Oldham County Wedding Announcements

 

This is a limited listing of some wedding announcements and Issued Licenses copied from the local Oldham Era microfilm at the Oldham County Library in LaGrange.   They were obtained randomly by Nate Elliott as he was doing research for his clients.   He's donated these to the Oldham site for those who may benefit from them.  If you have others you would like to add, please email your coordinator .

Wedding Announcements

September 19, 1912

Mr. Charles Bennett and Miss Lillian Brownfield were quietly married in Louisville , Aug. 7th, leaving shortly after the ceremony for New York and other Eastern points.  They returned to LaGrange recently to visit his mother, Mrs. Sue Bennett, and other relatives.  They will go to Louisville in a few days to make their future home.

September 19, 1912

Miss Ella Whiteside and Mr. Leonard Roberts were united in marriage at Louisville , Wednesday, Sept. 11, at 4:30 p.m. , the ceremony being performed by Rev. A.G. Alderman at his home.  It was a surprise to their friends here as the wedding had not been announced.  Miss Florence Whiteside, sister of the bride, and M. Kolhnlein accompanied them to Louisville .  Mr. and Mrs. Roberts will make their home near LaGrange.  The Era extends congratulation and best wishes to the happy couple.

September 26, 1912

Mr. Harry Fellows, of near Skylight, and Miss Wilhelmiena Lichti, of near Buckner, were united in marriage in LaGrange, Saturday, September 21, the ceremony being performed by Rev. George Froh at his residence.  It was a surprise to their friends, as the wedding had not been announced.  The bride’s parents accompanied them to LaGrange.  Mr. Fellows is a highly respected and well known young man, son of Mr. and Mrs. William Fellows.  Miss Lichti is a well known and well liked young lady, daughter of Mr. and Mrs. Fred Lichti, a prominent farmer near Buckner.  Mr. and Mrs. Fellows will go to housekeeping near LaGrange.

January 16, 1913

Tuesday at high noon in St. Paul ’s Episcopal church Miss Mary Edwards Berry and Mr. W. Irving LaRue were married.  The Right Rev. Charles Woodcock, bishop of the diocese of Kentucky officiating.

The church was beautifully decorated with southern ?milax and Christmas greens.  On the alter were bride’s roses and many candles lent their subdued light to beautify the scene.  The ushers were Messrs.  Moss Johnson, Edwin Beverly and Sam Stone, of Louisville .  Miss Fanny Brent Berry, sister of the bride, presided at the organ, and as the strains of the wedding march from Lohengrin filled the church the bride entered on the arm of her father.  She wore a strictly tailored suit of dark blue, with hat to match, and carried American Beauty roses.

They were met at the steps of the chance? by the groom with his best man,  Mr. Chester LaRue of Owensboro and advanced to ? after rail, where the bishop stood, and in a most impressive manner read the beautiful marriage service –Henderson Gleane?.

Miss Berry is a daughter of Mr. Gibson Taylor Berry, formerly of this place.

January 5, 1917

Mr. Claude Carrico, of Crestwood surprised his many friends by being quietly married to Miss Daisy Gentry, of Mt. Washington , Bullitt County , Saturday, December 23.  The marriage was at the residence of his brother, Mr. Edward Carrico, E. Grey Street , by the Rev. H. C. Winters, and was a quiet affair with only a few relatives and friends present.  The bride was beautifully attired in a traveling suite of blue and carried bride’s roses while the groom wore the usual suit of black.  The bridesmaid, Miss Mary E. Head, wore a beautiful suit of blue silk and carried lilies of the valley, while the best man, Mr. Johnny Pounds, wore the usual suite of black.  The wedding was followed by a reception at the home of Mr. and Mrs. Carrico.

October 12, 1917

Soldier Boy Marries While On Leave

Mr. Jesse Johnson, who recently went to Camp Taylor from his home near Sligo , was last week given permission to leave camp for a few days and while on his vacation took unto himself a wife.  He came to LaGrange last Saturday afternoon with Miss Vada Bell, and they were married at the courthouse by Dr. Cassady.  They were accompanied by Mr. and Mrs. Ed Anderson, sister and brother-in-law of the bride.

March 23, 1934

Friends have received word that Mrs. Mary Woolfolk Hoffman of Anchorage , Ky. , and Mr. Lilberne Magruder of Miami , Fla. , were married in the parlors of a Presbyterian Church in Miami on March 12 in the presence of a few friends.

The bride is a daughter of the late R.J. Woolfolk and Louisa Crutchfield Woolfolk of Goshen and is well known in the County for her personal charm and lovely voice.  For several years she has been a matron at the Presbyterian Orphanage at Anchorage .  Her frequent visits to her cousin, Mrs. Julia C. Snowden, made her welcome adjunct to LaGrange groups.

The bridegroom is of the Magruder family, who formerly owned the W.B. Belknap farm at Goshen , a son of the late Warren and Sallie Duerson Magruder.  Mr. Magruder has been in Florida for a number of years and is in the wholesale fruit and vegetable business.  They will make their home in Miami .

March 6, 1936

David Wark Griffith, motion picture producer of international fame, and native of Oldham County , was married at eight o’clock Monday night at the Brown Hotel in Louisville to Miss Evelyn Marjorie Baldwin, daughter of Mrs. Sarah Baldwin of New York City .

March 27, 1942

Miss Mary Ellen Stoess, daughter of Mr. and Mrs. R.W. Stoess, and Mr. Adolph W. Wittwer, Jr., son of Mr. and Mrs. A.W. Wittwer, all of Crestwood, were married Tuesday night at 8:30 o’clock at the parsonage of the Crestwood Baptist Church , the Rev. W.A. Brooks being the officiating minister.  The attendants were Mrs. Charles O Webb and Robert Stoess, Jr., sister and brother of the bride…

County Clerk Head issued last Saturday a marriage license to Walter McDaniel and Mrs. Effa Lee Robinson, both of Louisville.  McDaniel is 42 years old and his bride is 49.

Elmer Wallace, 20 and Anna Yates, 21, both of Jefferson County, obtained a marriage license here last Saturday and were married by Rev. A. B. Morgan.

County Clerk Allan issued a marriage license on Wednesday to William Martin Abbott and Virgie Lee Perkinson.

 

 

 

 

March 20, 1936

Milton R. Peetz and Ethel Cowell, both of Ripley County, Ind., secured a marriage license on Tuesday from County Clerk Head.  Peetz is 23 years old and his bride is 20.

Estill North of Shelby County and Mary Elizabeth Thompson of Anderson County secured a marriage license here Saturday.  North is 24 years old and his bride is 22.

Walter F. Miller of this county and Florence Rupp of Jefferson County, secured a marriage license here Friday and were married by the Rev. Edwin N. Rock of the Presbyterian Church on Saturday.  Miller is 31 years old and his bride is 28.
