, Mrs. Myrtle Vangorn, Chicago, Ill.; Mrs. Clara Mason, Stearns; Mrs. Mary Powell, Omaha, Tex.; Mrs. Sue Hoff, Columbia, S.C.; three brothers, John, Jeff and George Watters, all living in Whitley City, and a sister, Mrs. Sue Patrick, living in Oklahoma.

      The deceased was born December 21, 1919, in McCreary County and lived all of her life here. She was a daughter of the late Jasper Ross and Elmina King Ross.

     LUTHER WINCHESTER, 66, prominent merchant, died suddenly June 15 at his home in Stearns. His health had been affected by a heart condition for sometime, however, he remained fairly active until the time of his death.
      Winchester was born August 6, 1899, at Yamacraw, Ky. He was the son of Frank and Elizabeth Troxell Winchester, both deceased.
      The deceased spent most of his life in the merchandising field, first operating a store at White Oak Junction and later at Stearns. In public affairs he served a term as magistrate and in 1937 was defeated in a bid for the Republican nomination for sheriff by the late G.C. Walker. Luther was a friendly, industrious person devoted to his family and his church. He was a progressive citizen always ready to give a boost to the county of his birth.
      In 1931, he was married to the former Miss Elizabeth Morgan of Sawyer, An only son, Dr. M. A. Winchester, and his widow survive. The deceased was a member of the First Baptist Church of Stearns, a trustee of the church for many years and a faithfull member of the Men's Bible Class, Members of the class were his honorary pall bearers. The funeral service was held Friday, June 17, in the Stearns Church with the pastor, Rev. Lee Mason, officiating. Burial was in the Pine Knot Cemetery.
      Other survivors were three brothers Harry, Vero Beach, Fla.; Frank Jr., Oakwood, Va.; Haney, Stearns. Ky.; and two sisters Mrs. Kitty Newport, Stearns, and Mrs. Mamie Dennard, Lake Worth, Fla.
      Active pall bearers were Eugene Morgan, Arlin Winchester, Robert Strunk, Willard Winchester, Glenn Peterson and Winfred Gregory.

      MELTON FRANK ROSS, SR., 86, retired merchant and well known citizen of Pine Knot, died Saturday, October 8, in the Scott County Hospital, terminating a long illness.
      The deceased was born October 25, 1879, in Whitley County, the son of Alvin Ross and Carolyn Dople Ross. He was married July 28, 1906 to Mollie Davenport and of the union five children were born, four of whom survive.
      Mr. Ross moved to Pine Knot from Jellico, Tenn in 1926 and engaged in the merchandise business. He was actively interested in the affairs of his community, was prominent in the political affairs of the County, and was widely known and respected by his business associates throughout the county. He was a member of the Pine Knot Missionary Baptist Church.
      Surviving Mr. Ross are his wife, a daughter, Mrs. Nadine Creekmore, Indianapolis, Ind., four sons, Frank Ross, Jr., Sarasota, Fla., Arleis Ross, Dade City, Fla., and Smith G. Ross, Pine Knot, and one sister, Mrs. Dessie Hughes, Lafollette, Tenn.
      Funeral services were conducted by the Rev. Herman King, Monday, October 10, at 2 p.m. from the Pine Knot Missionary Baptist Church. Burial was in the Pine Knot Cemetery. Active pall bearers were Scott Creekmore; Chester Hill; Eldred Musgrove; Lucian Bryant; and Earl Anderson.
      Honorary pall bearers were Leon Hayes; Dorman Strunk; Ethelbert Creekmore; Fred Morgan; Luther Hughes; Charles Creekmore; Clellan King; Dewey Spradlin; Francis A. Creekmore and Leonard Lovett.

     URISE WINFRED DAVIS, 79, a resident of Parkers Lake, Ky., died Wednesday, October 12, at the Scott County Hospital. He had been ill for many months before his death.
      The deceased was born November 13, 1888, at Keno, Ky., and was a son of the late Dutton Davis and Millie Wilson Davis. He was a life-long resident of the Parkers Lake community, a member of the Keno Baptist Church and a retired coal miner.
      Surviving is his wife, Mrs. Dolly Davis, one daughter, Linda Sue Davis, both living at Parkers Lake; four brothers Paris Davis, Somerset; Lester Davis, Burnside; Theoplus Davis, Indianapolis, and Beckham Davis, New Castle, Ind., and a sister, Mrs. Cloa Branscum, Odessa, Texas.
      Funeral services were conducted Saturday in the Walker's Chalep Baptist Church with the Rev. Clark Stephens officiating. Burial was in the church cemetery.
      Serving as active pall bearers were Sam Davis, Arnold Wilson, Homer Davis, Virgil Taylor, Billy Davis and LeRoy Davis.

      PETE WATERS, 79, beloved husband of Elizabeth Troxell Waters for 58 years, died at his home Sept 13, following a long illness. He lived on Route 2, Strunk, Ky.
      The deceased was born September 8, 1887, son of the late Mose Waters and Lineley (LINDEY) Winchester Waters. He was united in marriage to Elizabeth Troxell, October 8, 1908 and to this union eleven children were born, eight survive and three are deceased.
      Mr. Waters was a devoted companion, a kind and loving father and grandfather and a wonderful friend to everyone. He was a member and a deacon of the Ross Grove Baptist Church. He was  faithful to his church. Mr. Ross was a retired coal miner. Survivors are his widow, Elizabeth Troxell Waters, five daughters, Mrs. Flossie Spradlin, Miss Martha Waters, Mrs. Alpha Gregory and Mrs. Retha Vaughn, all living at Strunk, And Mrs. Zora Whitehead, Stearns, Ky.; three sons, Harlen Waters, Strunk, Ky.; Pat and Huger Waters, Muncie, Ind. One son Millard, 48 was killed in a mine accident in 1960. Also two infant daughters are deceased.
      Mr. Waters had 50 grandchildren and 38 great-grandchildren. The funeral service was held at 10 a.m., September 16,, at Ross Grove Church with Rev. Sid Taylor officiating. Burial was in the Waters cemetery. Pall bearers were his grandsons, Everett and Leon Waters, Donald and Rondal Gregory and Joe and Jack Whitehead.

Nellie Watters, 57, beloved widow of Nim Watters, died April 6, at her home in Whitley City. She was born in Wayne County, Kentucky, January 5, 1910 the daughter of Euliss and Elizabeth Thompson Branscum. She was a housewife and a member of the Wolf Creek Baptist Church. The funeral service was held there at 2 p.m. Sunday with Rev. Levi Cox officiating. Burial was in Coffey Graveyard. Her survivors are the following children, Ester Watters, Bonnie Watters and Speedy Watters, all of Route 1 Stearns, Ky. The following step-children survives: Jim Watters, Oberlin, Ohio; Ray Watters, Hill Top; Effie Jones, Hill Top; Etta Watters and James Watters, also of Hill Top. She is also survived by 37 grandchildren and three great-grandchildren. Leonard Waters, 3755 Elsmere Avenue, Norwood, Ohio died suddenly Sunday, April 23rd at the Good Samaritan Hospital, Cincinnati, Ohio. He was 46 years old, the son of Mrs. Jane Waters, Muncie, Ind., formerly of Stearns, and the late Henry Waters. He was a native of McCreary County, but had lived in Norwood for the past fifteen years where he was employed by the Complete Auto Transit, Inc., Cincinnati. He was a World War II veteran; a 32nd Degree Mason and also a member of the Grotto. He is survived by his wife, Dorothy Bryant Waters; his mother, four sisters, Mrs. Elaney Gregory and Mrs. Dicie Roysden, Stearns, Mrs. Truie Vaughn, Revelo, Mrs. Hattie Reel, Muncie, Ind.; and three brothers, Dillard, Curtis and Glenford Waters, all of Muncie, Ind. Masonic funeral services were held Tuesday, April 25 at the Treadway Funeral Home, Norwood, Ohio with Evanston Lodge No. 695 S.A.M.; Royal Arch Chapter No. 44 and Knights Templar participating. His body was returned to Stearns by the Treadway Funeral Home on Wednesday where he was buried in the Stearns Cemetery. The Rev. Levi Cox conducted graveside services at the Stearns Cemetery.

He was born in McCreary County, January 15, 1933 and was a son of the late Willie Miller and Ethel Miller Watson, Revelo. He moved to Indiana from Whitley City eighteen years ago. Joe Strunk, 71, Whitley City, Ky., died Thursday, Aug. 17, at Scott County Hospital. He had been ill for several weeks. The deceased was born at Indian Head, KY. January 22, 1896. He was the son of James and Sally Bryant Strunk. He was a life resident of the county and followed coal mining as a means to support a large family of children. He was a friendly man and widely known in the county. Rev. Cornelius Godsey, 78, retired carpenter and Baptist preacher, of Revelo, died Sunday, January 21, 1968 in the Oak Ridge, Tenn. hospital. He had been ill for several weeks. Rev. Godsey was born May 17, 1889 in Wayne County, and was a son of the late Shade and Matilda Abbott Godsey. He came to Stearns as a young man and was a faithful employee of Stearns Coal and Lumber until ill health forced his retirement. He was an ordained Baptist preacher and, before ill health forced his retirement, filled the pulpit in many of the Baptist churches throughout McCreary and adjoining counties. He was a member of the First Hickory Grove Church, Revelo, a devout Christian who lived his religion in his everyday life. He was a devoted husband and father. Survivors are his wife, Mrs. Amanda Godsey, Revelo; sons, Cline, Henry and James all of Cincinnati, Ohio; Arnold of Oak Ridge, Tenn.; daughters Mrs. Clyde Jones, Mrs. Marshall Stearns and Mrs. Edgar Burke, all of Cincinnati; and Mrs. Robert Gibson, Revelo. One son, Clarence, was killed in World War II. Funeral services were held Wednesday, January 24, at First Hickory Grove Church, Revelo, with Rev. Roy Blevins and Rev. Charlie Taylor officiating. Cynthia Wilson Troxell entered Eternal Life Wednesday, April 3, 1968 at the Whitesburg Appalachian Regional Hospital, Whitesburg, Kentucky. She was the daughter of the late Elihu and Louisa Maxwell Wilson, She was a member of the old Regular Baptist Church. She was born April 17, 1886, being 81 years, 11 months and 16 days of age at the time of her passing. She is survived by her husband Charlie W. Troxell, and three daughters, Mrs. Maggie Gregory, Kellogg, Iowa; Mrs. Grace Grimes, Scuddy, Ky. and Mrs. Menda Gumm, Isom, Ky. Also surviving are two brothers. Burl Wilson, Stearns, Ky and Francis Wilson, Hill Top, 25 grandchildren and 40 great-grandchildren, as well as a host of other relatives and friends. Funeral services were held Saturday, April 6, at 2:00 p.m. in the Isom Presbyterian Church Isom, Kentucky with Rev. Willie Turner and Rev. Ed Henegar officiating. Mae Keith Godsey (Mrs.), 86, Stearns, died Monday, July 15, at Scott County Hospital, Oneida, after an illness of only one week.  The deceased was born March 28, 1882 at Delta in Wayne County, and was a daughter of the late Tate Keith and Elsa Nevels Keith. She was married June 14, 1898 to Reuben Godsey who preceded her in death. She came to Stearns from Wayne County in 1953. She was a member of the Freedom Baptist Church in Wayne County.  Mrs. Godsey is survived by two daughters, Mrs. Alta Roberts, Stearns and Mrs. Hattie McCullah, a resident of the state of Florida; and three sons, Ottis Godsey and Gradie Godsey of Cincinnati and Clarence Godsey, a resident of New Jersey. four sons and two daughters preceded her in death.  Funeral services were held Thursday, June 18 at 10:30 a.m. in the Hickman Funeral Home Chapel with the Rev. Ardell Shelton officiating. Burial was in the Foster Cemetery in Wayne County with Hickman Funeral Home in charge. Her grandsons served as active pall bearers.

He moved to Stearns as a young man to work with the Stearns Coal an Lumber Company electricians, a job he held until his retirement last year, He was a member of the Baptist Church. Mr. Martin was a quiet and gentle man, a diligent worker, and a highly respected citizen, devoted to his family and friends. Survivors are his wife Retha Foster Martin, five children, Mrs. Lois Martin Stephens; Mrs Joyce Martin Meece, Jack and Delyn Martin, all of Stearns and James H. Martin, Louisville; his mother, Mrs. Kizzie Coffey Martin; one brother, Isaac Martin, Coopersville, Ky., and two sisters, Mrs. Bessie Selessinger, Jacksonville, Fla., and Grace Martin, Louisville. Funeral services were held today, Tuesday, at 2 p.m. in the Stearns First Baptist Church with the Rev. Lee Mason officiating. Burial was in Stearns Cemetery with Hickman Funeral Home in charge.

Lindie Whitehead, born July 12, 1875 in Wayne County. The daughter of Issac Mason and Rhoda New Mason, who both preceded her in death, died at Scott County Hospital Sept. 30, 1969, being 94 years, 2 months and 18 days old. She married Bennie Whitehead (who preceded her in death) Dec. 24, 1899. To this union was born 6 children all still living: Oscar Whitehead of Whitley City, Luther Whitehead of Whitley City, Perlie Phillips of Marion, Ind., Grover Whitehead of Whitley City, Goldie Matthews of Whitley City and Leamon Whitehead of Whitley City; 22 grandchildren, 34 great-grandchildren and 3 great-great-grandchildren, and a host of friends and relatives to mourn her passing. The funeral was conducted October 3, at Hickman Funeral Home by Rev. Clark Stephens, singing by the Choir of the Second Baptist Church. Burial in Clark Cemetery in Wayne County.

Kelly (Garnett) Godsey, was killed in a car wreck Thursday night on Ky Highway 92. He was resident of Hill Top.  The victim was killed when his car went out of control and struck a tree near the Hickman Cemetery. Godsey was traveling in the direction of Stearns, and was driving alone.  The victim was pronounced dead on arrival at Somerset City Hospital from a broken neck.  Godsey was born at Hill Top, Jan 23, 1942, the son of Walker and Ada White Godsey. He was a life long resident of McCreary County and worked as a common laborer.  Surviving are two brothers and five sisters, Ernest Godsey, Ft. Recovering, OH; Richard Godsey, Hill Top;  Mrs. Martha Jeffery and Mrs. Velma Cook, Sidney, OH; Mrs. Addie Bullock, Louellen, KY; Mrs. M. Worley, Revelo and Mrs. Ruth Hill, Hill Top. Funeral services were held Sunday, Feb. 1 at 1:00 p.m. in the Hickman Funeral Home Chapel with Rev. T.J. Watters officiating. Burial was in  Hickman Cemetery at Hill Top. Ale Wilson, 68, of Stearns, died Sunday, February 8 in Central Baptist Hospital, Lexington. He had been ill for several months.  The deceased was born October 1, 1901 at Worley, Ky., the son of the late William Wilson and Laverna Whitehead Wilson. He was a lifelong resident of McCreary and a retired coal miner. He was married December 17, 1927 to Alberta Daugherty, who survives. Surviving besides his wife are three daughters, Mrs. Jaunita Neal, Covington, Mrs. Inez Taylor and Mrs. Wanda Heath, Walton, Ky,; three sons, Carrol, Lonnie and Clabe Wilson, Stearns; five brothers, Elihu, Ben, Cal, Shelby and Walker Wilson and one sister, Mrs. Margaret Barnett.  Funeral services were held Tuesday at 2:00 p.m. in the First Hickory Grove Church with Rev. Tuesday, March 10, 1970, McCreary County Record: Lula Lee Jones, 59, rural mail carrier on Route 1, died early Friday morning, March 6, at her home in Smithtown of an apparent heart attack. She had been in ill health for the past 18 months.  She was born April 4, 1910 at Devil Creek, Ky., the daughter of the late Lewis Waters and Nannie Troxell Waters. She was married October 29, 1924 at Winfield, Tenn., to Earnest Jones who preceded her in death. Mrs. Jones was a life-time resident of the Smithtown Community and a member of the Pleasant Rock Baptist Church.  Surviving are eight children, James H. Jones and Mrs. Clara Flynn, Whitley City; Gene and Phillip Jones, Smithtown; Mrs. Georgia Adkins, Somerset; Donald Jones and Mrs. Shirley Key, Marshes Siding;  Morris Jones, Burnside; one brother Alonzo Waters, Cincinnati; and four sisters, Mrs. Artie Hughes, Sidney,  Ohio; Mrs. Dicca Henson and Mrs. Beulah Rains, Batavia, Ohio and Mrs. Flora King, Cincinnati.  Funeral services  were held Sunday, March 8, at 2:00 p.m. in the Pleasant Rock Baptist Church with the Rev. Delbert R. Troxell, born on June 3, 1920, passed away at the age of 49 years on March 15, 1970.  The
deceased was the beloved husband of Julia Helton Troxell, devoted father of Danny Lee Troxell, and son of the late Franklin Lee and Clementine Troxell. The deceased was born May 7, 1896 in Wayne County, Kentucky, the daughter of the late William Whitehead and Sarah Tucker Whitehead. She was married to Harrison Jones, who  preceded her in death. Mrs. Jones who was a housewife and came here 16 years ago from Wayne County. of Hill Top, Ky., she was born July 21, 1924, in McCreary County. She was married November 15, 1940, to Fred Ross, who survives, and was a member of the Baptist Church.  Besides her husband, she is survived by

Bonnie Dean Troxell, 31, Hill Top, Kentucky, died Tuesday morning, April 6, 1971, of injuries suffered in an auto accident at Smithtown, Ky. She was on her way to work at the Stearns Shirt Factory when the accident
occurred. Opal Worley, riding with her, was also killed and another passenger was hospitalized.  The deceased was born October 30, 1939 in McCreary County, the daughter of Clyde Ray Troxell and Juanita Benson

Frank Cooper, 91, well-known resident of the Pine Knot community, died Monday, September 27, in Somerset City Hospital, terminating a prolonged illness. His widow, Mrs. Kizzie Winchester Cooper, survives.  Mr. Cooper, a native of McCreary County, was born April 13, 1880. He was a son of the late Wilse Cooper and Elizabeth Shepard Cooper. He was a member of the Baptist Church and a retired coal miner.  Besides his widow, he is survived by five sons and five daughters, Wilburn Cooper of Somerset, Ernest and Everett Cooper of Pine Knot, Quentin Cooper of Florida, Ted Cooper of Arkansas, Mrs. Zora King of Texas, Mrs. Grace King of Pine Knot, Mrs. Juanita Richie of Illinois, Mrs. Gladys Hicks of Whitley City and Mrs. Joyce Strunk of Alabama.  Funeral services were conducted Wednesday at 2 p.m. from Hickman Funeral Home Chapel with the Rev. He was a life long resident of McCreary County and was employed as a coal miner.  Survivors, besides his widow, and two brothers, Golman Godsey and Robert Godsey, both of Route 1, Stearns; three sisters, Mrs. Ida Tucker and Mrs. Mae Whitehead, Route 1, Stearns, and Mrs. Clara Troxell, Route 1, Whitley City.  The Rev. Mrs. Lula B. Wilson, 64, a resident of Pine Knot, died Saturday, Oct. 16, in Somerset City Hospital. Mrs. Wilson was admitted to the hospital Saturday, Oct. 9, after suffering a heart attack. She suffered a second attack last Saturday from which she did not recover.  The deceased was born Jan. 4, 1907, in McCreary County, the daughter of the late Jasper Ross and Elmina King Ross. She was married to George Wilson who preceded her in death. She was a member of the United Baptist Church, Pine, Knot.  She is survived by a daughter, Mrs. Marilyn Dobbs, Indianapolis, Ind.; four sons, Carl Wilson, Attica, Ind.; Cleo Wilson, Pine Knot; Carol Denton Wilson, Williamsport, Ind., and Edward W. Wilson, Indianapolis, Ind., and one brother, Silas Ross, also of Indianapolis.  Funeral services were conducted Tuesday, Oct. 19, at 10 a.m. in the United Baptist Church, Pine Knot, with the Rev.
