Welcome to the Muhlenberg County KYGenWeb Project

Located in Kentucky's rolling western coal fields and bounded in the east by the Green River, Muhlenberg County was formed in 1798 from parts of Logan and Christian Counties. The county seat is Greenville.

The county was named in honor of John Peter Muhlenberg, a Continental Army general during the American Revolution.

Many of the men General Muhlenberg commanded would eventually settle in that part of Kentucky that would later become Muhlenberg County.
