Childress, Charles Leo

Services Held for Korea Veteran
The body of Cpl. Charles Leo Childress, 21, arrived in Central City at 4 p.m., Tuesday and was taken to the Anderson Funeral Home to await burial.

Cpl. Childress was killed May 22, 1951.

Funeral service was held at 2 p.m., Wednesday at the Nelson Creek Baptist Church with the Rev. John L. Parker officiating. Burial was in the veteran section of Rose Hill Memorial Cemetery.

He is survived by his parents, Mr. and Mrs. Judge Childress; one brother, Ronnie Glenn Childress; three sisters, Mrs. Paula Fay Henderson, Misses Nell Ray Childress and Jannice Childress, all of Central City; grandparents, Mr. and Mrs. Buck Childress of Paradise, and Mr. and Mrs. Bob Carr, Central City.

Nofsinger, Mendle

Central City - Mendle Nofsinger, 61, of Central City, died Sunday, November 6, 1994 at 11:50 p.m. at his residence.

Mr. Nofsinger was born in Muhlenberg County on October 21, 1933. He was a member of the First Baptist Church in Central City. He was a veteran of the Korean War.

Survivors include a sister, Carolyn Haack of Spring Lake, Michigan; a half-sister, Bernice McCandless of Greenville; and a half-brother, Oscar Nofsinger or Arizona.

Graveside services were held Friday, November 11 at Fairmount Cemetery with Dr. Carson Bevil officiating. Burial followed the ceremony.

Nofsinger, Wallace D.

Central City - Mr. Wallace Delmar Nofsinger, 62, of Central City, died Sunday, July 21, 1991 at his residence in Central City.

He was born in Muhlenberg County July 20, 1929, and was a member of the Martwick Baptist Church. He was a retired electrician and was a veteran of the Korean War.

He is survived by his wife, Ramona Sue Nofsinger, Central City; two daughters, Gayle Brothers and Karen Benson, both of Central City; four grandchildren; two brothers, Hethel Nofsinger, Phoenix, Arizona; Mindel Nofsinger, Central City; two sisters, Carolyn Haack, Spring Lake, Michigan and Brenice McCandless, Greenville.

Funeral services were conducted Wednesday, July 24 at Tucker Funeral Home in Central City with the Rev. Wilson Lofland officiating. Burial was in Rose Hill Cemetery.

Shelton, Paul E.

Cpl. Paul Shelton, USAF, Dies in Puerto Rico
Mr. and Mrs. Edgar Shelton, Greenville, colored, have been notified by the War Department of the death of their son, Cpl. Paul Shelton, U.S. Air Force. The body is being returned to the United States from Puerto Rico where he was stationed. Arrangements for burial are pending the arrival of his remains. The community shares with his family in their loss.

Funeral Services Held for Cpl. Paul Shelton
Funeral Services for Cpl. Paul E. Shelton, son of Mr. and Mrs. Edgar Shelton, Greenville, were held Sunday afternoon at Wesley Chapel A.M.E. Zion Church at 2 p.m. with the Rev. Horace E. Brown officiating. Burial was in West End Cemetery.

Cpl. Shelton died February 7 while stationed in Puerto Rico. His body was returned to Greenville by an honor guard.

Surviving are his parents; one brother, Irvin Shelton; three sisters, Dorothy Shelton, Brooklyn, NY, Cordie Shelton and Helen Shelton, both of Greenville; and his grandmother, Mrs. Cordelia Ferguson.

Pallbearers were Veterans C.J. Vaught, Payton Robinson, John A. Robinson, Will H. Reynolds Jr., Phil Hurt, Hugh Gregory, James Vaught and Jack Hagoe.
